Thanks for all of the time and effort you put into this video! It was clearly a labor of love. I have found all of your Betterpress videos to be really helpful. I’m looking forward to your coloring video. I need to point out one thing though. Per the Spellbinders Betterpress FAQs, Betterpress ink is an OIL-based dye ink, not water-based. It’s why they recommend that you use watercolor products to color, rather than alcohol markers.

Thanks for all the work you did. I have to say i love using Delicata ink with my Betterpress, especially on black watercolor paper and so far i found Hero Arts to be my favorite, though you have to be very careful with tge tape. I also found Altenew Fresh Dye inks work great on the Spellbinders papers.

I’ve been getting very good results with dye based inks. For me the difference is so minimal compared to the BetterPress ink that it doesn’t justify the messy clean up.

I think that you will get better results if you clean the die with water after you clean it with the "ink cleaner". I found out that there is a type of oily-type feel after I use the
Archival cleaner. Thank you for demo.
Oh! Thanks for the tip! I did that at the end after putting everything away so there aren't any chemicals sitting on the die plate, but didn't think to do it in between testing. Thank you for the tip!! I'll try that in my Part 2 -- I just found more inks I need to test. LOL 💗

If you're going to try a brayer, would you consider trying acrylic paints?? Just a thought??
I use the Letterpress inks if I want to watercolor and use the HERO ARTS INTEN-IFIED Black if I want to use my Copics....Works well for me!

Liked seeing all the different inks. I think some of the feathering is caused by the cleaner not being completely dry.
Thanks so much! 💗 I think you're right about the feather. Though some of it happens on a completely dry plate too.
The Ranger cleaner is not needed for cleaning dye inks as they are water based so water will clean them. Archival cleaner is formulated to clean archival ink as it’s a permanent ink so water won’t clean it. You can save money by using water for dye 😉 Thank you for taking the time to test all of the inks. It’s interesting to see how much difference there is in black! The Spellbinders black ink was so dark and crisp
Thanks, Tracy, for watching and commenting! Firstly, my apologies if my reply is not in the right context of your comment... However, Spellbinders does recommend the archival ink cleaner. You are right for most dye inks that's not necessary. However the BetterPress inks are a dye, solvent based ink. Most dye inks are water based and thus don't require an archival ink cleaner. But I think the fact that these are solvent based and are a permanent, waterproof ink they do require the archival ink cleaner.

They are pretty nice. Coordinates beautifully with the papers. I wish they made more colors. :)

Thank you for watching! I use cranes letra 100% cotton card. I get it on Amazon. There's a link to it in the description box. But there's two types one is Pearl (a little off white) and the other is Florescent white (bright white). They are both very affordable

Hi. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the BetterPress system. I was wondering if the usage of larger ink pads could possibly cause some feathering with the really intricate letterpress plates. With my larger sized ink pads, I use a soft rubber brayer and noticed that I’ve gotten clear crisp designs without feathering. Just wondering.
Hi Marylin! Thank you for the tip! I am going to try a brayer and see if that helps. I really wanted the VersaFine to work. LOL. 🤣 The Delicata ink pads were large size and those seemed OK, but I'm guessing each type of ink / ink pad might be a bit different. But a brayer sounds like a great solution. I will give it a go!

Is it possible that the cleaner did not get totally removed. You might try the spellbinder ink again after cleaning the plate and see if you still get the same results.

Can you stamp with better press?
Without running it through a die cutting machine? I think it would work to put a piece a cardstock on the plate and then roll over it with a brayer to get even pressure. I haven't tried it tho

I think your blurring is a cleaning issue. I have done the same thing as you and haven’t had any blurring. I also use a soft bristle tooth brush to clean between pressing. OR you are too heavy handed with your ink.
Thanks for the tips, Joyce! Do you just brush the press plate with dry toothbrush to clean it is it moistened?
@@LVHandcrafted I use Recollections stamp cleaner on a microfibre cloth, wipe it down a couple of times and then the toothbrush picks up the moisture and moves the rest of the ink to the surface to wipe off. I rinse the toothbrush each time in a mixture of the Recollections stamp cleaner and water, then dry on a clean microfibre cloth. I’m sure it will rot the bristles over time but I bought 12 for 2 bucks at the dollar store, until Sizzix comes out with a solution :P. The blur might also be the paper you are using. Even 100% card stock between manufacturers is different. Have a great evening.
