Her home port was Toronto and she sailed the Great Lakes hauling grain and iron ore for Upper Lakes Shipping from 1979 until she was scrapped in 2010. She was originally built in England in 1963 though.
Back in the day,and I was on vacation in Sault Ste.Marie,Michigan. I remember seeing the Canadian Prospector and I was at Soo Locks. I also took a picture of the Canadian Prospector. And to this very day and I still have the picture of the Canadian Prospector. I took the picture in 1995 when she was sailing for Upper Lakes Shipping Limited.
Cry all you want about Canadians but it was a Canadian built forbody that barely had a dent after a 10 knot impact into the other vessel. Also the captain was likely one of the Indians from the ship breakers at Alang India where this footage took place, not a Canadian. And finally Canadian mariners are some of the best in the world who Transit the locks and rivers of the seaway as well as the rivers in between the Great Lakes..... some of the toughest navigating on the planet. Go troll a Bieber video And for those who don't know a forebody is a new bow and hull attached to a prior vessels aft machinery and accommodations space.
On closer examination the lead tug appears to have been attempting to pull the bow to our right and perhaps the line parted. The beached hulk on the left amazingly did not move much at all when struck.
Oops! I guess I didn’t turn sharp enough. The sun was in my eyes. Lol 😂 It’s sad to see this but the old girls did served their time. Veterans of the water.
When ships from the great lakes are sent over seas for scrapping, they are towed and no one is on board. So the combination of the wind and only one tug on the stern was the main reason for this collision, that is, if it wasn't on purpose.
Well they made a right pigs ear of that. Obviously only got a bus ticket. More interested in the one next door. Looks like one of the ex TOR Line Fraemness class Ro Ro's. Sailed on a number of them. Best sea ships ever sailed on.
If people are wondering about the collision, this is done to move up the broken ship closer to the beach (the front loaderwill drag the rest of it up). The second boat will begin dismantling top down eventually it will be bumped into once its down enough
don't know why they dismantle ships compleatley..surely hollowed out sea wearthy hulls can be reporposeded as barges and other thins that float on water... like more cost effective solutions such as floating power stations..
back in the days when it was the MV Carlton we had our fare share of bumping into things --like other ships & docks .I was a engineer on the ship & I even managed to drop a exhaust V/V into the cylinder @76rpm -stopped the engine dead ,it bent the v/v stem 90 degrees as I was told later they flogged it to a restaurateur or café owner in Aussie for a table mount one that could not be picked up & thrown easily, that was back in the early 1970s. Huge waste of kinetic energy to crash onto that other ship. It would have been more useful to slide a good way onto the beach. Now the rear-end of the ship is still in 10+ meters deep water. So any metal that falls into the ocean while breaking it, won't be retrievable.
No big deal; they come in at high tide, with ballast tanks empty (see bow thruster out of the water). These ship breaking beaches are very shallow a long way out, as well.
"Do you know how to steer a ship?"
"Of course I do! Watch this! Hold my beer!"

Was this an Algoma ship? The colors look like one of theirs.
@@epistte Never sailed for Algoma. She sailed for Upper lakes shipping, a company bought by Algoma in 2012
Hey! You scratched my anchor!

This yard looks like an operating room compared to the yards in Bangladesh
this ship is in tip top condition, just a few coats of paint and she's good :)
The Prospector was my first ship as a cadet. Kinda sad to see her go, but all things come to an end.
quedorf my 1st ship too... ah well that's business...
+quedorf Funny that. I was on her last voyage.
“Anybody know how to drive one of these things?”
Ans.”Soitenly” nyuk, nyuk.
I think they were supposed to hit the smoke flare. No power on the ship, no steering except tugs.

This is not in Alang! Alang has a beach, where they ground the vessel to be dismantled. I think Öge Gemi Söküm' shipyard is in Turkey...
Canuks vs Indians, not a dimes worth of difference.
I;ve steered 730 footers up and down the St. Lawrence Seaway.. And yes, the channels can be very treacherous..
thats one ugly boat.
Do they try to salvage the engines on them? Like get them rebuilt or are they generally shot I spose
I was on it several times to offload iron ore or coal when docked at Dofasco in Hamilton, Ontario.
I also sailed for ULS in the 70's, Cape Breton Miner, Ontario Power, Montrealais, James Norris
My brother worked on her as a engineer
Sad ending to ageat ship.. Worked on it many times
Being a self-unloader might have helped keep it competitive .
I suspect no one was steering and the direction was provided by the tugs, who failed.
Or intentional to drive the other hulk further ashore.
5:25 , there is a big smile on that Canadian ship . Once we get rid of Harper who should be jailed .
How about seeing the Groper go to jail. He has certainly been a trainwreck

SORRY!!! You said AIM for the smoke. I thought you said GO for a smoke. My bad. ;)
Should title it ship beaching:) awesome though
Another captain stuffs up a beaching , running into the next vessel , with hallo , 2 tugs.
Well it went and prospected Canada and all it found was hockey and Molson’s so they cut it up.
I see that same shit going on in parking lots all across North America! Then it's the classic comeback, "Don't worry that will buff out".
Don't scratch the paint!
hi,
may i know the place of ship breaking ?
think its somewhere in turkey. i may be wrong though.
Maybe, anyone know ship breaking in westindies ?
Thanks
Well if that other ship what was started to be broken up was not properly beached it is now with that other ship running into its stern lol
Oops! I guess I didn’t turn sharp enough. The sun was in my eyes. Lol 😂 It’s sad to see this but the old girls did served their time. Veterans of the water.
sad to see another lake freighter in the dust.
Another one of Port Weller’s finest conversions
they drag the ships up onto the beach as they cut them up
Remember her when she was the Carlton in the early 70's.British owned then.36 years of service not to bad.
+belhudson71 My father-in-law was on that ship when it was the Carlton in the early 70s with Chapman and Willan
+belhudson71 My father in laws was on the Carlton when it was with Chapman and Willen
+belhudson71 My father in law was on the Carlton for Chapman and Willen
+belhudson71 were you on the ship in the 70s????
Whoops! didn't see that
Sad end saw this ship many many times by our cottage in marine city
Were Ships Die and get reborn!
Guy had ONE job, smh.
Go Back And Try Again Lol :)
JESUS!! I've seen my share of lame ship handlers, but whomever is running this ship has his head way up his rectal cavity.

Hilarious.
Buy new girlfriend was driving that thing when she was on her cell phone
well if a canadian is at the helm, i can see why this ship is no good any more.
Go back to trolling school...............
I think my ex-wife was driving that thing while talking on her cell phone
you here the beach crew laughing!
you missed..NOW BACK IT UP AND DO IT RIGHT!
2:14 that laugh lol
Looks like Ship was too light to respond to rudder command
Well they made a right pigs ear of that. Obviously only got a bus ticket. More interested in the one next door. Looks like one of the ex TOR Line Fraemness class Ro Ro's. Sailed on a number of them. Best sea ships ever sailed on.

like a glove
mgtowfish73 YAA LIKE I WOULD LET THEM PARK MY CAR !!!
SpongeBob you fail again.
loved the crash
Reminds me of this one chick at the seaside except I don't think she was Canadian.
are they trying to pull that fucking thing with the dozer at the end?
my brother worked on this very ship back in the 1980s , sad to see her go .
Now who is going to pay for the repairs?
I've seen grammas drive better than this.
That was intentional, to push the other hulk farther up the beach.
Was an accident report written?
За милю видно было, что не попадёт и ничего не делали или специально нужно было соседа подтолкнуть
don't know why they dismantle ships compleatley..surely hollowed out sea wearthy hulls can be reporposeded as barges and other thins that float on water... like more cost effective solutions such as floating power stations..
Oops
Surprised they don't have some type of cable saw like they used on the Kursk.
Na India tem um desmanche de Navios
Sucatas..🚢🍸🍺..
Brasil..
Please call me when it docks. What a waste of time to watch.
Whudda ya mean I’m drunk?
Cool! New hacksaw blades for all, get to work!
How long does it take to cut up the ship ?
Yeah I got it!! Right here???
Roerborg

Wow John!
I would have liked to seen that valve.
Can you bend one for me?

but it pushes the other ship up more onto the shore. There's a method to their madness.
Ship had be beached being towed by tugs, there only going to get so close then release their lines after that its gonna go where it wants to.

Thanks for your informative input :-)
They hit the other ship on accident. That one was supposed to hit the beach. Take a look the guys down there waving their arms LOL
No big deal; they come in at high tide, with ballast tanks empty (see bow thruster out of the water). These ship breaking beaches are very shallow a long way out, as well.
Was the crash on the other ship done on purpose?
Yes, doing that brings the ship there cutting up on to the beach so they can finish it
They all have local pilots aboard, so he must be blind.
