In Gangster Project, a white filmmaker goes on a journey to film and document the lives of real street gangs and their drug dens within the Cape Flats area. Accompanied by his cameraman, he embarks on a quest to uncover a compelling story for his film. After an extensive search, he stumbles upon a notorious gang and dives deep into their everyday existence. What initially appears to be a lighthearted cinematic venture quickly takes a darker turn, as the brutal realities of life in Cape Flats streets confront his assumptions, blurring the boundaries between documentary filmmaking and Danger. This film project transforms into a gripping and unsettling exploration of the complexities of gang culture.
This documentary is based on a true story and the events captured are from a real life experience.

You the South African Slim Shady no fear❤....
Thanks, I'm just trying to bring awareness to the communities and people of the Cape Flats.
Imagine asking who’s gonna die 1st and imagine getting a answer to that question. What a sad life they live.
sad but true hey, the life in the Cape Flats
That was dope bro. Good job
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it
i used to walk those streets... bontas, lentegeur, Eastridge, tafelsig, and more...but it wasn't that dangerous back then. We walked everywhere and hardly encountered life-threatening moments. Things just turned horrible overnight when guns and drugs became prevalent in the ghetto. I feel sad seeing how these brothers are trapped in that endless cycle.
Yes I heard a few older people saying the same thing, back then it was much safer and you could walk outside and play how you wanted. Its sad how times have changed and how this cycle continues within these communities.

22:10 That joke got me, yeer i couldn't breathe 😂
That joke literally made my heart beat so fast when i first saw it😂
God protect our kids🙏 these gangs wont think twice about hurting an innocent being.
Another documentary with a hidden agenda..why didn't these journalist go to Khayelitsha where mass shootings everyday...why do they make sure to skip every African township??
So True they had a choice and chose that path. Thanks for watching

What year was this shot looks old
I grew up in bonteheuwel. In the 80's and early 90's there used to be a group made up of community members called pagad. Everything used to be under control until the new government banned pagad.
Yes i believe most community members knew the Pagad group.
new government banned Pagad ?, did Pagad exist during apartheid ?
@@patama6694-t5b Yes Pagad was formed in 1996 and apartheid only ended somewhere between 1990 - 1994
@@ZAMedia_Entertainment Apartheid in South Africa ended in 1994, and you say YES Pagad existed during apartheid because it was formed in 1996 ??
@@patama6694-t5b They existed yes but a minor group was formed before spreading out and becoming more. I don't know too much about their background but some of them are living within our communities but choose to remain anonymous that's why they always wear face masks or hide their identity.

victims of systemic violence perpetuated by spatial apartheid.
So true, well said🖊
Why don't the communities stand together and stop this violence? Think of the children; do you want children to grow up with violence; drugs; prostitution; guns; etc? Vote DA so that the corrupt police force can be removed from the Anc mafia organisation; it's just sad😢😢😢😢I don't know this lifestyle; have never seen drugs; have no interest; get your morals; dignity; values and culture back; put on the armour of God❤
is that Nafiz Modack??😳 15:29
😳😳😳.. Bro You definitely onto something here.. It looks just like him when he was a bit younger and his known for being one of Cape Town's underworld kingpins and tied to gangs. Never saw it that way until you mentioned it😳

@@ZAMedia_Entertainment How come?
I wish I was staying near a Neighbour Hood like that, I was going to start a small program to keep these kids and future young generation out of gangs etc.
Start a soccer club, boxing or something positive, hike in nature, teach them chess, get them into games, maybe open up a small gaming centre, open up a free learning centre on how the brain works, memory, on meta learning that is the science of learning how to learn, which the brain Coach Jim Kwik teaches...
Lol but I am one man lol with all these ideas....
My parents and the people I personally know, aren't interested in these things.
But keep up your great work❤...
It`s really inspiring to hear that you want to help the youth and steer them away from gangs and negative influences.
Neighborhoods struggling with gangs and drug dens often need dedicated individuals like you who want to make a positive difference.
you will get unalived just for thinking positively bro
@@sipelelesopitshi6753 Thats deep but hey its true you think you do something positive then you end up 6 feet under or become a target
Those guys that he was pointing saying they going to die actually died and some of the others the too
Truth be told
This is so sad. I was intending to ask how many ( and which ) of these brothers actually died or are in prison... this is soo sad. Steve Biko wrote in the 1970s that "Township life alone makes it a miracle for anyone to live up to adulthood." Sadly we this is happening post 1994.. we need systemic and systematic interventions to change this situation and even African townships are just like that.. like Steve Biko said it " we are on our own ".. it is going to take communities to change this situation.
Elite Squad 2007 Movie. That's how you deal with the problems
I dunno, my people dont have to live this way , it seriously pisses me off. 30 years later ?
Nah man.
This is just a glimpse. But that's true mahn nothing has changed
What happen to Thurston, did he shot dead?
I swear i rememeber you sitting by the fire with the guys. You were influenced to smoke ganja pipe and threw up. 😅
This statement is true i can confirm. Thanks for the reminder.
Guys is Thurston still alive😭
Yes he is still alive.
Hard men in groups😄
can't argue with that statement🙃
his dream is to become a nun
😂🙃These guys don't take much seriously.
So I'm a few minutes in and to the filmmaker, you haven't protected this man as he requested. You could have blurred the face and voice. Why? Lack of safeguarding. I'm off
Thanks for your concerns, there was a contract made during the filming of this documentary.
When was this recorded
About 2 years back the official movie has been released
It was recorded around 2010
Die kak is al boring gangsterism is getting boring
True but many innocent lives are being lost because of gangsterism and we are here to make our community aware and not hide the reality of life on the Cape Flats.
Spoiler alert, the filmmaker takes over from Jakals as the new gang leader
15:33 that must be Nafiz Modack
So i found out his real name is actually Nasheed, but its very close to Nafiz so it still makes me wonder if that was him during his younger days on the streets..

No way right?, because i heard of a similar incident that happened in Eastridge, but could be a different case.
Its not the full one
Yeah the full one is almost an hour long.
This is nothing compared to the US and Mexico and El Salvador
True, but we cant compare Cape Flats gangs to US and Mexico Cartels. That's 2 different worlds
Brasil.. definitely takes the cake. Their favelas are ACTIVE.
@@LouisLopez-v9n This is only one small side of South Africa based in Cape Town suburbs. There are more dangerous provinces such as Johannesburg, Durban and KZN. This is just the tip of the ice berg
Cape flats have a higher crime and murder rate than anywhere in the USA
Are you suggesting the the US is more dangerous than South Africa? If so that’s got to be one of the most ignorant statements ever on UA-cam comment section history.
South Africa average 52 murders per day with a population of 64 million people.
America average 47 murders per day with a population of 331 million.
Even with raw numbers America doesn’t beat South Africa. Now break it down to pre capita and South Africa makes America look like Disneyland.
7o and 80 you could walk all over day or night no such thing like shooting there were too many soccer and netball clubs in all the townships Saturdays Sundays was sports weekends or concerts some people go to parties but no gangsters fighting school was a pleasure to attend with clever pupils and good sport men and woman the old days wasn't all that bad those were good old days safer then now
True its sad to see how times have changed, during this period so many youngsters are dying because of this violence and most of them are innocent indivuals
I grew up in Bonteheuwel. Gangs also tried to recruit me like most of my friends. These are pussy men. My parents made life for us. The community is everything without these monsters.
