      @@josephchim9584 almost every pitcher will have shoulder problem just like almost every soccer player tends to have sooner or later knee acl problem or tennis player shoulder or wrist problem. Quaterbacks too. It comes withbthe sport. What he's recommending is to not bulk up too much and to develop arm streght before developing speed. This is true for tennis players and quaterbacks too.
      Look at tom brady he works out as mucb as he streches and he is a 42 yeard old QB.
      Look at nadal in tennis. Probably the most swole player im the tour but also having surgeries left and right.

      Pedro was a great pitcher, but once again, when ex-players want to give mechanics lessons they say what is theoretically correct but in no case what they did. In case of Pedro, he would throw with a poor mechanic for his elbow, look for images of Pedro and they will see that his elbow is in the same position as Tom Koehler. Council boys, an image speaks more than a thousand words, do not do what they say, do what they did.

      I think you're thinking of arm slot. Because you dont throw a curveball or slider in the same arm slot as a fastball obviously.
      But Pedro's mechanics for his size were completely efficient. He used as much legs and torso as anyone. Look at how big his follow through were when he really clocked it with a fastball. He would spin damn near all the way to first base.

    • @tylervolentine1286
      @tylervolentine1286 6 років тому +6

      I'm pretty sure his arm slot is the same on his curve/slider - its called tunneling of the pitch. It is slightly different yes due to the arm not extending fully on breaking pitches but its not something you should be conscious of. I've seen pitchers with great stuff get lit up because they cannot tunnel their pitches effectively.

    I was clocked at 80mph when I was 14. I had very little guidance growing up and a lot of time playing around with friends. 14 was when I developed persistent rotator cuff issues. I continued to play through high school, but my shoulder never healed, and I kept getting pushed lower on the team. Every throw felt like getting stabbed in the back of my shoulder, but I loved the game that I just dealt with the immense pain.
    A couple years ago, when I was 29, I picked up a game of catch with someone at a party, and my god was the ball zipping out of my hand with minimal effort. I haven't played before or since. It makes me sad to think what could have happened if I took care of my arm when I was young.

    This is so important for young kids to see. If you're coaching kids show your pitchers this. It's the worst thing in the world to see a 20 year old with those elbow scars because everyone who coached him emphasized power over safety

    Landing 45 degree depends on your tibial rotation flexibility though.
    Notice how the foot is 45 degree but the shin/kneecap is still facing homeplate. Its because your shin can twist a bit left/right.
    But really in my opinion, the direction of the pelvis should be the focus. Some pitchers look like theyre flying open because of the look of their lead leg but their pelvis and torso still remains closed(which is good).

    • @aljon5947
      @aljon5947 3 місяці тому

      @@cy4208 open = facing towards homeplate, closed = facing sideways
      flying open means rotating the torso too early, like rotating your torso even if your pelvis hasnt significantly rotated towards homeplate yet. it means you are not fully utilizing your legs to pitch.
      so if somebody is throwing fast even though theyre flying open, then it means they arent very efficient and might be doing something dangerous to get to that throwing speed.
      the opposite of flying open is staying closed which makes you more explosive and helps you ensure that you rotate your hips first before your torso. however it takes some strength to hold a closed position and rotate from it, so its important to develop lower half strength.
      landing the foot 45 degrees closed is a cue/habit taught mostly to younger pitchers. sometimes the lead leg guides the pitcher’s body so keeping it sideways will help with staying closed. sometimes its the glove arm that can make you fly open, so another cue they use is to keep the glove internally rotated to keep it from pulling back early.

    I don't agree with Pedro on the whole "foot landing 45 degrees" thing. If you check out any great pitcher's mechanics, including Pedro's, they all land with that foot in line with the plate. But as Pedro said it is definitely bad to fly open or stay too closed. Flying open = arm strain and staying too closed = less hip and arm ROM and possible knee problems. Good video to learn from, he was truly a great pitcher.
