Wranglerstar, I just wanted to share with you my recent lottery win. I was going through my freecycle email when a woman posted that she wanted to get rid of all her screws, bolts, nails, nuts, springs and washers. Her stipulation of course was "you must take it all". Mind you it's not all grade 5 or grade 8 stuff, but I felt like I had just won the lottery! I am looking forward to garage sale season and looking for buckets of fasteners that people are just begging to get rid of. Love the forestry fire fighting equipment find. It's not necessary where I live, but that doesn't mean I don't think about firefighting preparedness. Keep up the good work!
Where I work we use bowers that have sight gauges you want to install. They are a constant source of trouble as the tubes get old, crack and start to leak. My I recommend putting in a simple valve in front (both ends) of the sight tube, just in case.
Sweet!!! OLFD in CT was super busy Saturday, structure fire and a bunch of accidents and EMS. All in all 4-5 calls.
Yep. I'm excited, there aren't many videos out there of older fire skid type units. I plan to throw together a 275 gallon skid for the farm after school gets out. Just a suggestion, I would have hookups for one or two lines. Can't wait to see the series and the finished project:)
Cody. As a VFF on Canada's East coast I think it is great. We are just getting into the season.
So, I've been watching your videos for a while, I stumbled upon this one and subscribed. I'm a full time federal firefighter. I love skid units and am currently working on building one of my own. Keep up the good work!
Woo! More of this please! I love how simple you make these kind of projects look. Editing, I know, but still your attitude and enthusiasm DEFINITELY rubs off like you said :) I never thought I would be excited to watch someone restore an old fire skid unit. I live Southern Oregon where fires are a huge concern to the general public. Heck, the summer of 2013 (or 2014?) the entire Rogue Valley was filled with a smokey haze and was miserable from a huge fire in Northern Oregon... Makes me want to fix stuff up, like you do!
I would love to find or make one of those to skid behind my ATV, my property would not allow it on my truck. This drought has me anxious for this summer, last year was brutal here for wild land fire. Good luck on the shirts, I bought 3 shirts and a hoodie for the family today, may god bless and keep up the good works Cody
In my time, Wisconsin engines were notable for their reliability. If you don't feel like doing it yourself, I suggest you send it to a shop, have it rebuilt, and keep it as back-up.
Daniel Smith yes, if not kept as a back-up or future project. Those Wisconsin engines have been reliable, and many people would love to find one!
Yep, I agree. They don't build anything like a Wisconsin any more. Cody said it had a problem with the mag. Many people look at a mag and get scared, but they really aren't that bad. I do agree with Cody that you don't want to be horsing around with old equipment while trying to put out a fire though. I'd want it freshened up before I put it back into service again too.
I'll tell you, the first video I watched of yours was restoring your FSS Pulaski head. I like all your videos, but ones like this with your infectious enthusiasm are definitely the best.
That wisconsin is a great motor,in it's time probably one of the best.they arent hard to bring back to life it's probably just rust on the magneto or the points are stuck. If you take the recoil off, there should be an inspection port where you can check out the points and condenser.Nice find I'm sure you will get some good use out of it.
Yup. I'm excited!!!! Stoked for you +WranglerStar !!
That looks like a nice - well kept unit. It should serve you well there. We use similar smaller units in Bobcat Tool Cats.
Nice find.
You could come out of the lower bulkhead with a tee and build a sight glass. Use reducing bushings and acrylic tubing for the sight. Put a foam fishing bobber inside for an indicator.
Myself enjoying wildland fire stuff, but I also am a pipefitter and enjoy things such as this thank you
I recently purchased a one ton ford with a similar unit, 330 gallons, 11hp, 200 psi, 34 gallons per minute, newer everything.
very excited to see the restoration video's. We are gearing up ourselves out here on the coast. Gonna be an interesting season.
Significant fire season ahead. We had a 1,000 plus acre veg fire in my area this past Saturday evening. Extraordinary fire behavior going on for a mid April fire with just a normal onshore wind. It will be nice to have that little rig set up for your home place.
Very Nice!!! Every one of my Dad's red DNR pickups had one of those in the back through out his career.
Penetrol paint additive is also a outstanding fiberglass reconditioner. That is worth a try on your fiberglass site window.
That's gold in our eyes! Once a firefighter! Always a firefighter
That is going to make watering those trees a WHOLE lot easier!!! Nice swap wranglerstar !!!
In your sight tube, put a little corky or other small fluorescent fish float so you can see your water level from a distance.
Its maybe old but it looks good to me and old usually lasts , and it might safe your way of life someday...loosing a house and home to fire has to be one of the most dramatic events in anyone's life
That would be a class module to own! I'd have no real use for it basically ever though.
It looks like it will clean up very nicely. Hopefully it gets no serious use this year.
I wonder if he still has that Wisconsin powered pump? It would be nice to see it taken a part, repaired and running. Cody could always keep it as a back up as previously stated I know I would of done everything I can to make it run again. And old is not always unreliable.....
New packing in that pump it will be fine for a long time. We still have a truck with the old Wisconsin engine and the same pump On our old brush truck. Thing runs like new. We service our stuff all the time and have no issues
Red Rider7 v p racing fuels sells small engine 4 stroke and pre mixed 2 stroke fuel no ethanol shelf life of 2 years after opened. comes in all different size cans. truck freight delivered to you.
Red Rider7 thanks friend we use to buy aviation fuel at the local air park but after we mixed oil for 2 stroke it was about the same cost and I know the pre mix is closer to 50:1 than my guys can mix themselves I buy it in 55 gallon drums and 5 gallon cans from vp its expensive but saves all the plastic parts in my carbs and tanks.
+Red Rider7 sorry haven't been on in a long time your right about the fuel thing I'm glad we still get none ethanol gas here I'm part of our departments maintenance division right now. I'm building a new used heavy brush truck 1000 gal water tank wish I was aloud to do video but that's a big no no in our district right now.
This is still one of my favorite project series.
water weighs 62.4 lbs per cubic foot of volume. plus the weight of the tank with included accessories
I am in the process of procuring my own skid unit. You did good with this find.
I just applied to our local ENR department to do my EFF training in June. I live in the very far north of Canada, where forest fire cause massive damage, so I figured I'd apply and help out our territory.
I’d like to hear that old Wisconsin run. Could have it ready as a backup pump.
You are absolutely right, it's beautiful!
being in the country of Missouri their are lots of farmers so i have a 150 gal tank but only a low pressure pump, ive been looking for a better one just have not wanted to spend the money for one, it would help my dept, for me to have it for our brush fires
I would be careful with your sight tube idea. One mishap, accidental cut in it, or tree limb rips it off, and you are losing water without knowing it. Neat project!
Thank you for making these videos if been sick all day your videos have made my day better👍👍👍
Cody, you always say to, "spend your money on good boots and a good bed, because if your not in one, your in the other.", to paraphrase. I have bought a pair of White's Smoke Jumpers on your advise, and now I am looking for a bed. I am not sure if you have talked about the bed you prefer in a video already or not, I have not seen one, but If you could let me know, that would be awesome. Thanks for the great videos.
I want one of those and I don't even fight woodland fires. I do live in the in the White Mountain Forest or northern New Hampshire though and you never know if you might have to fight a forest fire.
We use to burn off my dads land 300 acres plus on purpose. A controlled fire. we only had pump up sprayers. LOL It would have been nice to have one of those. My dad was a fireman for 40 years. or longer. Any way I appreciate your new fire fighting equipment.
I'm no firefighter. .....wait yes I am. :) spanner wrench. And that red line looks good.
Hey Cody. That is a cool project. I was surprised to see that you have your own forklift. Cool tools.
Welcome Back!!! Seriously missed your daily videos. ........I am kinda curious if we should start a support group for Wranglerstar addicts.
That Wisconsin engine is a fantastic engine. I would go through it and restore it for something else!
Been a very long time ive watched your videos, you just havent uploaded anything that interested me, but this here is good, thank you very much!
Never would have cared about this kind of thing before this past summer. Spending over a week under level 2 evac notice and expecting to be upgraded to level one at any time, and getting very lucky, changed all that.
Keep the Wisconsin.Just because Honda is new it can fail
Jody Thorpe I agree.
Jody Thorpe Ah no I've rarely seen a Honda fail they are the most reliable small engine on the planet I think the only thing that can cause a Honda engine problems is ethanol gas.
Well they are not bomb proof they do fail but they are good engines I like the older stuff.I'd like to see him mount his old international on it
That looks like one heck of a good find! Fun project to boot!
When I look at it, I see a saved home or lives. It is small but powerful, mobile, and could very well make all the difference. Everything has a purpose, and odds are, you will put it to much better use than the original owner!
I am thinking of building something similar
Our neighbor just had a grass fire today
Managed to get it our before we had to call the fire dept.
He had a few fires last year as well
Stay safe and have fun
Really cool Cody! A true Leader in Resourcefulness
Very Nice find.. will be watching!
The sight "glass" may be a break point. Is there a way you can bring a cap or shutoff? Putting that tank in the truck, or scrambling, might risk creating a bad situation on top of an already bad situation. Regardless, very cool find.
I avidly follow your channel, I have been a professional finishing contractor for the better part of 20 years, and I do a lot of pressure washing. and in lowes or home depot they have this cleaner called greased lightning pro in 5 gallon containers for about $30.00, i pour that into a 2 gallon heavy duty pump sprYer , and spray that over the really bad grimy greasy dirty, mildew stuff, then scrub it with a stiff of soft Bristol scrub brush before I pressure wash certain things, and it works wonders, its by far the best cleaner iand degreaser ive ever used, try it, its worth it.
Honda pumps are fine. The Wisconsin motor and original pump restored would be cool and dependable. Your desire for dependability is understandable.
just an idea: on your water lever line, insert a small float ball that is a bright color so it will be easier to determine your water level from a longer distance.
congratulations on your find i love it when you do this type of projects
You deal with your wildland fires, and we here deal with our tornados. At least you can prevent yours! Godspeed.
Can't wait to see this project complete!
Do you think I could fit one of those in place of the third row seat of my Honda Pilot?
Sam and Nia Perhaps not this tank but I could build you a more suitable skid unit.
Haha I think it would come in handy for diaper blow outs, otherwise I'm not sure what I would use it for.
5 minutes in i start to get excited. keep up the good work brother... now back to the video.
Put a reversing switch on the motor and you could have a power out feed too.
Ahhh I see a smaller setup than the Big Pumper. Now that makes sense. Nice find!
Great video Cody! Id love to have something like this because it would come in handy. I hope you sold that old engine instead of scrapping it. Someone out there loves old engines and would pay a pretty price for it.
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PEOPLE RELAX AND ENJOY THE FREAKIN RE-BUILD!!! Jeez!!
What a cool piece of equipment! never seen one of those before, thanks for sharing
You made this video very interesting. Great job! I love seeing the basics of mechanical things.
Says its dry and theres a drought... Grass is still green haha.
Come to Australia and see what a real drought looks like.
What a cool Unit!!
wauw!! I love it!!!
Yawza, yawza!!! What a nice rig...
That thing is awesome!
I wonder if you could restore the window to make it clear again like you would do to restore headlights... using very fine wet/dry sandpaper and abrasive paste to polish the window.
i love this kind of thing
MAN THIS ROCKS!!!!
You find some cool gear. I'll be looking forward to seeing it restored.
Old isn't necessarily unreliable; old and unmaintained is unreliable.
I love the new tailgate!
sir your sight glass will work fine but is a weak point that could cause you to loose your water if broken. a small led light in the tank will however make it easy to see your water level and you have power right there.
wranglerstar The excitement has rubbed off on me. I was not interested what so ever and a few minutes it all changed. That is cool and I can see so many applications for this besides forest fires.
The treasures of Craigslist.
i love old things
Please restore this thing to original pecs, you have the skills to make it right, looking at that, when you said Honda:( I gasped. I watched pt.2 make it original please, everything else is surprising you !
Ktm on the side of the welder? At 8.45 that's make of a motorbike company that I know of.or do they make welders now.or has wranglerstar into Kim and we don't know lol
can not wait to see end results
Wow. Yes!
Restoring video... Yay!!!!
A great find!!!
Sounds like that forklift needs a date with a grease gun
why is it that i have a feeling you already have a plan for that old pump?
That beautiful piece of machinery reminds me of sweet cherry pie
I'm super interested in this project!!
Yep Ill say it I'm jealous!! I think you made a great trade!
Love your sense of humour! Gives me a morning lift. Yep, old and unreliable, fer sure! I have used several of those fire pumps, once to keep ME from incineration. And I am off to finally join my local Flat Earth Society. Tired of walking up and down hills. Many thoughts to keep me going and happy - thank you, thank you!
There is a possibility to recover the plastic site window by using tooth paste. I use this on plastic lenses on head lights and also on my snowmobile windshield and motorcycle windshield. It is tedious though.......
awesome find....
Awesome. TY!
Looks like a good project. God bless
Cody I'm the other one out here that got real excited about that and I just got myself one today it's got the fedko motor on it but I'm going through the same old thing whole thing love your Channel you seem to have a lot of the same likes keep up the good work
I tend to check ebay motors for Mercedes Unimogs just for kicks, and there will often be retired fire service units (often veteran machines from German fire depts.). Hopefully this link is still active when/if you see it Cody, I can't look at without thinking how much you'd love it. And what a project it would make! www.ebay.com/itm/Mercedes-Benz-Other-Unimog-Military-Fire-Brush-Pumper-Vehicle-/141641684298?forcerrptr=true&hash=item20fa80954a&item=141641684298
yay.. a new restoration project :D
Nice rig! So what did you trade/barter for it?
Is there a Waukesha engine in that lift truck? If so it will run forever.
