I never tried this product and assumed its usability is not compromised by the design. It's a shame it became an iconic symbol of the design world if its functionality is bleeding from so many wounds. Thanks for your clear insights. They helped me decide not to buy the Juicy Salif.
Its a very controversial design its all about whether the aesthetic power can overwhelm its lack of functionality. I think you made the right decision.
You're back! I love your reviews. They are so in depth and truthful.
Thanks very much, I am glad you are enjoying them. It has been a while however I am now starting to upload regularly so please check out my new upload to see if anything takes your fancy! Much love Hands-On :)
Great review! You have seen through the design and actually answered the question: Does it work? Great work guys!
Thanks very much, it is a controversial and divisive design so there is a lot of debate around it. I am glad you enjoyed the review. I will be uploading more regularly now so feel free to check out our other videos, I would appreciate the support. Thanks :)
I have to say that Juicy Salif is a piece of art,but when regarded as a product, it's not that practical.I think it's stiil a masterpiece.
Yes Yes Yes! I couldn't agree more, design should be accessible and art is intentionally not accessible or practical. It is a great sculptural art piece but not design. Thanks for contributing! Feel free to check out our other videos as we have plenty more coming :)
There are many products we regard as masterpieces even when they fail functionally. Starck's Juicy Salif is one such object, as evidenced by the dialogue in the comments and elsewhere. However, the hypocrisy of Starck, as revealed in the video, is especially disappointing when he admonishes another designer for a sculptural concept. He should be conscientious enough to admit that his product is a masterpiece because its form entices users to tangle with it despite its compromises--there is little shame in this achievement.
That chair was also also functional! Unlike the Juicy Salif...
Good points well made, it's a style over function product but has its merits I suppose. Thanks for your contribution. Check out our other videos for similar content. :)
I just bought one for myself for my 30th birthday. After studying it in art class at school it's kind of an extravagant dream come true. I have begun drinking hot water and lemon first thing in the morning, and I think its going to bring (much needed) inspiration to this moment of my day. I won't need a lot of juice each time, don't mind pips and will always be using lemons, so although I won't be going into lemonade production with this product, I hope it will function well for this "ceremony". For that reason, I think it's not fair to conclude that the product is unfunctional. However I haven't tried it yet, so I may be back in a few days to eat my words once it arrives!
hi, in im in the same situation. wanna buy it for ma mom for tomorrows birthday, and i feel like u. So? did it arrived and that?
All products are useful in someway to someone, so I'm glad to hear your enjoying your morning beverage! I sill maintain it isn't very functional but if you are willing to overlook its faults its a very iconic design that sits happily in the kitchen for everyone to see. Saying all this I do own it, although for me its a bit of a sculpture. Thanks for engaging and feel free to check out our other videos, we will have many coming your way in the next few weeks. :)
@@Juan-rs3go Yeah it arrived and it's great! Works a treat. Happy birthday to me! Feels very sturdy and stable to me. It feels very well made and quality. You could do way worse for any gift at £40. And... IT WORKS! And not even just in a aesthetics way. It just works. Transforms a lemon, sliced in half, into lemon juice in a cup - with ease. Very easy to clean too. The "sharp" end is not really sharp. This review had me thinking I was going to puncture my Marigolds haha! If you love the way it looks and idea of the design, and want to squeeze some lemons, I would go for it guys. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
It works fine with lemons and limes, as they are smaller in size.
I bought it on 06/25/2021 on Ebay for US$ 99.95 + shipping of US$ 42.30. Arriving in Brazil, they charged me a 50% surcharge on the piece (U$49.97), totaling R$826.37.
I must agree that function should come over design, However, the juicy salif is nothing short of a masterpiece. I wish I had designed it myself.
It _would_ be a masterpiece if it actually worked. It's already great that the concept and the shape/visuals make imediate sense, so it's just a shame that he never did the minor modifications that would allow it to work.
Early models were so badly designed that the metal would corrode under the influence of the citric acid and poison people. This is unbelievable bad design when it actually becomes dangerous.
What is it made from dude?
It's cast aluminium with a mirrored polish. There were problems with the original version as the citric acid would gradually corrode the surface and contaminate the juice. Not ideal. Thanks for commenting :)
Some defend this product will "it's still a nice design" - but the lack of a filter for pulp and piths makes the design itself a cheat.
Juice a citrus with another juicer with one hand….
Too much for zblock
Not practical
Agreed! Thanks for commenting, please feel free to check out my other videos, I will be uploading regularly! :)
