This being an Ubisoft game, I guess if this is your first Ubisoft game, then you need an Ubisoft account just to play the game, even if you just bought the game. Considering that’s how it was with my experience with Fenyx Immortal Rising, I could try the demo without an Ubisoft account, but when I got the full game, I was unable to play all because they required me to make an Ubisoft account. That’s probably the same here as well, despite what was said about the account. Great review of a game that I had always wanted to play but never got around to it, i’m usually not one to worry too much about frame rates but I’m actually disappointed that the Switch version isn’t 60 FPS but I think that Ubisoft did not put their role into this version in terms of getting it to run at 60 FPS. Cuz we know that Ubisoft is one of the few developers that can get their games to run at 60fps on the Switch but then I realised this isn’t there a team that worked on this Switch port, hopefully the physical version doesn’t cost too much so I will probably wait for that anyway great with you guys as always.
@@SwitchUpYtDitto Metroid Prime remastered vs. original….nothing makes you feel older than seeing comparison videos and realizing the original game that made your jaw drop a few decades ago looks positively ancient nowadays.
Thank you for bringing in the original PC version, I was just thinking to myself "Why would I bother when I have the PC version from all those years ago?" Still might do my upgrade there to try for 4k120, but for those without a PC, this game is absolutely fantastic if you haven't played it yet. I think I've purchased this on Gamecube, PS3, and PC so far ha.

Oh wow cool! Kinda forgot this one was coming. I have a weird nostalgia trip for this game that I didn't even really play all that much. It just felt.. different and I felt like I was too young to really grasp any of the themes. Will be cool to play this one.
Excellent review. Absolutely insane that this got announced mere days after I finally got to it on my massive backlog. Playing the HD version on the XB360 for the first time and currently halfway through it. Surely I can't abandon it and restart on this version... surely? Tell you what though, the effects, overall graphics, and loading times look soooooo much better here, plus I do love me some behind the scenes stuff.
What a pleasant surprise seeing they finally did what I had given up they'd ever do. I LOVE this game. Even bought both the actually good Dutch voice over, and imported the UK version as well on GC. Later the X360 version. And now I'll eventually will DEFINITELY get it again.
Oh my gosh!! I love this game! It was one of the first games I couldn't get enough of back in the day!! I'm so happy I can play it again on Switch. Thank you for the review, you're the best!❤❤❤
Beyond good & evil was one of the few third party games of its generation that was up there in quality with most first party games or exclusives that tried to get the most out of the hardware it was on which was definitely different to many of the time that used to cut many things back to make sure it ran on all hardware without taking too many risks. I think if I am correct it didn't sell so well at the time but because it went on to be such a cult classic it has eventually went on to sell well with other releases but seemingly not well enough for the sequel to ever see the light of day.
I never played this originally, and that price means I'm definitely picking this up. And the 40th anniversary edition so I can refresh my memory before the sequel comes out.
This was my absolute favorite game when i was a kid. I adored the gamestyle and loved the creative way to earn currency. I replayed it on my PC from steam not too long ago. And its still very high up on my favorite list! Its a game i always occationally will think of, and im longing for Beyond good and evil 2 which i've been waiting for since 2010 or whatever.
Great review as always. Gonna have to get it. Now I'm waiting for Sleeping Dog's, Spec Ops: The Line, Shenmue and Superman 64 to make it to Switch. I can dream..... Right?
Sleeping dogs on Switch would be great but I think the CPU is probably a tad too weak to run it effectively. some of the fights you have so many NPCs around you.
Very tempting at the asking price. If it were 60 fps I think that would merit a purchase right away. Never played this one. Think I'll hold out for a patch or sale! Nice work with the quick coverage Mark! Switchup channel best channel
I never got around to playing this one back in the day, so am excited to see it on the Switch! I'm going to grab it - as you say it's a steal at that price - the only thing is I usually don't download games bigger than 4gb to save space and go for physicals instead, but for this I guess I'll have to make an exception.
I remember when I played the original on Gamecube I ran into a game breaking glitch during the final level that caused me to have to replay the game. UA-cam wasn't a thing back then so I could just watch the last 20 minutes, I had to replay the entire game over again just to see the ending. I was happy to do it though because this game is so good!
I was 17 when this came out and remember I was blown away by the story telling and world it was such a FUN game I pulled a few all nighters, I just couldn't put it down. 👍
I saw it so many times in the boxes by the time of the Gamecube.. and at a small price.. but for some (bad bad bad) reaosn, i never took it... Now is the time ... but i will still wait the LRG edition to have it on cartritge. They have done a better job at a smaller price than Nintendo with Luigi's mansion 2 Since January and the their Prince of persia game (and i'm very curious about the rogue lite one) , i'm beginning to love again Ubisoft (but I loved their mario/Lapinscrétins tactical some time ago)
I completely missed the boat with beyond good and evil while growing up but always knew it was a good game. This seems like an excellent time to give the series a go!
Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Literally my favourite game from the GameCube era! I must have 100%-ed that game at least 15 times since I bought it back when it was first released, and the only reason I haven't been able to play it these past few years is that my Wii's disk reader stopped working (and I don't own a GameCube anymore). I knew this version was coming, but so soon?! Now excuse me while I boot my switch up and make a quick purchase. And probably gonna get the physical release too, despite me normally only getting digital releases. Beyond Good and Evil is just up there as one of my favourite games of all time!
One of my favourite games on Gamecube and one I've been hoping would be brought to Switch. What a great surprise! And an insta-buy to add to my healthy backlog! I'm looking forward to playing this, such a great atmosphere and world to explore.
So happy about this remaster! I hope it sells a lot so I can finally get the sequel. With this out of the way, can we now get Freedom Fighters from IO Interactive?
I beat and 100% this game on every console it ever released physically, including the prior HD Release on the Xbox 360. You bet I am back on Hyllis digital now and physically as soon as that version gets released (which is, sadly, only by LRG, adding A LOT of shipping cost for me)
Steam for Steam Deck. Really glad that I got the Oled Steam Deck, good system for the in between time until Switch 2 releases when 3rd party titles on Switch are lacking in performance and visuals.
Everyone who never played this game should get it. It's an awesome action adventure with lovable characters and fun water battles/races. It's a shame that there is no life sign of BGAE 2 since years...
well, this game is supposed to have new bits of story that talk about Jade's past...and also connect it to BGE2. So, maybe they rebooted the project again to make a prequel in the style of this game?
@@Atropos148 I have no idea. Maybe they check with this re-release if anyone chares about Jade's adventures anymore. I think it's one of these games who stucks in some kind of production hell. And modern Ubisoft have no plan how to go on with their beloved IP's... (splinter cell, 3D prince of persia, rayman etc.) It's actuall really sad.
Sounds like they did a really good job with this remaster. The only thing keeping me from grabbing it right now is knowing it's an Ubisoft release and it'll be on sale in no time. What's funny is I actually have the game on the GameCube, but I never actually played it; story of our gaming lives, right? I remember grabbing a copy for super cheap when a local electronics chain here in the states was closing. I didn't have any friends who'd played it, but had heard that the media largely lauded it. I always meant to play it, but yeah, backlog be damned.
OMG, I didn’t even know this was coming to the switch, and a proper remaster like Prime. I absolutely adored this game back in the day, defo gonna purchase the physical. 18 quid, that’s a real bargain. Oh did I hear you say, gyro controls are not really essential. Mark the gyro man
Wow! I missed this game when it originally came out and always wanted to try it, I’m gonna have to snatch this up but maybe in a week or two cause I’m getting Luigi’s mansion 2 this week as I also have not played that
Considering its not a competitive or FPS game, i think 30 frames is more than enough. And generally speaking, visual upgardes only do so much. Is there an actual reason to buy this? Is ubi testing waters for the BGE2 debacle? Did they add some ingame stuff? The gallery does look interesting tho!
I'm actually kind of disappointed with the Switch-version... 30fps WITH drops!?!? Gamecube ran this at 60fps! Sure, also with drops and they have made improvement to the engine, but these improvements were made to the enhanced HD version as well, and they ran at a solid 60fps on PS3/X360. Also, the new lighting engine kind of dismisses the fact that the game had a foggy look, the HD version had the very same issue... To me the original foggy look made Hyllis look more humid. In the remaster it looks very video-gamey, without any sort of environmental weather effect. I might be nostalgic and critical, but I honestly think ubisoft could've done a better job with this. With that being said, it's still a "must play" even at 30fps. :) Awesome game. I'm picking it up for the PC/Steam Deck instead.
I think ultimately the CPUs in those old consoles are probably better than the low-clocked ARM cores in the Switch. Usually performance issues in Switch ports are due to the CPU/memory bandwidth, definitely the very tender Achilles Heel of the Switch.
I just played through the original for the first time on GameCube. I wanted to see why this game is so beloved, and frankly I just don't get it. It's a good game and I enjoyed it, but I didn't find anything great about. It's clearly made for kids and too cartoony to be taken as a serious IP. I keep asking people to explain to me why they love it so much and all I ever get is vague stuff like "that's just your opinion" or "everything is subjective," which provide no explanation. I really think it's just people having nostalgia for a game they played as a kid.
@@benjaminireland7096no it's not. I was already an adult when I played that game on the GameCube, and I've played this game at least 15 times to 100% completion and loved it every time. That game is special, especially if you're a francophone and grew up with French-Belgian Science Fiction comic books. Beyond Good and Evil feels like one of those comic books, and I've never seen a game replicate that feeling so well. Also, as Mark mentioned, the game started many gaming trends that we now take for granted like the fighting system. It may not look special now, but it was definitely special then.
@@benjaminireland7096 For me, and possibly partly for my dad, it was the fact that you didn't just beat the bad guys up, and move on. You were exposing the bad guys, the lies that have been spewed, and that was your greatest weapon. Your camera. Sure, you have to fight at times because damn it's a game, an action-adventure-rpg I'd say? but yeah. It was really intriguing and hey if you didn't like it that much what the heck. But I figured I'd at least give a reason as to why I liked it. (If you really want an in-depth thoughts thing, it'll have to wait till I replay it again since I'm totally getting this on Switch!)
I did play this on my original Xbox and PS2. A friend had it on GameCube. I always thought this was a wonderful game and I am so happy to see its return. I plan on getting it physically… if I can wait that long to play. This may be a physical/digital double dip for me. It’s THAT good!
This looks interesting, however, as a PC owner I’ll be checking this out on a Steam Sale as the Anniversary Edition is in PC as well. Im actually at the point where I’m not investing as much in the Switch as I’m gearing up for a purchase of a Steam Deck Oled, which will play a lot of 3rd party games the Switch does, but better. The only thing that would change my mind on that is if the Switch 2 is announced by November, before any potential BF sales on the SD.

Backlog be damned, I NEED this! Spot on pricing too, that's how it should be done with remasters 😸
Yeah that’s the way to price it! Mark
Beyong good 😂
Is that a typo or an in joke I need to play the game to understand? Great rwview score though.
I only played this game once round a family friends house and really enjoyed the little I played. Definitely picking this up for £18 and also looking forward to Tomba in a few weeks time.
Wish we could got a TimeSplitters collection on the Switch as well 😢
Well I'll be damned. I must've spoken this game into existence because I was just thinking how BG&E would never see a Switch release and here it is! I played this on PS2 back when and it was definitely phenomenal for it's time albeit short. Truly a hidden gem and a must play for the price👍Thank you gents
Excellent review as always. I still have this game on my Xbox. I never finished it.
Probably a lot of bottlenecks in running an older engine on newer hardware. Translation models etc.
The water effects were pretty impressive back then on PS2/Gamecube/Xbox.
They were indeed but man they look way better. Mark
Wow! I have to say I never heard of it, but this looks like you can play some polished gaming history for quiet a nice price here! Great Review!
You should! Cheers mate! Mark
Isn’t it possible to still get the original soundtrack in game? I forget and not enough articles for the 20th Anniversary Edition. I got it and know there is new outfits!
Oh wow!! Didnt know they would fo this!! Hi you two!!
Well. They fid it.
@@GreggyAckand they did it well! Mark
Do you know by any-chance how to get the new clothing for Jade, Pey’J and the Boat? Ive been trying to find guides because there are machines with codes
I'll grab it when it's on sale for $5 in the fall.
I wish to find the same feeling in my age playing that game when i was younger.. and the soundtrack from this game is amaizing..
Oh my gosh!! I love this game! It was one of the first games I couldn't get enough of back in the day!! I'm so happy I can play it again on Switch.
Thank you for the review, you're the best!❤❤❤
It's so good!
LOL 😂
A very under-rated game with a great protagonist. I seriously thought there would be other games with Jade in them
I don't think you can call this game underrated
Always meant to play this, and lo and behold, here's my chance! Cheers lads.
Very tempting at the asking price. If it were 60 fps I think that would merit a purchase right away. Never played this one. Think I'll hold out for a patch or sale! Nice work with the quick coverage Mark! Switchup channel best channel
I was recently thinking about this game, and wondered if it would come to the Switch. Now I know it is!
I never got around to playing this one back in the day, so am excited to see it on the Switch!
I'm going to grab it - as you say it's a steal at that price - the only thing is I usually don't download games bigger than 4gb to save space and go for physicals instead, but for this I guess I'll have to make an exception.
Just caught up on 8 days worth of videos I missed. Well done gents.
What is the resolution in handheld and in dock mode? You didn't explain that at all in the entire video
If you look at your last video, I literally said that I couldnt believe this wasnt on switch with all the relaxing games coming out recently.
4:40 "the PC version of the HD release" - I, and wikipedia, are pretty sure that the HD version never got a PC release.
They have done a better job at a smaller price than Nintendo with Luigi's mansion 2
Since January and the their Prince of persia game (and i'm very curious about the rogue lite one) ,
i'm beginning to love again Ubisoft (but I loved their mario/Lapinscrétins tactical some time ago)
This game is the perfect example of how a good art direction and simple yet solid gameplay can hold up a game 20 years laters
Always wanted to play this and never picked it up. I'm pumped to hear this is running well on Switch. Can't wait to dive in!
I didn't even know this was coming! I only played it through again on the Gamecube a couple of years ago. Such a fun game.
What are those joycons you're using?
Looks like one of the Hori Split Pads.
Yep it runs great on my deck
This game is so special to me, I'll definitely be grabbing it
MAMAGOOOO 😄
What joy cons are those black with blue lights? NVM in description lol.
Never completed this the first time round. I was going to get the Switch version, but the 30fps…may have to get it on my Series x instead.
Mark the gyro man
Hahaha you and me know differently 😜
Has nothing to do with the effort put in Prime
Wow! I missed this game when it originally came out and always wanted to try it, I’m gonna have to snatch this up but maybe in a week or two cause I’m getting Luigi’s mansion 2 this week as I also have not played that
Is it on ps4 to? I haven’t seen any footage of ps4, it’s tempting to get on the switch just for portability
WHAT! Where did this come from? I don't remember anyone mentioning anything about this coming to switch.
Hopefully they’ll patch it because the switch is my main system. That said, even my cruddy laptop can probably run this game at 60fps
I think ultimately the CPUs in those old consoles are probably better than the low-clocked ARM cores in the Switch. Usually performance issues in Switch ports are due to the CPU/memory bandwidth, definitely the very tender Achilles Heel of the Switch.
I have no hope for a Beyond 2. The first game was so good, as I remember it 😂 Thanks for covering this 😊
I just played through the original for the first time on GameCube.
I never had a chance to play this when it first came out, so I'm really happy to have a chance to now. Thanks for the review! ❤
Love this game back then and sadly never actually finish it. I'm glad I get another chance to finish it ☺️.
Does the broken FPS rate is only on Switch or do you have the same thing on other ports (especially PC) ?
This game at one point was my favorite game of all time. So happy to see it back! ❤
Wasn’t it 60fps on GameCube?
yes it was and i have the gamecube game it runs well very smooth
Any chance they did away with the bits that would abruptly switch you to tank controls? I can't deal with that these days.
Well Luigis Mansion is physical also or do ypu expect LR will just charge 17 for the physical version? 😀
