  • Legendary Las Vegas illusionist David Copperfield takes us behind the scenes & gives us a glimpse backstage at some of his escapes, mentalism & magic that he has performed live on tour around the world in his live shows such as "An Intimate Evening of Grand Illusion", his broadway show "Dreams & Nightmares", & on his many CBS TV specials.
In this video, David reveals all behind the ultimate haunted house illusion where makes contact with the ghosts and spirits of Barclay House, inspired by the infamous "Spirit Cabinet illusion" made famouse in the 1800s. This was featured on "The Magic of David Copperfield XVI: Unexplained Forces, &" 15 Years of Magic", which includes "The Best of David Copperfield" where he is interviewed by Claudia Schiffer at his secret warehouse, & later released on his DVD "Illusion", which also features a compilation of all of his most famous illusions, such as The Learjet Vanish, The Death Saw, Fires of Passion, The Statue of Liberty Disappears & more.
David Copperfield is the greatest & most famous illusionist of all time, who from his very early shows on & even now has consistently amazed the world with his magic. Witness the magic of the man who made a seven ton learjet airplane vanish, made the Statue of Liberty Disappear, floated over the Grand Canyon, walked through The Great Wall of China, escaped from Alcatraz, confronted the mystery of The Bermuda Triangle, escaped from an imploding building, escaped from Niagara Falls, has sawed HIMSELF in half as opposed to the traditional "Sawing A Woman In Half" in the infamous "Death Saw", made an Orient Express train car disappear, conquered human flight by floating above audience members without the aid of wings, strings, or camera tricks in his most famous levitation illusion called "Flying" that is considered his "greatest illusion of all time", escaped from a straitjacket ten stories in the air, survived being inside of a "Tornado of Fire", & in his live shows, has filled thousands of theaters with snow, made thousands disappear in his equally famous "Thirteen" illusion, & his most famous illusion, "Portal", in the ultimate teleportation, where he transports himself & a lady from the audience from the stage, to a beach on Hawaii on an island in the middle of nowhere, yet still continues to make his mark in pop culture with his many tv & movie appearances, with tv shows such as "Late Night With David Letterman", "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno", "The Arsenio Hall Show, "Oprah", & most recently "America's Got Talent", & movie cameos on "Terror Train" with Jamie Lee Curtis, & "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" with Steve Carel, as well as continuing to evolve his magic by the constant creation of new illusions.
David can be seen live & up close year round at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in his very own "David Copperfield Theater", formerly knows as Hollywood Theater, in his latest new show "Live The Impossible", which is sure to capture the imaginations of children as well as adults, by first materializing on stage out of no where on his Harley, known as "The Motorcycle Shadow Box", & later introduces us to his childhood toy dinosaur that he calls "Frank", & to a little blue magical alien named "Atilla". He also performs classics such as "The Squeeze Box", also known as "The Shrink Box", living his grandfather's dream of predicting & winning the lottery & making his dream car appear, & some funny magic with his magical partner, Webster The Duck, in a kid favorite called "Slo Mo Duck", which is one that totally goes "over the head", & is one that leaves you wanting him to "do it again", which he in fact does, but again in slow motion, where all will be revealed, & a classic close up piece that had been a staple of his show for years, where he transforms a simple piece of paper into a paper rose, than into a REAL rose in "The Floating Rose". By using a mixture of music, storytelling, romance, lighting & choreography, close-up magic AND grand illusion, Copperfield creates the ultimate live theater experience for his fans, leaving them feeling full of wonder.
To this day people ask "How did he make the Statue of Liberty disappear?", along with many other illusions that even The Masked Magician has yet to figure out the secrets to & expose on tv. Through his many CBS TV specials, & world tours in his live show, he continues to amaze the world. So sit back, relax, & enjoy his magic & escapes, right in your own home right here on The David Copperfield Channel.
Also, if you are a fan, you MUST see his live show at least once, so be sure to get tickets on your next Las Vegas vacation & witness, the one, the only, "The Magic of David Copperfield"

I saw this magical piece of art live in Boston in the 1990's. This is by far the most incredible piece of magic I witnessed in my entire life. The ghosts flew over us, they were all over and the vanish and reappearance of the members of the audience is like witnessing a Steven Spielberg movie live ! David Copperfield is not only the best illusionist of the 20th and 21st centuries, he's a true trailblazer and the only magician capable of good taste and discernement.

@@iletaMarchita In this TV special it's CGI, but I saw the illusion live on stage and there where actually flying things above the audience, but only from the stage to the back of the audience in a straight line. They were not flying around.

I remember when this special came out, I believe it was 94, my parents and I were leaving the El Torro Air show when we heard on the radio about it. We were huge fans of DC. The backstory on this freaked me out so much as a kid. Well Done! His assistants are gorgeous

This has always been one of my favorites…I’m thankful that my elementary school music teacher, was a magician on the side.
We never missed out on any of the DC televised shows; if the tv was in the room when we walked in - we knew it was a david Copperfield Special kind of day.

Does anyone else remember watching this when they were a kid and I could swear I remember a woman's hand coming out from the steeple and trying to strangle david. It scared the hell out of me as a kid so it's weird I didn't see it here.

Love for DC but that volunteer John who was blindfolded was so obviously a stooge working along

    • @rowelle
      @rowelle 11 днів тому

I believe all three of them were stooges only because they knew when to step in front of the light for their reappearance. But yes, John definitely a stooge and they also had a duplicate jacket that David was quickly putting on while the curtain was rising with the original jacket. So David saying that they found weird random objects in the participants jackets is so BS. Still love him though!

OK even when I watched this as a teenager, I always assumed the ghosts flying over the audience was camera tricks and special effects. It just looks kind of fake, and the way the audience is reacting seems acted/scripted. But in the commentary he's really trying to insist that it's really happening and not camera tricks. And even that they're really floating/flying due to how they can be affected by the audience body heat. What does everyone think?? Still looks like camera trickery to me

Copperfield has admitted that some of the effects on TV/DVD were added in post-production. However, he states that he always tried to keep the appearance of the effects close to how the real audience would have experienced them in the theater.
I saw "Dreams and Nightmares" live in Munich in 1998 and can tell you that the ghosts really flew through the auditorium in different zig-zag courses. However, the ghosts did not fly through rows of audience members as the TV-version implies. So I think Copperfield made it look a bit more impressive in post-production. However, I agree - the overall effect on TV looks a bit fake which is a shame since the real deal looked incredible already.

@@AgeCreationTutorials I too saw this show in England in what was to him a small theatre. Yes there were "ghost" flying about live at that show and if anything, they were more impressive than the fake looking ones in this video. The general smoke and flashes are what happens in a live show but that really big explosion has been added in the video only as it would have been too dangerous to do that on stage. It's the reappearance that got to me. I know what to look for and there was no way whatsoever for the 3 people to get to that very thin platform and behind the curtain. It was almost at the front of the stage and you could see clearly all around it. Then there they were. I now know how they did, but at the time, I almost cried.

@@AgeCreationTutorials As a magician myself, I can see it from both sides as even when known I can enjoy the work and showmanship that still has to go into achieving the effect. Any trick is or at least should be greater that the elastic band that makes it work. So even if you know about the elastic band, you should still enjoy the skill and performance to pull off a trick.
With this one illusion and the reappearance, I am not ashamed to say that it caught me out big time and had the very rare privilege of feeling like a kid again. Sadly that doesn't happen much now that I understand the workings of illusions. Even now that I know how it was done, I can still admire the mastery of what they do to pull it off.
