Should be called "Jason plays with his knob on screen for 12 minutes". Also, isn't a "Smart Knob" a bit of an oxymoron?
Hahaha... knob 😂
@ByteMyBits At least you can admit that you're stupid (said in an angry Home Assistant nerd voice, best illustrated by Paul Hibbert).
JK! You're a wizard, man! I think you've sold me on buying a few of these since I just started dipping my toes in the Zigbee pool. As for suggestions, I would offer the idea of having an additional mode that cycles through scenes since I think that most people have "go to" settings that they prefer regularly.
Have you considered using Node Red?
Why is this code not already in or available for the button??? Why do you have to code it???
Honestly I’m glad to see this kind of content from you mixed in with your of the coughs one’s. 🎉
Immediately went and bought 4 of them. I think they will work nicely with my IKEA TRÅDFRI bulbs
Did you not just buy the tradfri knobs? They look almost exactly the same as these. Not quite as many functions though but they do the twisty thing pretty well.
@@RyanMcGuinness IKEA doesn't have the twisty thing. And the ones they do have suck for integrating they hold down functions in Home Assistant
@@RyanMcGuinness Bought one of those knobs, never stayed connected for me. I've used the Aqara dimmer knobs, work well.
just the video i was looking for about this dial, cheers for making
Can you do this for zigbee2mqtt?
Can we run the code i. Smart life app?
Looked at the code, and I use the same "input_number" with an "automation the runs everytime it changes" method for controlling some of my LEDs. The input is currently sliders in my home assistant interface, but it should be really easy to add the knob, I have 90% of the code already in place, and zigbee2mqtt setup. Thanks for showing this.
EDIT 8/7/23: Received rotary knob today, working good for controlling Brightness and Temperature of lights.
Very clever idea! Bravo on sticking through it to get the solution you wanted! As a possible improvement to the RGB code, check out HSV color codes - that may provide a more direct way to affect the color and brightness of the lights. If the lights only take RGB values as input, I'm sure there's an HSV->RGB converter out there for HA.
Thanks for the tips!
I like it, I can think of a couple projects to use that with. Does it work with zigbee2mqtt or did you have to use a Tuya integration?
I have a couple connected to Z2M. They work great.
It's a ZigBee device that can work with Z2M or ZHA, although the automations he made are using ZHA mappings. I'm working on a Z2M equivalent.
I'd probably inject another mode there, between modes 0 and 1, which is presets... make life easier ;).
Thanks for the great idea and all the work you put into coding and making the tutorial! I might be a moron but I notice you are using some input_boolean helpers as well (toggle_kitchen_rgb_top, toggle_kitchen_rgb_bottom, kitchen_rgb_toggle and toggle_kitchen_rgb_100). Can you please tell me how you are using those and maybe include the yaml of those automations as well?
Great code and solution. Anothe Option If you look at the rgbw controller. In the developer tools in state. It will give you the rgbw values of current color. So if you have a color you want look at the values when the color is active.
Could you use this for something like the Hue Tap Dial?
Should be a blueprint for a home assistant automations.
love the feature and the knob. I for one, would love an indepth on the yaml, etc on how you connected everything. Any more other types of remote controls for HA? Would like seeing more remote automations.
second link goes to a 403 page
Ohh, rotary combination lock 🙂
Hsv was the way to go.
3:59 every cat needs one of these lights 😁
This is magnificent!
First, S**k it hard Nate.
You have accomplished exactly what I would like to do myself. If you are an idiot, then I'm a neanderthal idiot, lol. I am very new to home automation and don't know many software languages, so you are certainly ahead of me. I realize that you are minimalizing yourself to defray the overwhelming criticism you might get, but in the end, all information is good information. It's just a matter of how you accept it. Don't take it personally and accept it as an attempt to motivate you and help you work more efficiently in the future. I know a lot about engineering but don't know code. As long as you remember that nobody knows everything and that even the people with learning disabilities have something to teach us, you can always be proud of what you know and what you've accomplished.
I have one and love this. Hola Jason.
Most hackable home award goes to....
all kidding aside what you are doing is God's work... but hope you have a serious security system. In 5 years these devices will be swiss cheese.
Why do you say that?
Zigbee devices are not prone to the same security vulnerabilities that WiFi devices are. He'll be fine.
@TechySpeaking that was my thinking, but was curious if mumodbios knew something I didn't. I am under the impression that the only real vulnerable period for a zigbee device was during pairing.
Was anyone able to get this working with Zigbee2MQTT as opposed to ZHA? I'm not sure how to change this
I'm working on the Z2M mappings right now.
@@TechySpeaking have you made it work on z2m? care to share?
@@TechySpeaking maybe you did it already? Im trying to control brigtness/color of the light with Z2M, i didn't know that it'll be so hard ^^ I downloaded some blueprint, which seems to be working, only i don't know how to cycle thru colors. My bulb can 'cycle' thru brightness "device -> decrease/increase brightness", but I don't have simillar option for color... Maybe you can help?
