    My mother passed at 81 years old in July. She worked up until 2 months prior to her passing. She was a proud woman who would never ask for help. When she passed we went to her 600' apartment in Sarasota. Going through her paperwork, we discovered she was receiving $1388 a month gross in social security. That money was taxed, and she netted less than $1250. She paid into that most of her life, and they still taxed these monies. This is pathetic.

    • @Hartline
      @Hartline Місяць тому

      The money from her pay was for Medicare. But I agree no tax on social security, if you make above the amount that they allow them they want you to file a tax statement at the end of the year and it is bull____!!! we already paid taxes out of our paychecks. I feel that the IRS needs to be audited as well as all of our government!! Cancel the IRS and put forth a straight tax for all including the people that pay no taxes....

      Folks it is not that they cannot pass an audit. The government was setup under a completely different set of accounting principles. We are now trying to shove a square peg in round hole with GAAP for government books. Will never work. We either need to restructure entire budget and programming process or develop an alternate method to audit

    I would agree with Rand Paul if he and all his fellow elite members of congress would give up their plush government insurance and retirement and switch to Social Security and Medicare like the rest of us. Rather than fully vested after 5 years, they must also work the same amount of years like us peasants do before they can get retirement benefits.

    Tariff's only effect goods being imported or exported..... if we hadn't exported our own manufacturing then this would be a net boon. We need to rebuild our manufacturing industry, we need to stop relying on having our goods imported from oversea. Build an economy from the ground up, then Tariff the shit out of other Countries that want access to our markets = Profits

    • @craignmz5264
      @craignmz5264 Місяць тому +6

      I think you are missing the point of tariffs a tariff is designed to do just that. The Idea is to make it worthwhile for production to take place here. It does make products more expensive because we demand to be paid more than what say Chinese people are willing to work for. We can’t continually rely on other countries to produce important goods that we need.

A lot of us who are on SS did not make a lot of money but worked until we were 70 are older. We did not have a 401 had never heard of it. If you cut the one's like me you are going to have a lot of people homeless and I would be one.

      @@gp877Didn't Congress borrow money from SSN for other things. Instead of cutting benefits as the go-to first step, shouldn't we first look at why contributions to it didn't work? As far as other entitlements, why didn't all the recent deindustrialization not create long lunch lines like the comparatively small factory closing of the 1930s cause?

      From the very beginning, the full retirement age (FRA) for Social Security had been 65 years of age. At the time, life expectancy was 60.7 years. In 2022, the life expectancy was 77.5 in the United States. Furthermore, in developed countries, the number of centenarians is increasing at approximately 5.5% per year, which means doubling the centenarian population every 13 years, pushing it from some 455,000 in 2009 to 4.1 million in 2050. Without addressing the FRA to life expectancy issues, the current Social Security system is simply unsustainable. If FRA is not incrementally adjusted (keep in mind that COLA is adjusted). there will be nothing for anybody. - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_expectancy
      Please also note: the money you paid into Social Security is NOT the source of the benefits you receive, the money being paid into it by the current workforce is where your benefits come from. It's like a government run Ponzi scheme, and it will collapse if the money coming in isn't enough to cover the payments being made to beneficiaries. This has been happening since 2021. Adjustments and reform are required for the program to remain solvent.
      The first monthly payment was issued on January 31, 1940 to Ida May Fuller of Ludlow, Vermont.[34] In 1937, 1938, and 1939, she paid a total of $24.75 into the Social Security System. Her first check was for $22.54.[34] After her second check, Fuller already had received more than she contributed over the three-year period. She ultimately reached her 100th birthday, dying in 1975,[34] and she collected a total of $22,888.92.[35] - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Social_Security_in_the_United_States
      The system was fine when there were approximately 5 workers for every retiree. It doesn't work all that well in today's times.

Most people on welfare have never worked, never paid and it’s just their way of life. How about cuts to that? How putting a time limit to how long people can collect welfare? I don’t mind helping people when they’re down, but not when they have no intention of doing better. I have worked, I have paid and I am tired.

      You most likely don't realize that the US military aid that Ukraine receives is of older military equipment and weapons that are being phased out. The US military's older equipment and weapons are being replaced with newly manufactured ones.
      Also, Ukraine will be repaying America for much of our military's surplus that would soon be slated to be decommissioned and wasted.
      At least Ukraine would pay for this aid to protect themselves from Russia's invasion of their sovereign nation.
      Also... they don't ask for troops. Ukraine defends themselves with only their own citizens in combat.
      And here is the real bargin... Russia (Putin) isn't going to stop with Ukraine... his next targets are the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Then, to Romania and Poland. When this occurs... it is WWIII, and sending aid to Ukraine is the bargain of the century. Because if America is drawn into a European land war, it will cost America trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands, perhaps millions of American lives.
      Ukraine can stop Putin if they are properly armed and equipped.
      Also, Ukraine has an estimated 7 trillion dollars of natural resources they are sitting on and have offered to open up access to their resources as a way to repay the costs of defending themselves. This has been proposed to soon to be president Trump, and he is currently weighing the opportunity.
      I think you've been misinformed or perhaps haven't had an opportunity to learn additional details about the war in Ukraine and how it benefits both America and Ukraine at the same time.
      I would call this a win-win-win.

Why should people who make a large salary suddenly get a 6.2% increase in Take Home Pay on wages over $168,600. Spenfing is only part of the problem. The wealthy / very wealthy must pay more! About 45 years ago three trends began, increasing Inequality, decreasing wages, deficit spending. These were choices of tax policy. We can choose to reverse these trends too. For example, the shortfall in social security savings is mostly explained by how the rich receive their income. Which they take in ways that avoid the traditional social security tax. Their missing contribution is the missing portion of the funds money. The US economy has become much much more productive over the last 45 years, obviously. Ask yourself why regular people are not feeling more prosperous. It is because the wealth generated has been transferred by tax policy to one class of people.

    I'm a Democrat who agrees with Rand Paul with a few exceptions.
    - We all paid for our social security. I don't believe I'm getting any more than I put in (except cost of living raises). When I got my benefits statement, it showed what I put in each year and what my monthly check would be when I retire. It didn't give me extra ENTITLEMENTS for being a nice guy, good American, hard worker or caring for an aging parent.
    - It's what Rand Paul didn't say. that concerns me. Why is Congress giving themselves raises while griping about social security raises? Are there a lot of Senators about to go on the bread line? Rand, I realize that nixing the raises won't balance the budget, but at least, put some skin in the game.
    --Why did President Trump give large tax breaks to corporate America (as well as planning to do it again in 2025). Are there CEO's out there in danger of becoming homeless? This is why Americans are distrustful of their politicians (of both parties).
    -Why isn't tax fraud in corporate America being investigated aggressively? In 2015, candidate Trump bragged about gaming the tax system. His logic was if taking a deduction was clearly unethical, but not illegal, that made him a smart businessman. He said in the same breath he was the only one who could drain the swamp.
    -Why are so many Congressmen afraid of confronting Trump when they disagree with him on a policy they know is wrong for America? If he (or Musk) primaries a Senator or Congressman and they lose their jobs, will they need to apply for public assistance?
    Grow up and

    However, I live comfortably on less than what, (guessing), 90% of Americans would consider a living wage, along with giving approx. 28% of my gross income to charity.. I own property and my house and live in Salem, OR, ( more expensive than many places in the states).. I admit that I am and always have been very conservative with money matters. I also, have to admit that giving to charity, when I can see the great results, is one of my joys in life.

    As much as I like Rand Paul, he's completely wrong on FURTHER raising the age of retirement. It's easy for politicians to talk about cutting Social Security or raising the age of eligibility when they all have a golden parachute retirement plan with health plans that give them the ability to survive into their 80's and even 90's while Social Security/Medicare recipients have to try to survive with garbage "health care". The real way to fix Social Security is to raise the FICA tax. Period. The younger workers will not like the idea but in reality the amount of increase in their FICA deduction will be minuscule.... less than a cup of Starbucks coffee per check. Also remove the cap on income... completely. No matter how much a person earns they should pay the same percentage as minimum wage workers. Yes, eliminate waste and fraud in Social Security but do not increase the retirement age. The American Dream ends with a retirement that a person can actually enjoy... not dying before they can retire or collect SS or being so frail or sick that life beyond that point is meaningless... sitting in a chair or lying in a bed is not "retirement". My recent retirement was at 66 years and 8 months... almost 67. How much time do I have left? Not a lot. How is that fair? Working until you die or working until you're an invalid is no incentive to work in the first place. "Golden Years" no that rarely happens... unless you're a Politician or Bureaucrat. Why do Congress and President/Vice President get raises nearly every year? Pay for all politicians should be reduced immediately by 50% and all politicians should be retirering with only the same benefits that Social Security recipients get... MEDICARE not a Cadillac health care plan.

      I think what Rand Paul is trying to say is that he doesn't want to increase the age requirement on social security, but we're literally spending 2 trillion dollars more than we have every year and every time you say something about social security or medicare you get major negative public feed back from people who don't understand that some really tough budget decisions are going to need to be made thats going to be justifiably attacked, I mean something like Children's cancer research, while i certainly don't want to defund cancer research for children, i think realize we're losing over 2 trillion every year that maybe we need to look at cut backs on all programs universally, including alot of our presence in the middle east, but I'm worried about israel we should not abandon israel, alot of these other places we should think about ending some aid, ending proxy wars, yeah It can't survive without cutting something on social security and medicare, so do you go into bankruptcy or what do you look at cutting, whats the things that can be cut, what kind of benefits if removed negatively impacted americans the least. its a hard conversation to have and basically suicide for a reelection cuz no one ever thinks that social security, or medicare be cut in any way, in fact it should be added to. I think balancing the budget is a step to creating a system that support social security growth, but currently we don't have the capabilities.
