    Ahhh had coffee left from my second run trailer swap when I got back to my home yard. Finished paperwork and happen to notice was 0200 on the nose. Smiled to myself knowing about time I got to the house... and soon as I let the dawg out.. there was Gary👍 as always, time for a coffee ☕

      @@garys_stuff I've put my miles under my belt since the mid 90's driving trucks. Seen traffic discover cell phones, then video on phones (LoL) up towards the modern almost self driving cars. Even the big trucks are becoming push button driving. Looking forward to getting behind the wheel of the Tesla or Rivian electric big trucks, then less worried about catching the next Ordinary Bloke episode 😜 going down the highway. I don't touch freight anymore, all drop and hooks. And I get to spend my play money on building a stash of "soon to be tackled" recommendations. Keep up your hard work and I'll keep making coffee ☕

    I'm about to start on this kit! I have the one with three paint variants, all red, all blue and one that's a grey/green mix. I want to try that as it looks the best imo. Thanks for this video!

    Really nice build!
    Maybe not the best 1/48 kit ever molded, but, IMO, much superior to prior Sea Fury kits.

    Lovely build I moved away from Airfix as they got left behind compared to other manufacturers. But of late I think they have come on extremely well. Pound for pound I think they are up there with the rest. I'm contemplating clearing a lot of my stash if not most of it and going back to Airfix and getting them as and when, probably mostly due to Videos like these. I'm not much into the extra fine details that rarely get seen.

      I would agree on the continuing quality improvements Peter. The more recent toolings - the Buccaneer, Vulcan, Hurricane I, etc., have been very good - the only occasional issue normally as a result of poor research rather than poor design (e.g. Mosquito). The plastic is better, the moulds are much sharper and some thought is given to how to actually put them together. Some are still right up there for "build-ability", I'm thinking of the recent Revell F-15E for example, but for your money Airfix are generally coming good.

      I agree Peter. Personally I think Airfix still have some way to go before being right up there due to there repeated stupid mistakes which don't need to happen (mismoulds, the well-documented poor fit of the Meteor nosecone, frequent lack of clarity on their instructions). That said, for sure they have come along in leaps and bounds, finally, finally, realising they do have to compete with other quality manufacturers and start producing easy to build and accurate kits. I just don't think they are there quite yet.

    Hi Gary, that was a outstanding build, there some brutish about some of those later was prop fighters, well done mate, best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia.

      Love a big prop plane. There was time when we made planes that, viewed from the front, made it quite clear that things are about to go very badly for you. The Buccaneer S.2 was another one. Coming straight at you, your main thought as a baddie has to be "oh oh, this will not end well for me..." Tempest and Sea Fury the same thing.

    There is an Aftermarket replacement resin cowling set and a Propeller set available for the Airfix kits. They are made by Barracuda Studios in the US and are a drop-fit replacement. Barracuda do mail order. I bought 2 cowlings and 2 propeller sets for my 2 Airfix Sea Fury kits. Well worth the small $20.00 each US) outlay. I gave the Airfix parts to another IPMS member when I "sold" him the old Hobby Craft kit as a freebie. (The cowling/Propeller in that kit is even worse!) Lovely build, BTW. I have the Korean War boxing, myself, on the to do list. But I do like the Dutch version too! (Cue another set of Barracuda bits!)

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 роки тому

      If I do another Sea Fury I'll bear that in mind. I think the prop spinner is a little blunt as well, is that included in the resin kit?

    Great tip you snuck in there on the sanding stick! Had a look back at the unboxing video because I was curious if those guns and cowling were on same sprue (they weren't) or similar positions (again apparently not). Disappointing due to not many kits in this scale of this plane. Hopefully it's something they get fixed with the newer leadership. Not sure how they can tackle the landing gear support, agree with the poor implementation of them. Otherwise a nice variation of livery. Glad you got your Orange 🍊 fix in👍. Cheers

    This kit is nice, but it does suffer from Airfix dropping the ball as they manage to do on almost all their kits. I had to have the first replaced due to the short-shot tail fin, and then the instructions suffered lack of clarity - all manufacturers can learn much from Tamiya for clarity including colour callouts.. The engine cowling could have been better designed I feel. Aside from the problems we see here, I found the cowling parts can be glued together upside down and back to front in all sorts of combinations. Offsetting location pins and the like would have eased construction.
    For all that, it does build to a great kit though and as a FAA fan, I am very much looking forward to the new 1/48 Buccanee.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 роки тому

      I love FAA kits too - mainly as my Dad served with 800NAS. I have done all of his squadron's aircraft, from Hawker Nimrod to Bae Harrier, in 1/72, the new Airfix Buccaneer makes me thing I should do it all in 1/48th. Apart from there not being a Hawker Osprey, or a Scimitar.

      @@garys_stuff My father was on Eagle from the mid-late 60s to and including it's last deployment before scrapping in 1972. He went on to Wessex in the mid-70s but he's always said his favourite was the Sea Vixen.
      We definitely need more 1/48 FAA subjects and I'm looking forward to Airfix's new Buccaneer, I am hoping that someone will release markings to build a Buccaneer on HMS Eagle 1971-1972.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 роки тому

      Then your father will have known 800NAS because they flew Scimitars and Buccaneers from HMS Eagle! The current 1/72 Buccaneer S.2C kit in FAA colours includes an 800NAS Bucc from Eagle in 1971. That is a very nice kit to build - I've made four of them (converted two to S.1 standard)!

    • @MisterHampshire
      @MisterHampshire 2 роки тому

      @@garys_stuff He does indeed. I have a couple of 1/48 Sea Vixens in the cupboard (I've already done one but it was damaged) and intend to build another, which is why I am hoping someone will produce after-market 800 San HMS Eagle c1971 so I can put the two together, along with a couple of Italieri 1/48 Wessex (Wessii?) builds depicting Eagle of the same era.
      I have built the 1/72 Airfix Buccaneer HMS Eagle and yes it's a nice kit, and whilst I understand why Airfix would not want to repeat the same schemes in their 1/48 kit, I'm disappointed they didn't nonetheless.
      Wonder if our fathers would have known each other from various RN stations?

    Well done Gary. You’ve made a nice job of this considering the issues with the kit. In recent years Airfix have really made some great strides forward but every now and again they slip up and this seems to be one of those cases. I’m a bit worried about the upcoming 1/48 scale Buccaneer. Apparently it will be north of £70. That is “Tamiya money” and at that price they can’t afford to have anything wrong or the anti-Airfix brigade will be down on it like a ton of bricks.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 роки тому

      Thanks Ian! Yes, the new 1/48 Buccaneer will be £74.49 list - £67 to Club members. It looks good from the CAD but then so did the Sea Fury! I like that they have included ladders and FOD guards, as well as more weapons choice with the Martels. Also an open engine panel on the port side. They show 8x1000lb bombs, so I am assuming (rashly?) that they will have racks in the bomb bay - something sadly lacking on the 1/72. I'm hopeful, also that they'll include a scheme for 800NAS among the others although that doesn't look like it'll happen...

      Let’s keep our fingers crossed! It’s great that Airfix are doing these British aircraft but they just need to go that extra 10%.
