My new manga one-shot Onami was published by Viz Media earlier this week on the 7th of August. Please support me by reading it here: www.viz.com/vizmanga/chapters/onami PRO TIP: If you want to see more of Onami, TELL VIZ THAT! If they get enough interest in seeing more Onami story, they MIGHT give it a series! But in order for that to happen, you need to tell them that! Congrats on publishing!!! Ive actually had one experience myself trying to get a one-shot into Viz (which got rejected). They were very quick and nice in their reply, which was a little surprising. They also gave plenty of feedback for what i should look at imoroving for either my next work or if i redo the one shot i sent. And stated that they were very interested in me sending them my new works. It showed me that editors and publishers are definitely not as bad as people say they are. Definitely recommend anyone just to shoot their shot and show their works to editors. It can be helpful even if you wont publish with them
I am glad you’re doing good and have an excellent comic that you’ve been working on. I definitely will tell Viz that we need more of Onami. This first part was really well made and love the art style you have for it.
@@Wrathgir Thank you so much! Do you have any feedback on what you wish I could have done better? If not, that's ok, no pressure. Thank you so much for the comment and encouraging them to invest in Onami more! I was really nervous about the style cause I'm a bit messy and chaotic lmao 🤣
I found your manga to be very good I think the plot structure was a little weak though the protagonist could have earned the training from the god of the sea a little more before the training started. What was really good and exceptional about yours manga is that it's a fantastical story and world that you're building but you also make the art very realistic. It's interesting mixing realism with fantasy you nailed that balance
Thank you so much for reading it and for giving me some feedback! I agree it was rushed and it needed more time to develop. That was pretty consistent feedback I got from other readers. Spot on with that one. I really love world building, and I'm so happy that came across AND you enjoyed the world I built. I appreciate you taking time to comment. Thank you so much!
I've heard of that one but I've not read it. I suppose it's up to the author if they want to submit it. I'm not sure how they'd handle that to be honest.
In the submission guidelines, they say that completed pages are preferred. So i'm assuming that means they want pages that are inked and toned? Is it better to submit a fully done oneshot or one that's only in pencil so that its faster to make revisions?
@@charlology7219 if it's been 60 days and you haven't hesrd back, I'd assume they didn't accept it. I would try again with another story, or edit and resubmit.
@@charlology7219 if it's been more than 2 months, I wiuld assume it wasn't accepted. I would redo it and try again or do a different story if you want to do that. It might take a few tries to get in. That's pretty normal even in Japan.
I have a question regarding this one-shot program. If you are using a program such as clip studio, should you use the B4 paper canvas and draw inside the provided frames, or should you use just use a non-template canvas with your own dimension sizes? If you see this comment please respond. Thank you.
@@ALIENBRIX for the initial submission, I think using margins of SOME kind would be best in my personal opinion. If you are going to be published, they will offer you a template and dimensions to use for the final artwork. Before that, B4 with the frames should be perfectly fine! Good luck!
@@ArtCrumbs thank you so much. Btw congrats on your submission. That work is phenomenal by far. I think it’s tied for the best artwork and story along with Skin and Bone.
@@ALIENBRIX You're very welcome and thank you so much! I was actually really nervous about my art style cause it feels SO messy! Lol I'm so happy you liked Onami. I'm praying they greenlight me for a series!
If I can ask a question, what happens to the copyrights & trademark of your work if you get accepted? Does Viz Media keep all rights to the series or do you keep them?
For the one-shot, I keep all my rights, and Hisashi-san confirmed that in a tweet as well. As for a series, I'm not sure, I'm not at that point yet. However, in manga, rights typically stay with the mangaka in Japan. I would suspect it would be the same here.
@@ArtCrumbs i see, thank you for the info! I've been wanting to try & submit a one-shot, but I've been sorta skeptical because I didn't wanna lose my rights to the work, but thank you!
@@jyom6039 I don't see why it would be an issue, lots of pro mangaka draw traditionally. Just understand that there is a big chance you'll need to do revisions, so be ready to redraw things.

Very Interesting. I'm reading Dog Ningen right now though.
Idk if Viz is cool enough to publish that Lol.

True true, my advice is just a suggestion based on my experience. Feel free to ignore it. Both are accepted.
