    Just reviewed this video, I had watched it before I moved over, But wanted to review your experience my packet is on its way to the IND and now I count the days until I get my BSN number. Having been here almost two months without it, simple things start to get complicated... Your videos are such a help Carl from Limburg

    I enjoy following your UA-cam channel. As a native Dutch person, it is very informative to hear about how you can start living and working in the Netherlands from abroad. Most Dutch people have no idea about this, but they do have an opinion about it. The prevailing opinion is that it is far too easy to enter the Netherlands and to use the facilities in our country. Looking at your video I actually see the opposite .

    If you sign a rent contract you are entitled to register yourself at that address with the municipality whatever the landlord thinks. If he-she rents out something illegally that is his-her problem not yours. I went through that in 2009. The good thing in the Netherlands is that you have rights as a renter and are not at the whimps of the landlord.

    Most people forget the municipality is by far the most important. Basically it is the basis of everything you need. That means you need to sort your living municipality first, all other things are secondary.

    Great tips! Another (hopefully temporary) hurdle is that U.S. citizens now need to quarantine immediately upon arrival for 10 days (can be shortened after a negative test on day 5, and there are exemptions). Of course signing up for the test requires a BSN, and I'm not sure how you get that from quarantine...

      Being the main occupant of an address doesn't give you any rights if a more important contract (marriage) is valid.
      Because of marriage they both have equal rights. Not being married or not having a registered partnership, can complicate things.

    (I see you mentioned this yourself later on in the video) Registration allowed vs not allowed: If you can register with an apartment/house this means you can use it as an official address for residence. For instance the government will not allow you to use the address of a hotel as your residential address. You need a residential address for most official procedures.

      @wimschiphorst8541 2 роки тому

      Following my recent answer. The landlords use these contracts so they can put you out and rent again to new people for an higher price. And that attracts a lot of so callend investors. Buying cheap houses rent by average income people. But rent them to exparts for 3 times the price. If you get/have a what we in Holland call a normal contract then this is for live long. For some little exceptions

    • @flower_power

      @@wimschiphorst8541 it depends on your contract. If you have a temporary contract, you have less rights untill 2 years. If you have a permanent contract, your rights a better from the start. As an expat you will mostly rent in private rental sector and you mostly have a temporary contract.

    An important thing to know about the BSN is that if you start working and don't have one, you pay 52% income tax, even if you would be on minimum wage. And if you get the BSN after you received your first pay, you can only get the overpaid tax back when you file your taxes the next year, your employer cannot just submit it as a correction.

    I can't wait to hear more about the business end of DAFT requirements. I'm curious about how much growth the business needs every year to maintain a DAFT residency. From what I see online the only requirement is maintaining a minimum balance in the business account. I currently make most of my money from stock dividends and other capital gains. Could I theoretically just maintain a minimum balance in my business account and still earn(and pay tax on) my other income? Maybe that will be answered in the next video. Thanks for the content, the videos are great!
