He is the God of war. He is the perfect gentleman from the start of their relationship the way he loves and takes care of his wife is amazing. The princess was in a relationship with her childhood sweetheart but her husband does not give her a hard time or tries to pressure her to be intimate with him. It feels like the God of war was already very important to the princess, because she was very upset that he left her on their wedding night. If you are forced into a marriage with someone you don’t love you would not care about them leaving you on your wedding night. The princess was also developing feelings for husband the general because it was so easy for her to allow him to get closer to her . It was like they have been together for years. I thank she was shocked that she is got over her childhood romance ending so fast . The princess was trying to understand her feelings for her husband because she fell in love with him in such a short amount of time. Who are you to me? The God of war can protect his wife and his country. Ex boyfriend could not ever protect a 🪰. She found out what it really mean to fall in love because of her husband.He is a man that can protect her and is someone that really understands her.

She was also told by Empress that if she refused the alliance, Zitan would be killed by Lord and Prime Minister, as his mother and other relatives were imprisoned or killed. Though Lord was in love with her already, being a gentleman, he left her just after marriage with the help of Minister Wen (who was Prime Minister later), as he was running from any forced alliance with Prime Minister. Also, he knew princess is in love with Zitan, so he wanted to give her time to accept him as her husband or reject him. Whether a couple is in love or not, leaving a bride behind on their wedding night is a big humiliation for any woman, especially a princess who's desired by all men around her. I love their love story and how he is so attentive with her. Most powerful men would have taken her on their wedding night. But the General knew she had feelings for someone else. He wanted her but pulled way back to give her time. He’s a Gentlemen and a good person to wait for her to be comfortable with or towards him.
Wang Lin ,the Princess’s father, is a greedy ambitious power hungry man and used his daughter to try and get control of the army by pawning her off on Lord Yuzhang. Lord Yuzhang might be from the lower class but he has more virtue in his little finger than Wang Lin has in his whole body. The Princess gradually sees this and falls in love with him.
