It’s an Ace Frehley album, so I knew what I was getting: something fun and goofy. However, this album had less goofy for me, and I have a great deal of fun with it. I’d rather have all of his albums sound this way. Brown did a great job with this. A complete album for me!
Great review Brendon. I like this album. Interestingly, for me the 1st 4 songs are really good & sound like typical Ace. Just shows that we all hear things differently. The cover is really well done.
Thank you for your honest review and for sharing your thoughts with us.👍🤘👍 For me, the joy is what it is all about my 72-year-old guitar god has even made a new album. In my opinion, Ace Frehley and Kiss fans can be very happy with the result. And, as I expected, "10000 Volts" is a stronger rock album than the last two really weak Kiss albums "Monster" and "Sonic Boom". Overall the album is 8/10 for me.🤘🤘 In my opinion, the production of 10,000 volts turned out very well... I'd be curious to see what it would sound like if Ace re-recorded his 1978 solo album with this type of production... Keep on rocking and greetings from Germany 🇩🇪👍🤘🎸⚡️🌎
Sounds like an Ace Frehley album to me. It's got all the characteristics of Ace including a great instrumental track, some great soloing and some simple yet effective song writing. It certainly doesn't sound anything like Tesla's Shock to my ears. I agree that the second half of the album is stronger though. Very glad Ace still brings out great new music. Wish Kiss would do the same. Cheers.
It grabbed me right off the bat. The flanger effect to kick off the album is bad ass. I think the producer did a great job with aces vocals. Put a lot of life into old Ace. He’s my favorite Kiss member so all good. Hope he does some live shows around us. He’s a fun act.
After a good listen now I can say confidently it's a great album. Doesn't have much standouts, maybe 3 at most but it's, for me personally such a great listen all the way through.
This has shocked me lol This album is amazing I’m from the uk so 70s kiss kind of went over my head I really got into them with revenge but his solo stuff is great but this album is Awsome I’m really digging it it’s great 🏴🏴🏴👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I truly love this album. They gave me what I wanted in a way I didn't expect it which is what every new project should do in my opinion. I hope Steve and Ace keep working together and doing it fast. I Dont want to have to wait another 5 years for a new Ace record of original material. I loved it.
I really enjoy this album. Mick Mars also released a terrific solo album on the exact same day. I find myself listening to Ace's album more because it's a fun party. Feel good music with nice hooks.
This is a very good sounding and played album. Ace's vocals are really the only thing holding this album back from being a great album. I think Ace did as good as he can at this point in his life and I appreciate him putting out new music rather than resting on his laurels. Some very good songs on here. Fightin For Life is definitely the best track and I'm glad he didn't release this as the first single because it would have been a major let down when you find out how much better than all the other songs it is. Having said that, I think they choose great singles to hype the album and I even think there are one or two other "single-worthy" tracks on here. Up In the Sky and Back Into My Arms Again being very catchy commercial Ace tunes as well. I like the cover song too. It's a little weird coming from Ace but, a lot of these tunes do have a little more Steve and Ace is a little awkward on melodic songs but, there is a naive charm about his delivery that makes up for it a bit.
Constantly Cute was my least favorite song lol. It drops the album one whole star (3/5). Blinded and Cherry Medicine are also less to my taste. There are parts of Blinded that I like but, the bridge with the dEEp backing vocals just kills it for me. Some of the lyrics are pretty bad as well. The solo on Blinded is very good though. Classic Ace playing even if it is a little bit of an Ace Frehley "bag o' tricks" that has the typical riffs you'd expect Ace to play. Cherry Medicine stumbles out of the starting blocks. The chorus is solid but, the plodding verse with the key change leading into the chorus combined with Ace slurring his words doesn't hit me right. The the hand clapping and overly repetitous variations on the final choruses are a deal breaker. Probably skipping that one from now on. If I'm being honest. Back Into My Arms Again is almost too schmaltzy for me too but, I do think it's catchy.
I disagree that this doesn’t sound like Frehley. It sounds like Dynasty/Unmasked Ace. If you listen to his early 80s demos, which included the demo for “Back Into My Arms”, this album is right in line with those. Ace has a pop bent that, like Kiss, gets neglected when he wants to go “heavy”. I love this album. To say Steve Brown’s influence is too heavy is like saying Bob Ezrin is too prevalent a presence on Kiss Destroyer. Ezrin basically made that album using Kiss as his tools.
It’s not a terrible album, I like it. It is different and Fighting for life is my favorite track. I think it’s the best sounding album production wise that Ace has done since his KISS solo album. I think bringing in Steve Brown helped him make a more modern sounding Ace Frehley album. I do wish that he would veer away from so much space and electricity lyrics, I get it he’s the Spaceman but I’m sure he has experienced enough in his life to write about other things. But overall I would give it an 8 on a scale of 1-10.
I have been listening to this and I like it quite a bit. I do not know how it compares with his other work as I have not heard any of it. I have never been much a fan of Kiss so I really listened to this because of the title track, which I really like! He is not the best singer in the world but has a kind of different tone to his voice. As far as his guitar playing, I think he is a good guitarist but not in the same league as some others like Michael Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Frank Marino, etc. I actually used to like Peter Criss' vocals in Kiss. It would have been cool if Frehley and Criss did something together!
Great review. I am a huge KISS fan but have been waiting on buying this one to see what the review show. The lyrics on a few of the singles have been very cheesy and the songs are so basic. Doesn’t make me think of a typical Ace album. Will probably pick it up but I’m not in a rush
I appreciate this review. I’ll look into Tokyo Motor Fist to see what you mean. I did like the album for what it was but I see what you mean about it sounding more like Steve Brown than Ace Frehley.
Read a new interview in Billboard in which Ace states that Steve Brown would do the guitar solo on the song. Ace would then either double it, duplicate it, or in two instances kept Browns solo on the album. In essence, Ace is not creating the solos on this album and to me it shows. His playing is bland. This is just as much a Steve Brown solo album with Ace on vocals IMO. That being said it’s still a decent album.
lol... Kiss had like 6 or 7 "Final Farewell Tours" ... heheh.. although i'm a bigger Mean Gene fan... Ace certainly did his part... classic metal band... gotta love them.
I really think Ace did an excellent album. About 6-7 really good songs. I can do without "Constantly Cute." In spots, Ace's vocals don't sound good, such as Cherry Medicine, but he sounds great on Fightin' For Life which is a phenomenal song. Ace released "Back Into My Arms Again" sometime in the later 80s I think, so it's a re-recording of one of his tunes. I don't remember where it came out though - could have been a Greatest Hits package or the tribute album that came out.
There's an amateurish aspect to it (lyrics & singing) combined with a technically advanced musical aspect that keeps my attention more than it would if it were another artist, especially a new artist on the scene. I'll always love Ace and like you said, it's just a good rock album.
I just think these songs weren’t meant for Ace’s voice. But for me I want to hear his voice. I didn’t like it during Frehley’s Comet when he had a signer.
10:1810:23 I really prefered these poster-folded booklets in CD's. I know album with really big 40-panel poster-folded booklet. That was "Śmigło", a studio album released by polish rock band Perfect in 1999.
Not sounding like an Ace album because of the structure? The structure Ace had on his first 78 solo album is very much like this one. You have a handful of awesome short songs, to the point. Then there`s songs that is more wild. Classic Ace.
great album but some stores are overcharging as much as 24 dollars when it retails for 14 dollars basically its movie mars cds doing it their also charging 18 dollars for the new judas priest on amazon
While the song structure might not fit Ace’s vocal style, in no way, shape, or form are his vocals shot. You should listen closer to the album. He’s in great form and sounds amazing. There is nothing wrong with the vocals. It’s just that the songs don’t fit how he sings. But that doesn’t make the vocals bad.
So I loved 87 FC Second Sighting it’s ok Trouble Walkin’ best (besides 78 of course) Anomaly really good Space Invader love it Spaceman it’s ok This album disappointing a few decent songs my favs 10,000 Volts Cosmic Heart Fightin’ For Life Up In The Sky Cherry Medicine, and Constantly Cute are juvenile and cringy So 5-6/10 for me I thought Spaceman was a bit disappointing 10,000 Volts even more 😡
I like the record but I feel like its a steve brown record more than Ace's. Any interview Ace gave before the release he doesn't even knows who played on it.
Steve Brown solo album featuring Ace Frehley. I think it’s a lock to be the worst vocal performance of 2024. I’ve been a fan of 40 plus years. I’ve supported Ace no matter what he’s released, even multiple variants of albums I didn’t care for. Just to support the guy. But I can’t buy this. It’s dreadful. People keep telling me, keep listening to it, it will grow on you. I’ve listened to it 7 times front to back on tidal. With each subsequent listen, I can’t wait for it to finish. I can with 100% certainty say that if this was on my shelf, it would never get played. I can’t justify buying it. I can’t buy something that I think is horrible, even if I’ve loved and been attached to a artist my whole life. Makes me sad because I really seriously want to love it😥. We will hardly ever get anything new from Kiss or past members now, so I wanted this to be good. It’s just not.
I tried this album 6 x. The lyrics and Ace’s ‘singing’ are rough to say the least. Fightin’ For Life is massive, but everything else is average as best. Check out that track and skip the rest. The songs would be there with an actual singer.
"" the Steve Brown project"" is what it should have been called. I give you credit for somewhat pointing out the purple gorilla in the room,.. It doesn't sound like an actual ACE release to me. It's a good album,.. it's just not ACE'S.
I think its reasonable. Aces voice is average and some of the songs are inconsistent. But its better than most of the rubbish Kiss released post Revenge.
IMO the only decent song on the album is the opener 10,000 volts ... the rest is average at best ... i've been a Kiss fan for 50 years and to be honest this album is a stinker , when i heard 'constantly cute' i nearly puked 🤮
You know, when i first heard the new album, I didn't really care for it too much. But after giving it a few more listens, I can say I hate the piece of shit.
I don't see why anyone would drop $15 on this, when a month of premium Spotify is $10. The keys to a virtual record store, or a sloppy boring cash grab by a guy who still thinks it's 1983.
Ok you clearly don’t like that album so of course you wouldn’t pay for something you don’t like. But if you have to ask why some fans would rather have a physical copy over streaming, then you’ll never understand the beauty of physical media. I do both. 👍
This is not a good album , in fact some songs are absolutely dreadful. Fighting For Life is easily the best thing on here followed by the instrumental Stratosphere. 10,000 Volts is also pretty decent but that's where it ends for me. Cherry Medicine , Constantly Cute and Back Into My Arms Again are awful and the rest just sounds like filler. A hugely disappointing release from Ace , I was hoping for much better.
Honestly, Ace is not getting any younger and his appeal is fairly "selective." I think it was a prudent move, both artistically and commercially, to go out on a limb and try a different approach.
It doesn't sound like an Ace Frehley album because he doesn't play much on it...he sings a lot...which doesn't make much sense because he's a horrible singer!
@@inmyhouse11It’s all just personal opinion. I’ve listened to it 7 times on tidal. Sonically it sounds fine, but the album itself as a whole is dreadful. But if you like it, great 👍. I’ve been a fan for 40 years and this is the first Ace release I can’t buy.
Ace wants/needs a writing partner again I think. Remember, he had Tod Howarth in Frehley's Comet. Looking for some catchy, poppy stuff for a possible hit. Whatever Hit means anymore.
It’s an Ace Frehley album, so I knew what I was getting: something fun and goofy. However, this album had less goofy for me, and I have a great deal of fun with it. I’d rather have all of his albums sound this way. Brown did a great job with this. A complete album for me!
I've really been enjoying this so far. To me it's the best he's done in many years.
Great review Brendon. I like this album. Interestingly, for me the 1st 4 songs are really good & sound like typical Ace. Just shows that we all hear things differently. The cover is really well done.
Yeah I don’t know what he’s talking about. The title track is great. Cherry Medicine is weak.
My expectations were low, but I am really enjoying this album. Fun songs, good hooks. I hope Steve Brown comes back for the next one.
A little backstory on Into my arms again. He actually wrote it in the 80s and had a demo for it but never recorded it until now.
Thank you for your honest review and for sharing your thoughts with us.👍🤘👍

Really interested in this one, been getting into Kiss as of late having grown up with my dad loving them, so this timing is really great!
Really enjoying this one! Probably my 3rd favorite of his, behind the 78 Solo and debut Frehley’s Comet albums. Production is great and sounds crisp.
Cheers.
Solid review. Nice job! My favorite Ace records are the ones that embrace Space Ace persona.
Overall a good Ace album, 7/10. Standout tracks for me: 10,000 Volts, Cosmic Heart, Back Into My Arms Again, Fightin’ For Life, Up In The Sky.
I agree with your standouts. Those are mine too!
Good review Brendon 👍
It grabbed me right off the bat. The flanger effect to kick off the album is bad ass. I think the producer did a great job with aces vocals. Put a lot of life into old Ace. He’s my favorite Kiss member so all good. Hope he does some live shows around us. He’s a fun act.
This is the first Ace Frehley album that I've bought and I bought it just because of Steve Brown's involvement. It's a pretty good album. 😎👍
I like it. Well produced
The albums amazing and I love it. ❤
I agree with what you’re saying. I like it, but not as much as the previous albums. With more listens I’ll probably like it more.
Thank you for pronouncing "Frehley" correctly!
Yeah if I hear “Freely” I’m out…
After a good listen now I can say confidently it's a great album. Doesn't have much standouts, maybe 3 at most but it's, for me personally such a great listen all the way through.
This has shocked me lol

Thanks for the kind words & your take on 10,000 Volts 🤟🏼⚡️ Cheers to all the fans
It’s a great record. Now it’s time for a new Tokyo Motor Fist album!
Great video ace review now there won't be anymore kiss music .thanks for review brendon would be good for ace to bring out a live album 😊
A live album? I absolutely love Ace but from the videos I've seen lately a live album wouldn't be a good idea.
Nice 👍 job Brendon. Good day to you 👍💯
Congratulations on 20,000 subs!
Thank you Scott!
Thanks for the review, Brendon!
I really enjoy this album. Mick Mars also released a terrific solo album on the exact same day. I find myself listening to Ace's album more because it's a fun party. Feel good music with nice hooks.
Agree!!
Back Into My Arms Again was a Demo from 1984-85 or so. That's were the song comes from.
I guess that’s why it sounds like a cover, because it was written 40 years ago.
This is a very good sounding and played album. Ace's vocals are really the only thing holding this album back from being a great album. I agree, enough of the space and electricity stuff. You got shocked on stage, we've heard the story, move on.
Spot on review.
I love it ! Rock on !

Nice to see someone mentioning Frank Marino as one of the better guitarists out there.
Top 3 Ace Frehley Albums.
‘78 Solo
Frehley’s Comet
10,000 Volts (Great Job Ace & Steve Brown!)
yes i need that album i have the rest of his Studio albums ACE
Awesome album!
I like it. It's a fun album.
It sounds like all Ace to me. I love the whole album. 9/10 is my score of album .
I've yet to buy the album. I will be seeing him live in March, though.
That shirt brings back memories, I had it back in '98.
i have that same shirt probably over twenty years old!
Up In The Sky will catch on as an awesome song. Love the album.
There are 4 tracks on this album that I really really like
Anomaly was a masterpiece. This new album has some great songs. Stratosphere, Fighting for life, Life of a stranger, Cosmic heart is very good.
Not feeling all of it yet, but I find Ace for me sometimes takes a few listens. Nice review.
Great review. I am a huge KISS fan but have been waiting on buying this one to see what the review show. The lyrics on a few of the singles have been very cheesy and the songs are so basic. Doesn’t make me think of a typical Ace album. Will probably pick it up but I’m not in a rush

What type of shelves are those with your cd’s on them?
They’re custom. I designed them and had them built when I did a recent renovation of my house.
There's been a lot of criticism of his live playing lately. Be interesting to see if a new album brings the best out of him
lol... Kiss had like 6 or 7 "Final Farewell Tours" ... heheh.. although i'm a bigger Mean Gene fan... Ace certainly did his part... classic metal band... gotta love them.
I went to the store today to get it....but it wasn't there 😔
Sorry you weren’t able to get it. But at the same time that means the new album is selling which is good for Ace.
@@BrendonSnyder That's true, that's a positive way of looking at it.
I really think Ace did an excellent album. About 6-7 really good songs. I can do without "Constantly Cute." I gave it a listen and it didn’t do anything for me. Sounds like a pop rock album.
Nice G&L!!!
There's an amateurish aspect to it (lyrics & singing) combined with a technically advanced musical aspect that keeps my attention more than it would if it were another artist, especially a new artist on the scene. I'll always love Ace and like you said, it's just a good rock album.
His vocal doesn't sound right for the music
Rock Candy did a great remastered version of "Trouble Walking."
Its ok.What kills it Aces voice. He nees hire a singer and just play.
I just think these songs weren’t meant for Ace’s voice. But for me I want to hear his voice. I didn’t like it during Frehley’s Comet when he had a signer.

Mick Mars
Ace,s vocals are shot in my opinion. I would love to see him get s permanet vocalists. Maybe tod howarth on vocals from the old frehleys comet era

So I loved 87 FC
Second Sighting it’s ok
Trouble Walkin’ best (besides 78 of course)
Anomaly really good
Space Invader love it
Spaceman it’s ok
This album disappointing
a few decent songs my favs
10,000 Volts
Cosmic Heart
Fightin’ For Life
Up In The Sky
Cherry Medicine, and Constantly Cute are juvenile and cringy
So 5-6/10 for me I thought Spaceman was a bit disappointing
10,000 Volts even more 😡
Love ace, but for me this is a good album but not great
I prefer the first few songs...then as album continues it drops off
I like the record but I feel like its a steve brown record more than Ace's. Any interview Ace gave before the release he doesn't even knows who played on it.
This is commercial radio friendly a lot of Bon Jovi hooks I wonder if Desmond Child had his prints in the songs .
No as I said it was co-written, co-produced, and played on by Steve Brown.
Steve Brown solo album featuring Ace Frehley.

It doesn't sound like an Ace Frehley album because he doesn't play much on it...he sings a lot...which doesn't make much sense because he's a horrible singer!
It's kinda lame and I'm not sure he's really playing on it. Recent live footage looks really bad!!!
😕 P R O M O S M
What does that mean?
Kiss is horrible sorry.
Piss sucks
Paula and Eugenia..sucks!!
50 years says you’re in the minority
@@Starman2112ofKings just good musical taste.
This isn't Kiss
This Ace Frehley is different I think the album sucks
Hearing auto tune on aces voice is unnerving. I like the riffs and melodies but his vocals and lyrics spoil the whole thing. 😢
Horrible album. Does not hold a candle to Anomaly
Anomaly, Space Invader, and Spaceman are superior albums. But that’s because they are classic Ace.
@@BrendonSnyder agreed..need more songs like Sister, Space Bear and Mission to Mars and for God’s sake let the drummer loose!
The leading album for the worst of 2024. Absolutely terrible from start to finish
Music is subjective so I won't destroy you for making such a ludicrous comment
Yeah it’s not good
@@aovermontbring it on and destroy. Glad i dont have your ears and seriously thought this album was good.
Sorry, but I don't like your review. You talk like you are a pro making music, but I don't think so.
Sorry I can’t appease you bro!
Ace wants/needs a writing partner again I think. Remember, he had Tod Howarth in Frehley's Comet. Looking for some catchy, poppy stuff for a possible hit. Whatever Hit means anymore.
The album should of been called 10 volts...Weak & Lacks Soul...Very disappointing
Every review I watch you coment the same thing, we get it, you dont like it
So what you're saying is 80's music is dead.
