There is no shame in crying as a man. The man in the video with the brilliant guitar solo named Brian May cried for Freddie too. The other two from the band too. Male and female fans cried for Freddie. He is still very much missed today.

It's not really a farewell song, they did a few more songs after this. But he was really really sick at this point and could barely stand up when recording it. Brian wrote it about what Freddie was going throgh. They weren't sure if he was able to sing but Freddie just went "I'll fucking do it, darling" and then as you can hear just killed it. To me he did his best vocals here. He sounds so amazing. This is my favorite Queen song ❤❤❤

@@HOgG623 The Great Pretender is def not a farewell song. For one thing he recorded it in 1988 and 2nd, it's not even his song, it's a cover. The Platters made it originally. It has nothing to do with farewell.

"Mother Love" will tear your heart out. Freddie was dying and terribly fragile, yet he managed to belt the top notes. He died before they could finish the recording, so Brian May sings the last verse. Heartbreaking. You might also like the Queen movie "Bohemian Rhapsody". It's brilliant.

After all he is right I don't want to live forever it's like punishment. I would like to see my children growing up and grandchildren, but who knows how long I will be here so I'm grateful for my life, but innuendo reminds me some things about me " surrender your ego be free" I keep trying.
I love Innuendo that song is fantastic ! And it fits all eras we will always follow greed,traditions, superstitions, false religions and blind man (I don't want to mention racism I don't know if that's allowed to say).
I don't know if they were aware of what they had wrote, because in nowadays I doubt, that people can put that into songs without offending something.

Only who I can listen to is lady gaga not because she chose her name after radio gaga and has respect for queen she has unique voice and know how to play piano writing her songs and this girl is actually very ill she suffers from intensive joint pain and has to have injections.
Also I know is Mark MARTEL his voice sounds so much like Freddie, but I have to get a couple seconds to remember Adam lambert.
My knowledge about nowadays singers is horrible, but I don't care, because back in the days bands were making music.
Thank God Bon jovi is still alive he is my number 2 and I have seen him few times.
All these bands we like are decades old and people still listening to them. They music will remain, but I doubt that same with nowadays called music .

Just because it might be the most impresive what he can do it is not per se the best. He for instance can't convey emotion with his voice as good as Roger Waters can, or pulll of one of Axl Rose incredibly high or extremely low notes. Sure it is impressive what he can do but not the best.
Freddie sang this in one take. He was dying. Amazing.
He had a slow, agonizing death, in the house Mary Austin had bought for him. All treatments failed, he knew death was approaching and drew closer and closer. But amazingly, he could sing almost to the end.
Apparently, Freddie couldn't stand for very long at that point in his illness so he took a shot of vodka, did the lyrics and nailed them in 1 single take!!! This is probably one of his best (of many) vocal performances, especially considering how ill he was. What a Rock GOD!

the opening of each door was a look back on his life and better times than he was going through,poor guy was very sick at the time but still smashed every song,this song reminds me so much of my uncle who died 7 years ago of cancer,he was a massive queen fan had this played at his funeral i shed a tear every time i hear this song

Nice respectful reaction! This song is like a farewell song from the band to Freddie. Brian May wrote most of the song. It was something they had to accept and come to terms with. Freddie was already very sick at this point, he struggled to stand for very long. This was a difficult song to record. They had their fights and disagreements at times, but they were also very close for over 20 years. And from the perspective of the rest of the band they were mostly in their early 40's. A big part of their career was really coming to an end. For 20 years, they had created music, they toured and their music was always on the charts. With Freddie's death that routine drastically changed.
So it is basically like losing a friend and your career at the same time. This is about accepting death and coming to terms with the realities. You can put in a lot of effort for one last time, but ultimately it will not change what is about to happen.
This song is one of the most heartbreaking and yet amazing songs ever written. Your reaction has more than done it justice. Well done sir.
This video was made from past video clips as Freddie was just months from the end. Brian (guitarist) wrote this specifically for Freddie and what he was going through. It was not their final song, however.

It is very emotional! Don't be afraid to show emotion! Freddie was and AMAZING man, singer, performer... his death was tragic but his life was phenomenal!
This song off the Innuendo album was recorded sometime during 1990 which was 2-3 years into Freddy's fight with aids (he was diagnosed with aids in 1987). So incredible he was able to sing with such power and emotion. A beautifully written song for him by his good friend Brian May. RIP Freddy, miss you.

The most emotional was the song made after Freddie's death. Only the Good Die Young. John Deacon could barely hold his guitar, and at the end of the song, that was the end of his performances.

Just going through some of your older reactions, saw you liked Queen so I sought out this one as it is my favorite song to cry to. LOL If I just need a private emotional release away from the world I put this song on and it gets me every time because of the triumph inside the sadness, it is so impactful in a way that just grows deeper for me with age. I first heard this in my late teens and it hit me hard, but now in my 40s it hits me even harder, its like with age and understanding of the world and how truly beautiful and unique and therefore precious some things are, the more your emotions just get overwhelmed by songs like this. Masterwork. Totally. Glad you liked it too. :)

Yep, they recorded a bunch of songs when his health was failing, many of which were released on the Made in Heaven album that was released a few years after his death.

The song gets me choked up and teary eyed everytime I hear it. He didn't want anyone's pity he didn't want to be anybody's poster child he just wanted to make music right up to the end and he did. And as I recall he didn't even publicly announced that he had it until the day before he died. Eric Carr the second drummer for kiss also died on the same day Freddie Mercury did but because Freddie was so famous Eric really didn't get any press about it
Thanks for the great review. Freddie couldn’t even walk at this time when Brian May asked him to do this song, but he took a swig of vodka and said he would do it. Absolute talent and total dedication ! "The show must go on" is a phrase used in show business which means no matter what happens the important thing is to give the audience the show they came for. in other words, the performance is more important than the performer.
It's totally understandable to get emotional over this song. Freddie was an amazing talent, the kind that does not come around often. He knew his end was near and yet he still worked to do the best possible performance he could. It's also sad to think of the music he never got to perform if he had lived another 30+ years.
His real last song was "mother love" ....

According to Brian May, the guitarist, he gave his real farewell to the fans in "These are the days of our lives", when he didn't sing, but speak the 2nd "I still love you" at the end of the song.

I get it, but never be ashamed to shed a tear when music touches you. That is why the artist makes it, to touch you and make you remember you're not alone.
The farewell song was “These are the Days of our Lives”, This song is about Freddie continuing to make music when he was suffering from AIDS.

I really like your reactions. So honest and asking questions...there is no one like Queen today..except Queen +AL. Brian and Roger have still been performing all these years. Both have done solo albums and they still tour playing the music they composed when Freddie was still with them. John retired in 1997..it wasn't the same for him without Freddie.
I love that you discovered Queen and that you love their music! It’s hard not to, they are just brilliant, and their talent is unsurpassed, imo. This was the last song in play order on the last Queen album released prior to Freddie’s death 😔. Although Freddie was horribly ill and suffering from AIDS, Brian and Roger have said many times that Freddie just wanted to continue to do music “until the day I f…g die.” So, they continued. You can see just how ill Freddie was at the time in the video “These Are The Days of Our Lives” (which I believe was the last video Freddie made) and definitely get out the Kleenex for that one. Queen usually never explains what their songs mean, as they want the listener to have their own meaning of it. But, I think that it is pretty obvious that it is, in a way, Freddie and Queen saying that no matter what, no matter the hardship “The Show Must Go On.” It is amazing the vocal range and ability he is able to do in this recording, particularly with how ill he was (apparently he did it in one take, or so the rumor goes, but Freddie was just that good, so I’ll choose to believe that.) The song has a lot of deep personal meaning to me, as I think it does to a lot of people. I also think it relates to how Freddie and the other members of Queen had to hide and lie about Freddie having AIDS, as at that time, he would have been shunned and feared (little children with AIDS, were treated absolutely horribly with death threats and being banished from their schools in the US!) and so they all protected Freddie, “inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be flaking, but my smile…still stays on.” I think some of it is a powerful anthem to proceed despite hardships, while also lamenting and feeling angry about having to pretend and ‘put on a face’ to those around you. But again, Queen leaves music up to the listener as to what it means. To others, it may mean something totally different. Regardless, it is a beautiful sort of “good bye but I’ll always be with you” from Freddie, and just an amazing song overall. RIP Freddie.
When he said the show must go on, he meant that even though he's dying from his illness, he still has to keep that stage persona on. He still has to continue making music to keep on living.
This song is a fully open window into the soul and the perfection of the lyrics and everything is breathtaking.
I recommend to watch the movie moulin rouge, where the author used this song in the plot of the movie in an equally stunning way.

Watch the "I Want to Break Free" video to understand opening the door, and see them all dressed in drag (as a parody of a British sitcom). A lot of their lyrics are very deep, and it's good the music is so great it can carry us beyond our confusion & fear. People have listed a lot of great songs for you, but "Innuendo" (single) is a complex one that is also deeply emotional. Watch the lyric video first and then the music video - so you have a chance of relating to it at all. Innuendo is the last album produced by collaboration when Freddie was still alive. He kept recording vocals which were put together with music for the album Made In Heaven, released in 1995. He was unable to finish recording "Mother Love" (ONLY watch the lyric video first) so you'll hear Brian sing the last verse. Talk about emotional! You can wait a while to get to that one... Contrary to what most people think this is not Freddie's goodbye song. That was on the previous album The Miracle, called "Was it all worth it?" They didn't think Freddie would survive to make another album.
The show must go on was written by Brian and it was Brian May saying goodbye to his dear friend. This is the apex of Freddie's voice, on his deathbed practically that voice, those pipes were strong and in tune. His best vocal performance in my opinion.

The thing about this is,it was probably the most vocally stressful song he had to do-and he did it at his lowest ebb,health-wise,when he apparently could barely stand up.

As others say this is not the last... the very last song he recorded was Mother Love which he didn’t complete the last verse and Brian sang that. Heart wrenching ... possibly the most difficult one to listen to is No One But You. However you really shouldn’t be at this point yet... so much more to explore ... oh!!!! He didn’t make it public that he had aids until a day before he died , only close friends and family knew and even they were not formally told after the diagnosis in April 1987. By 1989 it was almost impossible to hide what was happening to him . This song was recorded by Freddie in late 1990 ... he died 24 the Nov 1991.
I was a little girl when he died...this was my favourite song hands down and I love queen! The emotion it evokes is just something else!
You have to follow the reign of Queen to understand the whole of this video. This was written as a farewell song, he was dying , unable to make a long video, but made recordings until the day before he passed. The man and group are legendary, the likes of which we will never be seen or hear again.
It was the single released shortly before his death, the video got major airplay on MTV etc. after his death. It was out on album months earlier, but of course felt quite a bit different after his death. While there were rumours about Freddie's declining health, he was shielded from the public, and fans - like me - while listening to the songs on the album "Innuendo" heard him sing the words didn't want our fears to become true. And after the album came out, we just enjoyed the new Queen songs, while the band was working on whatever they still could in Montreux, Switzerland. They did very few new videos during the days of "Innuendo". The first single released (Innuendo) was artwork combined with old footage (beautiful video, still!), "I'm going slightly mad" was a new video, so was "Headlong". "I can't live with you" was older/newer footage clipped together, "These are the days of our lives" was the last new video Freddie was able to film. (Don't watch the behind the scenes footage if you don't want to cry.)

I had Some form of regression or PTSD after Freddie died. In 91 I was 15. Two of my cousins were murdered within a year of each other. It was horrible. They wouldn’t let me go to the funerals. I think my grandma had to be sedated..Cut to 2019, I’m watching “Bohemian Rhapsody “ and crying like a baby. Everything I knew and loved about queen just came flooding back. I had to remourn Freddie all over again

The first song I was dancing to was Radio Ga Ga as three years old kid. I still remember when I was nine years old when my mother came from work with her face covered in tears and told me Freddie died.

when you know the true context of the moment when this was recorded, it is quite a powerful song, like listening to Johnny Cash, 'Hurt' knowing it was in last months of his life.

Queen did not interpret their songs. They believed that the listener will interpret their music in their own way, the way it touches their heart. I believe the "show" is not only literal but is also a reference to life itself and how each of us keep our "show" going.
Adam Lambert said that this is the hardest song to sing from Queen. He’s their front man now. Freddie was deceased by the time this video came out so the clips of Freddie opening the door is showing their past.
I was lucky enough to be able to visit Freddy's house in Zanzibar in 2005 when my husband and I were on our honeymoon. It truly reflected who he was. An experience I will never forget 💕
