It's weird how we Indian know most of these absurd English words, because vocabulary is really emphasized part of our curriculum & every competitive exam we write, we have to read newspaper editorials.
So these words weren't a big deal to us.
yehh absolutely.. i am surprised to see that my vocab is better than native Americans 😂
Most people in academia read a lot, so generally problems with vocabulary are less common. Common people do struggle a lot though..
Dhruv Rathi out of nowhere... didn't expect this.

There’s more people in the world with an Indian English accent than any other English accent. It’s time people stop laughing at it. It’s a real thing and we’re proud of having it.
PS there’s no ‘right way’ to pro-nounce things anyway since it depends on which country you come from and what your accent is.
Edit: I agree that there is not one Indian English accent either but many which also holds true for a lot of English speaking countries.
@@dexterdruboanimations-6403 Actual English accent? And what is that? American? British? Austrlian.
@@dexterdruboanimations-6403 have you looked at history? Bro languages change as time passes and the land where it passes. Indians just have their way of speaking English without putting so much effort into a stupid accent. Yeah we don't care about original accent. We find our accent easier and more down to earth than the UK one- I'll be honest it feels very sophisticated but somewhat restricting.
@@dexterdruboanimations-6403 different part of the world you will find different accents of English that's why indian can have its own accent.
so even Hindi can be pronounced anyway haha
Be proud of literacy rate also?

Me: Pronunced correctly but Jaby's confident made me second guess myself.

To be honest our English might sound funny outside India but we really do know a lot of words every school going Indian kid has definitely owned at least 1 dictionary in their school days…Steph was surprised that Dhruv knew meaning of those words but actually many of those words are quite commonly used here
Uhh well as an indian kid who goes in a fully English medium school... i have to disagree 😂
Speak for yourself brother, i can't relate with you at all.
I've learnt english mostly from movies and TV shows.
Indian accent is clear not like American and British bshisseierodjjshsuwieber
@@ReligioCritic obviously will defer from region to region but owning a dictionary during childhood is quite common in where i live...but ofcourse no one sits and read the whole thing we all learn from interacting with frnds and movies...but dictionaries did used to be quite handy in my childhood days atleast when internet was not common...
@@petal9202 I agree ....we were all given a small oxfort dictionary when we were in 4 std in school.
Don't know how accurate other scripts are but here in India we use Devnagri script for Hindi and Sanskrit(and a few other lang) and one can be super sure of pronouncing a word correctly if it's written in devnagri even if the person has encountered it for the very first time.... hence we always keep good pronunciation in high regard but it's better we realize that it's not possible with English and stop shaming people for mispronouncing English words.
@Anurag Kaushish One needs to develop understanding to get the fine difference between 'श' and 'ष'.
@@Samudra121
जब ′श′ का उच्चार करते है तब वह बिना दातों को मिलाए (अलग रखकर) किया जाता है, वही 'ष' का उच्चार दातों को मिलाकर किया जा सकता है।
देवनागरी है ही इतनी बढ़िया की गलत उच्चारण का सवाल ही पैदा नहीं होता।
At the end of the day - english can be pronounced with various accents and what we should know - no accent is wrong as long as you speak the language clearly, and the other person can understand it. That's it.
You don't need to have a British accent or American accent or Australian etc.
Just be yourself my fellow Indians. Speak confidently, pronounce well and enunciate clearly. That's all that matters ✨
I think Indian people know more English words and their meanings than the English themselves because of our Education system. It's just we pro-noun-ce them differently.
Ya.. because indian learn english words by studying and English people learn english words by listening people around them..
I wear my accent as a badge of my identity. It represents where I am from and more importantly it represents how i don't conform to Others. We made English our own.
It's okay to adapt too. Let's just be honest, south Indians and North Indians have their own heavy English accents and I'd change the way i speak for their convenience. The same applies for other English accents. I feel Indians have an issue with adapting(they're not alone) , not because they're proud of the way they speak, but simply because they don't want to.
Apocryphal is not necessarily negative. For instance, it can be used to describe legends from ancient texts that are potentially real events and not myths, or perceived as such.
12:39 this reaction is definitely going to become a meme 😂

To clear things to people arguing about accents, many words have been given pronunciations based on the defined literary rules of English. While the enunciations can change, the rules generally should NOT be changed to adhere to the linguistic framework. Accents just generally define the different enunciations and stresses depending on regions. It's not just English, it's any language tbh.
Eg. You can say "panacea" as a little stretched out or delayed, but never as "panache".
it just depends on what becomes famous . americans have butchered not only the pronunciation but also the spellings in english but because it became famous as american english so it is what it is you just need to confidently speak

The difference is because pronunciation is akin to enunciation, to speak in certain clear way and pronounce is akin to announce, to say it aloud, even as both do come from same latin root word.
right!!
Jaby do not react to any political influencer videos intentionally, specially if he is not even from India, am saying this from both end right wing or left wing, one side will get triggered and they will fight or get upset in the comment section. Majority people of India voted for Modi twice. We are not dumb or blind to chose anyone to maintain our country twice for no reason. Lots of left and right wing news channel and influencers exists in India. Additionally we do not want a German citizen to lecture us or repeatedly biasedly criticize our govt on every step. Lastly am not asking you to react to ring wing influencer, am just telling not to get into political stuffs and not to react to any political influencers. JUST GOOGLE IT! In 2019 BJP/MODI received 37.36percent of the vote, the highest vote share by a political party since the 1989 general election, and won 303 seats, further increasing its substantial majority. In addition, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance won 353 seats, isn't it's crystal clear that majority voters want modi to be thr PM twice, that is why he is the pm since 2014.
This is the most sensible comment I have seen on this video !
Jaby, don't fall in a trap. Avoid these people please.

Guys Indian English is a thing.. many people pronounce sword phonetically as "sword", not "saurd"
Also epitome is another common Indianization: "eh-pi-tohm", not "eh-pit-uh-mee"
[ICSE student] I knew the pronunciation of knell, puerile, camaraderie, nadir, clingy, sword (saurd), southern, heinous, apocryphal, panacea, isle, salmon, hegemony, debauch, epitome (eh-PIT-uh-mee), inchoate, cerulean, Worcestershire (Wor-ster-shuhr; like Gloucester, Leicester)

To me as long as you get in the ballpark of a majority agreed pronunciation on any word you're okay in the books for me. When it comes to English it's all over the place like Pronounce and Pronunciation so a little leeway should always be given and no one should be an elitist. When you laughed at the way he pounced sword i laughed at your ignorance
The Queen's English (not to be confused with British English) or a variant of the Queen's English is the main type of English that Indians learn ........hence his pronunciation of sword is correct...but it might be wrong in terms of American English.
