Josh. I took my Technician exam yesterday, 3/14/24. I want to thank you for these videos. With my work schedule, I don't have time to put my nose in the books as much as needed. I put these videos on replay and listen to them while I work. I scored a perfect score yesterday, all thanks to you! I'm starting on this series now. If I'm not ready in the next month for the exam, September will be my next opportunity. Thank you again! Dan Jardine (no call sign yet).

Same here. I wish he had a series on General like he did for the Technician. That was very helpful. Congratulations

Great observation Josh about what in my words is the conundrum (the Catch-22) of the test: You are being tested on things that are kind of hard to understand without DOING or experiencing them - yet you are asked to answer them from only READING about them. The ARRL study guide feels like more of an overall text to understanding radio at the General level which you can return to again and again - which is great, but so much of working at this level is really absorbed by doing. I prefer Gordo's books which are more focused on helping you pass the test. Minimal effective information driven and targeted at the questions itself. The ARRL book seems to go beyond the test which is great, but for a focused Study Guide I like Gordo (amended with your videos and Hamstudy). It is what it is and it's great that there are so many aids out to help wannabe Generals. I have the ARRL book, but it gathers more dust than Gordo's. There's my two cents, maybe it's only worth one. Love your work Josh. THANKS!

It's fun to watch this guy get wasted. Some good info along the way, too. Learning a bit about inductors today was cool; especially parallel with & right angles to (and angles between maybe?). He's a helpful guy with a great personality.

Hey guys sorry I missed class last night. Wife was at bunko and I got into a Netflix "Lost in Space" marithon - totally slacked. Catching up this morning. Josh beautiful radio, I'm so jealous. But I got the sneek peek yesterday. It's like I read your mind, ha ha.. First electrical question - I noted you had a question mark on your sheet. First use E = I x R or 400 volts / 800 ohms gives you 0.5 amps. Then plug it into the Pie chart. P = I x E or 0.5 amps x 400 volts gives you the answer. I don't use that squared technique as it is hard to remember. 73's

Yeah, that is a better technique. I will use that.

Nothing a couple of black eyes can't fix. Then sheda been truly lost in space. Had she been in the kitchen she wouldn't have drawn you out of your persuits, thus introducing a potential for failure.
One fist x two strikes = two black eyes. The mathematical harmony is there, indicating it's the right thing to do..
      1 x 2 = 2..

Does the technician license allow voice transmissions on 10 meter, or do I need to get the general license? Thanks for your help I've watched your videos and I find them informative and de-stressing cause tests freak me out. Anyway thanks again

    Ugh this is a mess.
The arrl handbook doesn’t explain anything about what log is or where it comes from or how to use it.
It’s also throwing crazy stuff at you like transformer winding symbols like Es Ep Ns Np four at a time and expecting you to remember what that is and how to calculate with it and all the correct ways to user the operands.
If I don’t get my general license, this will be why. The books are leaving out lots of explanations and throwing things in out of nowhere. I can’t be expected to understand that stuff.
I go search several videos on “log” operations on UA-cam and none of that makes sense either. Or the transformer wiring symbols I will never remember that kind of stuff and I’ve been building electronic devices for 30 years. Despite wanting to get my EE degree, I now realize I would have failed right here.
Why I’m the world would anyone use I instead of C for current. E instead of V for voltage P instead of W for watts.
Just to confuse you for fun? Totally pointless. Why not call them what they are? Would sure alleviate a TON of confusion. It’s done throughout the whole electronics section like that. Instead of saying “primary winding” they say Np and you are expected to remember that.
I would have thrown a fit and quit college.
Like I said I’ve been building and designing electronic circuits for 30 years and none of the above is necessary. Totally upsetting.
The licensing process has lost its fun when they start doing stuff like this for no reason.
Technician class was fun! General is not.
    PSS
The arrl handbook didn’t take the time to write out the actual answers to the equations.. it rounded them all off so all the answers are wrong!
I can’t believe they would do that without showing their rounding off in their work! Makes the answers look wrong! What the heck is going on here. If I’m going to pass general, it will be done by memory.

honestly I’m thinking uhf/vhf is fine for me anyway. All I need ham for is emergencies if I get stuck or lost or hurt while I’m in the back woods fishing and camping. I’m not an extremely talkative person. Much better at writing.

    • @PepperandCaseysRV
      @PepperandCaseysRV 3 роки тому

I think I know the problem.
The ARRL book is the problem. The first one worked fine. Little rough, but I got it. The second one is leaving things out to the point that I’m not understanding them.
I’ll have to try another way to learn this.

Keep in mind. You’re only going to get like two questions from each section. You’re not going to blow the whole test by missing a “log” question.
Are you talking about log as in logarithmic? Or ham radio station log? 😬
