I had 35+ years as an independent MB repair shop owner and I remember the struggle to get parts, service information, and techs. Now, on my 4th Tesla (yes, I need therapeutics!), the future is clear. I applaud your foresight and I agree with you that the future mechanic will be highly sought after as well as well compensated. Keep up the good work.
👍
I'm a recovering ice mechanic and I agree with everything you said. that's why I've ordered a cybertruck and invested only in Tesla.
You and you shop are a perfect example of the brave new world of auto repair .I would only hope you become the first Authorized independant Tesla repair facility as it appears you have earned that ability and are doing that task impeccably.
I am just so glade to live to be able experience the tecnical and cultural change to something I have dedicated decades of my life learning seviceing
using and loving its massive modern ice complexity, but all things must change, and I'm excited to own aTesla.
I test drove a model y performance with self driving.
In that test drive I realized this was the most capable car I've ever driven , and it hardly made a sound doing it, I thought of all the fuel injectors and throttle plates and piston rings and main bearings and dial indicators in micrometers engine scopes the smoke machines and on and on just passed through my mind disappearing into my past and I was driving my future.
The use of those tools will not be lost or not used Again by me but I won't be tied to it or depended on it or continually worry about internal engine wear , oil changes, block heaters or pre oilers ...except with my Kubota 😁.
Keep on redefinining what is automotive service 👍
Just like EV manufacturers, legacy OEMs or new OEMs, have to utilize workers with electronic and software skills, the new EV repair shops will have to do the same. Glad to see someone that is blazing the path that many others will need to also follow/create. Seems as if the new manufacturers didn't quite figure the repair aspect into their master plans very well and only went down to the "assembly replacement" level much like the IT industry has done for years. This revolution has made amazing changes to the automotive industry. As more of the EVs exit their warranty periods more and more EV repair facilities will be needed since the standard legacy automotive repair facilities will not be able to easily or cheaply transition due to lack of skillsets and electronic/software tools.
Bravo Gruber Motors for leading the way in yet another new industry as the EV revolution continues to quicken its pace.
I fully agree. Mr Gruber is very smart, prospective customers are going to feel comfortable when they walk to the door and see that his facility is expansive, fully equipped, state of the art, and on top of things. He's properly posturing himself and his business to meet the demands of the future.
I'd love to work there. I started my career back in the 80s repairing circuit boards at the component level with scopes and meters.
I have been talking to my peers in the audio/video/lighting service trade to take a look at the EV repairs as we have the analytic skills needed to find faults on electronics and software levels for some time now. Sofar none of my friends have caught on. If I was younger and lived in the states I would definitely seek a job with you. I find it intriguing and aplaude your work!
You're right on. The demand is high for service shops and techs that know and can repair electric cars. Thank you, sir.
So glad I live in the Phoenix area, close to Gruber. It makes the anxiety of owning an older, out-of-warranty Tesla almost zero!
I have watched a couple of your videos now, and I have got to say your business definitely has some of the best insight into the future of EVs and the repair infrastructure that will be required for them. As someone who is currently getting into the automotive enthusiast community, I have always wondered how "mechanic shops" would look for EVs, and this certainly answered many of my questions there. Keep up the informative content, and I hope the future of EVs are filled with companies as resourceful and straightforward as you and your company seem to be.
Spot on! Great to see Gruber is ahead of the curve in how to service the EV's in the future. Glad to see there is an alternative to using the very high cost Tesla service center for repairs!
I’m 19 years old and been questioning the value of studying for my business degree. I think I might have woken up to a new path in life. Thank you so much!
What's the relationship between mechanic and business degree
Great job guys. what you develop shows that passionate people can overcome any harsh circumstances and prevail and deliver beyond expectations.Good on you all.
Gruber is a pioneer for a better future! Grüße aus Deutschland!
Love all your videos! If you do ever decide to expand, consider San Diego. We're a big market with an amazing amount of teslas on the road, with a bunch of skilled engineers/technicians. When the first model 3s come off warranty there's going to be an explosion in EV service needs, getting a second location running before then would be huge.
Definite upgrade in video production quality. Not as charming as the previous handheld, informal, shaky camera footage. But your previous videos had me sharing them and coming back for more. Thanks for the information.
When are you going to open a location on the East Coast? Please expand. We need better EV service options.
Check out electrified garage.
I would buy an older Model S in a New York Minute if there was a facility like Gruber in the Raleigh, NC area.
Good video .. In the UK there is a shortage of these futuristic vehicle repair shops ,
think I wanna move to America , you are embracing this change to electric in a more pragmatic way .
Always the case. UK is always reactive rather than innovative which is why we lose all/most of our talented people to mainland Europe, Asia and USA
@@thomasswainson2047 Skateboarding is a classic example . I here what you are saying . It's like Britain has been turned into a fascist dictatorship politicized by inept people .
I wondered for a couple of years how this would work out. You have done a great job in explaining this. Thank you.
Wish I was younger. Sounds like a cool job
how young does one need to be?
Thank you for doing component level repairs! Live long and prosper!
Yes indeed.. it is the very near future top career... ☝️😎☝️😎
Great video! I would love to learn more about the variety of job positions that exist at a company like this and hear about what set of skills they require, as well as see what types of tasks they are challenged with.
Looks like a cool place to work.
Great model for a company today! And also great calm and very informative youtube content. Love it! Greetings from switzerland
We still love our classics, I imagine there with be a tsunami of folks converting these once the infrastructure is ready.
As a 25yr master technician with diagnostic and hybrid/electric light duty specialist certification I can tell you this new industry change requires more skills the No dealership will pay more for. The industry doesn't want to pay for qualified high level technicians! There is no money left in car business and no incentive for the new generation most of which car less about working on cars. This just isn't my view but it's the view of my engineers at the Lexus training center. Flare rate system that will also have to change to a high salary to interest anyone.
I work in the northeast in high volume shop and I know large amounts of auto techs who hate there job due to these issues.
Moin aus Schleswig-Holstein.. 👋
Super was ihr bisher geschafft habt.
The future is electric. 🔌🔋🚗👍
Great job and you have inspired me to level up my education
I would like to transition to EVs.
I'm still restoring old cars pre 75 ish. Very cool sometimes but I want to put electric in all of them lol.
Boss won't have a bar of it.
That's amazing. I have a few ideas drawn up
Very informative video , thank you!
I teach metal in auto shop in a New Jersey high school. Back in 2008 I saw the change from gas to electric on the horizon. So I switch my program from a traditional auto shop basic maintenance high school program, pre-engineering research and Design program.
To prove this in 2009 we built our first conversion vehicle from gasoline to Electric. It was a 1990 rabbit and we replace the engine with an electric motor speed controller and batteries.
I agree that the every day tech will have a hard time transitioning but I also think that dealers will just do like BMW and have a link to some diagnostic headquarter and they will determine what to replace and have the tech just replace the module or wiring harness or both. This will just make techs parts replacement jockeys.
I agree with you 💯 👍
I want to work for Gruber Motors now. That is bada$$.
Great jobs great video
Time to open a shop in Europe.
Imagine that here in Africa we don't yet have enough skilled mechanics able to repair even an automatic transmission.
It would be dreaming if we started thinking about having EV shops. Not gonna happen in this century
We must start working on that problem. It will happen in Africa this decade.
Faustin, if you have the VEHICLES, it will happen in any country... except the Emirates, where a prince will get a brand new vehicle, when a windshield cracks.
Great video
What schools and/or websites are recommended for the educational requirements?
I am from India and currently studying computer hardware engineering with Ev engineering .... But sometime feel demotivated
Your analysis is good as far as it goes. But taking it further, if the techs with the skillet to diagnose to the component level are scarce, and for other reliability/liability issues, I suggest the only feasible repairs become module replacement. Further, if the company determines there is a faulty module and doesn't want anyone but them doing the repair, they will simply brick the entire car. So rather than a broad distributed network of highly skilled electronic auto techs as you envision, there could just as likely be a highly centralized, small cadre of desk jockeys monitoring and running diagnostics remotely when issues arise, ready to tell the vehicle lessee to return the car and upgrade to the newer model. Given Tesla's track record and the mindset of VW and BMW, I fear the latter is more likely.
Hello good job
This makes me want to go back to college to get an electrical engineering degree and an automotive tech degree.
Looks like a good idea. Very innovative and productive.
Hopefully your high productivity will not be taxed so highly that your efforts support only the unproductive rather than growing your idea. So skip California with its 13% marginal tax rate penalizing productive people.
I will continue with ICE and hybrid for the foreseeable future. These are the types I now own and can avoid the 10% sales tax. Well maintained, they last decades. And I only have a few left before the 40% inheritance tax hits. Good luck.
would expect that module / cb repair shops to grow like in the computer server mkt
I would like to see more of this !
I’m a mechanic of the future. I own a shop that service hybrid and electric cars. I’m a regular car mechanic but has great knowledge of electronics. I even repair car computers and even Televisions lol😂. I’m familiar with electronic circuits. As far as writing codes I can only write simple C programming though. But I think I’m good enough to fix a Tesla which I include in my shops service vehicles. Most problem with circuit boards are usually not too hard. Occasionally though a microprocessor would fail and that is a big headache but for the most parts bad capacitor bad solder connection. Most failure of components are either due to poor circuit design or defective components that is just, waiting to fail. Having an schematic is a big help. Being able to look at a circuit and understand it’s functionality is a plus. You don’t really have to be an electronic or electrical engineer to service a Tesla. Most of the skills required is more of an electronic technician. They are the ones who are more skilled at pinpointing a bad component or any problem in a circuit.
We spend a lot of time reverse engineering, identifying components and sources, and creating schematics and documenting test points. This information is not readily shared by any OEM.
@@grubermotorcompany aweseome seem like a lot of work.
@@grubermotorcompany How do you reverse engineer the circuit board? Most modern circuit boards have at least 3 or even 4 layers, and they are extremely complex
We to upgrade the power grid first then focus on evs
Excellent
Future never looked so boring and empty
Agree but Hybrid car expensive so future is not depend electronic cars
I'm curious as to how fast the ice vehicle will be getting off the road. I can see the rapid growth in the EV market, and understand the 2035 transition for certain states and automotive companies. I foresee a tremendous amount of (growing) pain as society makes these changes.
I predict that the transition to EVs will be slowed in the future not by a shortage of batteries or vehicles, but rather by a shortage of technicians that can work at independent repair shops for out-of-warranty vehicles. It's harder to justify switching when you can't just take your car to a shop to get repaired.
Looks like Jessie from breaking bad 🤟
I'm all for advancing technology, but reality is a stubborn thing. EV's are about 2% of the fleet currently (pun). ICE cars will be sold for next 5-10 years. Those will be in service for another 10 years. For older techs like myself, I'm good. HOWEVER, I agree with the point of the video. If you are young, looking for a sustainable career, this is the future.
How can I get into this field. Am a you mechanic but I know time is changing and I wanna be ahead of the game. EV it’s where it’s at now and just like distributor and coborater combustion engines are slowly dying. I just need a program or a place to start
04:15 are those images from Romania?
So, what is the typical per hour rate for fixing a Tesla? Sounds like some problems are going to require very skilled (expensive?) personnel to make computer/electronic diagnosis and repair. ICE vehicles have many of the same issues now, minus the higher voltage power stuff.
Labor rates are from $65 to $165 per hour dependent on mechanical vs electronic. We typically run 20% - 30% less than Tesla
So basically let me know when you start franchising!
What the future going to look like with everyone plugging these things in every night? What's that going to do to the grid?
All cars pollute. The IC engine will never go away. Electric cars never worked and they were around forever
Good thing I have 10 years to work on normal cars
Any franchising opportunity to take this out of the us ...please let me know
how to reverse engineer these vehicles?
So what’s with the sunglasses?
Your audio is no good. Other than that nice video
Can i have a job
Boy this guy is very disconnected from the automotive industry if he thinks that the current techs lack the skills needed to work on ev
Spend a day in our shop, and the skill deficiencies will reveal themselves quickly.
maja nahi aya
Don’t let this clown scare you guys 😂 mechanics the good ones will evolve. Their will be plenty of work on these battery cars. Yes there will be shops like his that repair stuff just theres shops that rebuild things today. There will also be customers and shops that will just change the whole part that’s defective. Tools will evolve and so will techs this guy is clueless. If you can do electrical diagnostics today you can do it in the future I assure you. What’s hard about hooking up a scanner and tapping into a module looking at its data to find a bad cell? I look at these cars every day when they come in and there’s plenty of work to be done on these battery cars beside what he’s showing in his over complicated videos.
agreed. his roundabout talk is annoying. the same steps mechanics are taking today will be the same steps they will take tomorrow. funny to see all the dorks praise this fluff talk video
@@rhyenvi a good tech is never scared of change and should constantly be educating themselves
They are already opening up eVTOL dealerships.I am calling mine Vertisales & Vertiservice LLC.Soon electric cars will be obsolete.
