Using a regular (non-fine) strainer or colander to catch the big bits before using the cheesecloth/fine mesh strainer can cut down on the straining process time.
Yet another great recipe. Look forward to trying this one out. So enjoy your recipe show. Easy to follow and you have such a positive attitude and nice smile. Sometimes before I go to sleep, will watch one of your videos. Great way to end day!
tysvm matt, i needed this!!! i have 20lbs of apples to peel & wanted to do somethin with the peel & cores.. if i get 1 cup of cider i be happy.. i make apple cinnamon bread and if i buy cider its "processed"
Matt, this looks so easy and I would have never thought to add the red hots or the oranges. I wonder tho, if I were to try this, do you think it could be made in the Instant Pot pressure cooker? If so, I wonder what the cook time would be. Thank you so much for sharing.
Yes you could do it in the Instant Pot! But will probably need to scale down the recipe a little, depending on the size of your pot. I would set it to high pressure for 20 minutes. Then let it depressurize on its own for 10 minutes. Then release the valve. Then add the sweetener and mash it. Then strain it. :)
I did not add the orange rind as I planned on keeping the pulp / solids in the beverage. I don't like to waste and the pulp added an extra element to the beverage.
I found that if you soak peeled and sliced apples for apple pie and soak them over night in cranberry apple juice. Then the next day I drain my apple's really well, at least a half an hour. Use the apple's to make a pie and I heat the juice up and if it is to strong I add some water. I use red hots also in the juice while soaking the apples. I eat the candy left over 🤣😂🤣
It will be mentioned in the recipe or if it is something like a spice or any flavorings that is always optional. But if you want to make it exactly like the person showing the recipe, then don't leave any ingredients out, use the exact ones and the exact amounts. It will also come with practice as you cook more.
No amount of cyanide is good. :) With that said it is still highly unlikely you will get cyanide poisoning if you do happen to put the seeds in with the apples.

Sure you can do it that way if desired, then you are straining it twice. And have to use more kitchen tools.
@@inthekitchenwithmattI'm fine with more tools, it's just faster for me because I want cider as soon as possible! :)
My dad loved applesauce made with a few red hots in it. I had not thought about that in years. Thanks for the recipe and the memory! Take care.
You are very welcome!! :)
Ok, that looks so yummy!
Thank you! :)

Nice!!
What are red hots? Candy red hot? Cinnamon red hot? I was going to make it but I’m not sure what’s the Red hots are. New to baking. Are they a spice?
Candy red hots :) They have a cinnamon flavor. They are optional though.

Awesome!!
How do I know if an ingredient or a step in a recipe is required or optional?

seeds are good in moderation.
