I wish people would stop moaning about "poor sound quality" on these old radio plays. Quite a few of them would have been recoded (Illegally) off the radio. We all used to do it. But the sound quality is then affected by the quality of the radio it was taped from and the quality of the tape recorder used for taping. It's a miracle we can still get the chance to hear these plays at all, they were only intended for one, possibly two broadcasts and the originals often got recorded over by the BBC to save money. Listen or don't listen but don't grizzle about the sound quality.

Very entertaining. Thank you.
Recommend wearing headphones. In the style of Ealing comedies with an eccentric jolly drunkard investigator and his earnest sidekick, clashing personalities with the stern police

I love these Richard Mace stories. More please!!
Period drama with sound that's brilliant match by bbc to the Period of the time . A very good story. The horses hooves sound perfect well in time on the cobbles like only the BBC can do. In the time when the BBC broadcast to the world. Shame to see BBC world brand
trashed in modern times.
the BBC still broadcasts to the world....the World Service is alive and well.
Trained actors with coconut shells...it's a lost art...

I love stories from this era
Thankyou
Loud background hum throughout. Poor listening. Probably a good story .
There was another radio drama set in this time period with the same Richard Mace & Roundtree characters, but I can't remember the title.
There are quite a few, but the only one I can bring to mind is called The Nemesis Machine.
@@JavertRA the other is Pegasus. All three are related to the Doctor Who story 'The Visitation', in which Mace also features.
Sad about the poor sound but I stuck it out as I love anything set in Ripper times.
Cheese with ham - good fun 👍
You back? Cool.
Voices very muffled. Poor sound quality. Left after couple of minutes. Sounds like a good drama. Shame.
Persevered ... tried again & listened until the end. Mobile close to my ear ! My hearing is excellent so it is a technical problem. Good drama. Thanks
This was recorded 50 years ago! Be grateful that we can listen to it at all, smh
