True. I was a child when this happened, and it's ingrained in my memory as a major event. Conan in Finland was an absolute mindfuck to a 6 year old me.
There are several reasons why people in Finland have sort of a connection with the USA, and here are some: Finnish is a language spoken by only some 5,5 million people, and therefore movies are not dubbed; it would be too expensive for small audiences. TV shows have subtitles. To be able to follow what is going on in the world Finns practically need to learn a world language, which is English. As the level of education is high, the language barrier is low. It is way easier for the Finns to be connected with anything American than with anything French, German, Italian or Spanish, making us in a way more connected with the US than with many European countries that are much closer neighbours. Moreover, it is fairly popular for High School kids to spend a year abroad as a foreign exchange student, and again the language makes the US a common choice of destination. Therefore there are quite a lot of Finns that have actually some first hand knowledge of the American culture. This is maybe not as common now, but to give some perspective, back in 1978 from my class of 30 pupils 5 went to the US for a year. My two daughters have now done the same and so has my sister. So it is not only that the Finns follow random American TV shows, quite a lot of us have a genuine interest and some knowledge of the country as well.
I'm not sure if this qualifies as another reason, but there are 650 000 Finnish Americans, most of them living in Minnesota and Michigan. That's a large number compared the current population of Finland (less than 10 times that). It's almost as many as people with Finnish heritage living in Sweden. Most of their ancestors migrated between late 19th century and mid-20th century. US officials even planned to evacuate the whole Finnish population in Operation Alaska during both the WInter War and Continuation War. I'm glad they didn't need to put that plan into action. Well, these facts are not something most Finns tend to think about if they even know about them. However, with this background it's no wonder why Finns think fondly of the USA.
I spent 10 days in Finland in March1980. Brilliant place. Visited Helsinki, Hyvinkaa and Lahti then back to Helsinki. It was freezing but brilliant The girls were beautiful, the beer expensive. liquor controlled by the state, only possible to be bought at State run "Alko" shops. The BEST holiday I've ever had. Super good video Sarah.
I remember this, the reaction to Conan was completely genuine, a friend of mine composed a song for Conan and even I thought about going to see him. Finns have a good sense of humor, so someone coming to see us as a joke is a joke a Finn wants to be a part of. Also back then people didn't really notice us anywhere.
Also other points as I'm watching: - Dipping into cold water straight from hot sauna is pretty invigorating. It's good for the blood flow but usually people do it because the experience is enjoyable. - The apartment Conan visited is pretty standard in Finland. Only we tend to remove shoes inside the home, Conan just walked straight in. We live in one or two bedroom apartments usually, even houses are not that big. - Telvis is a real award and the plack is colored by the TV color recalibration screen that used to come out when all the programming ended at night. It is a nostalgic image that is heavily associated to TV, at least it was back then. Youth nowadays, they know nothing. - The program is pretty much scripted but the people are not. They've just been told to come there and do something, all the weird stuff they do or say is just them being them. Finns don't do small talk so that's why Conan is getting a bit odd responses. - In Finland it's not that uncommon to see the current president walking his dog or meet president Halonen having lunch in local restaurants. Of course they have security details, but not like US, our presidents feel safe and live pretty ordinary lives. Our president Niinistö made somewhat headlines by sitting on the stairs in a book fair because he came in bit late and all the seats were taken. Nobody didn't even get up and give their place because we are supposed to be equal. President is an important figure but they're still seen as servants of the people. - And yes, that is the national anthem of Finland. Fun fact, it is basically also the national anthem of Estonia as well! Not the exact same, but very close. - Finland is not Scandinavian, it's a Nordic country. It's a peninsula thing, we are not on the right side of desired plot.
@@sagamaraia I think it was 1999 or 2000 when I rode my bike and Sauli just shot right in front of me while roller skating. I had no helmet, tore my jeans and had quite a bad asphalt rash on my knees. He was kind to me and was apologizing but what was running through my head was "I hope this old faggot burns in hell". I went home and my mom and dad asked me wtf happened to me. I told them what happened (I didn't know who Sauli was back then so I just said some old guy crashed onto me). . Later we watched tv and Sauli was on the news. I told my folks that's the guy who crashed at me and my father said something along the lines "He has been promoting roller skating like hell and acts like a mad man. Never vote a guy like that". And I never did
i remember watching conan in finnish tv as a kid, i was born in 2000. the show always aired in the "evening prime time" and alot of people watched it, it was for sure very popular here.
it's so sad that we didn't see him any more after the Tonight Show fiasco. I forgot about him for years until I found him again from youtube and later his podcasts.
I remember this. None of that was scripted to look like that, those were actual TV shows etc. His show was aired daily for years on a popular TV channel for some reason, around 6pm I think in a time before UA-cam and streaming. It's not like he was a huge celebrity but Finnish people have a good sense of humour and will get on a joke and show up if we get mentioned globally.
Finnish horde is certainly a thing, and i am part of it. Once a week or so i search "Finland" on YT, and boom, i usually see some new random low subscriber channels commenting something about Finland. Finland is a tiny country, and we are very excited about any attention.
Very little of this is scripted. It's planned, like where they are doing the bits and so forth, but as in most Conan remotes, it's just him going crazy on real situations, because that's always the funnier than any scripted thing.
This propably gets lots of views from Finland as youtube randomly suggests this more to Finns like me. I was already forgotten this Conan visit, but yes he was huge in Finland for a long while. Didn´t remember much more than meeting our President at that time.
Australian here. I thought I'd watched all of Conan's visits videos (South Korea, Greenland, Australia, etc.) Glad I found a new one to watch. Love Conan's suit when he meets the President. Very James Bond villian.
Yup, this was probably the first one, and because it's so old it's been kinda forgotten. The rest of the actual without borders episodes came much later.
Conan was very popular at the time. Finland was a place that was just starting to become known to the world. Even a little. There was already Nokia and other things, but most people thought that they also came from Japan. We've never known how to brand ourselves. In Sweden, on the other hand, they already had ABBA, Ikea, matches and meatballs in our neighbour. And they even almost stole our sauna. Finland was not really mentioned anywhere and when it was mentioned it became a big deal. We were noticed. Although Renny Harlin, as a Finn, had introduced Finnish things into his films, Finland was not mentioned very often in films and we did not have big stars in the entertainment world. Even in sports, our international stars were mostly ice hockey players or racing drivers. In those days, Finland began to be found abroad as well, and Conan hit the right moment. After all these twists and turns, now the Y and Z generations are coming and it's much easier for them to go out into the world and be proud of where they come from. A certain shame of being Finnish has disappeared. But we are still curious about what others think of us, and that's why everything related to Finland or Finnishness interests us and gets a lot of hits, for example, on UA-cam.
I like your searching attitude. Let me help you: Leena's apartment looks like a typical 1970's 2-room + kitchen appartment. This is normal, but on the old and cheap side. Country side totally different, but that was omitted from the show. You see only a bit of Helsinki, suburb, and the tourist stuff of Rovaniemi. Real forest country side, living almost off grid etc is still a thing. Small villages have their own look and culture. I was sick for 6 years and would know about every 2nd car that passed my house. 26:39 not a school, but backstage corridor of the MTV3 studios. How did Conan get to meet the president? Easy: We are not at war with half the world, don't put people on too high a pedestal, and simply: Tarja was one of the most common, less formal people to be President. Sauli is a bit harder to approach. The president of the USA would draw a crowd here, but the not so secret service would keep him far away from the crowd.
Some of the native Finns share 1-2% Native American and/or Inuit genes. A Native American sweat lodge is quite similar to Finnish saunas. Also Sámi goathis resembles tipis. The biggest difference between these things is that in Finland they have typically been permanent structures.
Excellent work, Sarah! Finland's Patriotic Songs is about to hit 400,000 views, and I fully expect similar numbers for this one. Finland is a Nordic country like Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland. The song at the end was the national anthem which you remembered correctly. Conan did meet Santa in the Santa Claus Village in Lapland; it just wasn't in this. You did a video about the best Christmas destinations in the world, and it won by a landslide. Yes, cruise ferries also run in winter when there's ice. Icebreakers clear a passage for them. When you open my package, you're going to see more pictures of Silja Line, Viking Line and Finnair.
@@CristinaMarshal That's a commendable attitude. If you don't mind watching another UA-cam video, I'd suggest "Finland a story of silence and snow". I'm afraid good, English speaking videos are thin on the ground.
@@Waldorf73 Oh I thank you for that recommendation - I shall remind myself to keep a watchful eye out for it. I speak Swedish to a degree - of course, I know Finnish one of those languages away from the three major groups in Europe.
Finland is logistically an island, so it's important to keep the seaways open. There are always multiple icebreaker ships docked in Katajannokka, Helsinki in the summer. I'm not an expert on the topic but regular ships can plow through some amount of ice as well, depending on the ship.
Next goal: watch the Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations episode where he travels to Finland. It is a bit raunchier and alcohol is involved, but I enjoy it.
I think it was terrible. It gives a very wrong picture of Finland. Finns heavy drinkers? No! Watch the statistics in the video " country alcohol consumption comparison." In Europe Finland's alcohol consumption is in the middle even under. The highest alcohol consumption countries in Europe are: The 1st Moldova, the 2 nd Lithuania, the 3rd Chechia and the 4th Germany. Forinstance Russia Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, France,Ireland, UK, Estonia, Latvia Hungary, Luxemburg, Poland, Portugal, Belarus, Cypros, Serbia, Andorra, Slovakia Slovenia, Romania etc. are ahead of Finland.
You should visit finland too. been watching you but have not seen patriotic songs yet. Hope the best for you in what ever you do, you level headed beast. Have a good one!
He was really really popular here in Finland.. And Finnish media pretty much covered everything, he did during his week in Finland.. and least all those interviews, in those morning programs and Emma Gaala and people in airport did happen for real ..
Funny thing is that above the sinking ship picture and Conan asking: "Does this happen daily here", above in the sheet it says Joka Päivä = Daily. It could be just from cutting of the convo tho.
Also the morning shows he visited were real too, though they were heavily edited in these clips to humorous effects; you can find one of the full interviews from youtube by searchin "Conan obrien huomenta suomi" :D
Hi Sarah! I thought your reaction was fintastic. The Baltic Sea is not the only body of water that freezes. All rivers and lakes also freeze. Sometimes the ice is so thick a car or truck can drive on it. Did that happen to you last year when you had that ice storm? Maybe you were able to take Scarlett for a walk on the frozen Mississippi River? What a sight that would have been. Soaking in cold water after a sauna has many health benefits. Not to mention it feels good. You don't feel the cold the same way when your body is that hot. Taking a dip in the water relaxes and lowers blood pressure. In winter, you can alternatively throw yourself into a pile of snow. It's important to quickly go back to the sauna afterwards. Like the man said, Telvis Awards are the Finnish Emmys. Looking at it, Conan was awarded the "Vuoden väriläiskä" prize which means "Colour Splash of the Year". It's a very real thing, and that year no-one else could realistically have won it. I don't think much of this was scripted as such, but of course all these events were carefully organized for him and his entourage. You can rent a snowmobile in Lapland and ride it into the sunset. They even let Hyundai owners drive them. You're not the first person to notice similarities berween the Sámi people and native Americans. I shouldn't really be surprised given your native American name Tiny Hands and the fact that you also play the drums. If you'd like to know more about the Santa Claus Village, I can request a good video when the next round of requests comes up. Just say the word. I set aside a few suitable videos for this exact purpose some time ago. This Tennessean pair visited the village for the first time. They came from Chattanooga. Don't worry, they didn't completely ruin the reputation of your home state. A short clip of Conan meeting Santa in his Head Office in Rovaniemi, Finland: ua-cam.com/video/ozPvk03dwOU/v-deo.html
That was great! Before seeing this, I vaguely remembered something about Conan O'Brien and Finland from back then, but I had no idea that he actually affected the outcome of their presidential election.
Well, not so sure he actually did affect it. Btw, Tarja Halonen ran against the current president Sauli Niinistö, who became the president in 2012 after she was no longer qualified for office due to the limit of two consecutive terms. The current president will leave office in 2024 due to the same limit.
Conan? I kept seeing the late Robin Williams. Over here on TV they sometimes show Slow Telly. It's about 3 hours of some quiet occupation or journey happening in real time. It's very relaxing. One of them showed the Sami reindeer herders driving a bunch of them across the snows of northern Finland. They had captions to give information an to explain incidents, it was quite brilliant. I don't think it would be suitable as a posting, but there might be something available which shows their fascinating lifestyles. . The Baltic sea often freezes, whereas along the coast if Norway it doesn't. Couple of reasons. The sea along Norway has the remnants of the gulf stream ( North Atlantic Drift) to prevent it freezing, the Baltic sea is fresher water, as it's enclosed and the river outflows keep it well topped up with fresh water,. It freezes at a higher T° than the saltier oceans. I might be doing your countrymen an injustice, but I think you are one of the exceptional Americans, who have a curiosity about the world beyond the oceans. A lot seem to be content with what their own vast lands gave to offer. It's meant as a personal compliment rather than a criticism.
Thing about the two boys interviewing Conan is that they were part of Finnish TV-show Huuma(based on British TV-show _Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway_ ).
@@Waldorf73 🤣Perfect pronunciation, but the sentence he says doesn't make any sense🤣 He says: """It is important that we get an idea of the people but it is not impossible that one of two Mondays and Tuesdays"""🤣🤣🤣
Finland is not geographically necessarily part of Scandinavia (debatable), but most certainly culturally. That's because our long and very close relationship with Sweden (once part of them). Even our second official language is Swedish.
Conan at Helsinki-Vantaa airport in Finland, all those people there, it was not staged. Conan really was somewhat a phenomenon at the time in Finland. I regularly watched Late Night, it was so good.
Conan has later admitted he was nervous before meeting president Halonen. It was, after all, his first meeting with a Head of State. Probably still is. One could also say he was equally nervous before meeting Santa Claus. In the short clip I provided in an earlier post, he admits having been a very naughty boy. 🌍✈
Fun fact about that meeting: We cannot hear it on this footage but president Halonen says in the beginning that there were more reporters there on that meeting than state visits. :)
Keeping inmind that this video is almost 20 years old it of course isn't that average looking place to live now but that looked like pretty average studen'ts home from the early 2000's. Finland is a very modern country, would even say one of the most modern countries nowadays.
Well SoGal, I've been watching three weeks after you published this, and in that time you have achieved 18,000 views and (with a click from me) you have reached 918 likes. There clearly is a silent Finnish majority on UA-cam; I wonder when (if) they might get you to your goal... Would you like to visit Finland one day? There is an episode of the comedy series "Little Britain" in which a character notorious for changing his mind insists on taking a holiday to Helsinki, but as the plane is taking off declares that he wants to go to Florida instead. Make of it what you will!
You get so many views, because Finnish people like to see how people get things wrong about us and then we laugh. After we laugh we go get drunk and fight. Then we forget we watched the video, and we watch it again, at least a few times over.
size of that apartment is kinda normal if you live alone. I think somewhere from 20 to 50m2 is normal one bedroom apartment. But decor differs much, there are apartments from 1960 to this day with original decorations. But I guess almost all has 1990-2023 decoration, depends when the building was constructed and who lived in apartments. Highly depends if that apartment is municipal rental place or owner-occupied flat.
Hi, Sarah, I must admit I've never heard of Conan O'brien, he can't be very big here in the UK but that was entertaining. That sounded like a national anthem but I don't actually know. If you want to do something on Finnish music I'd suggest something by Sibelius, the Korelia Suite has some good videos on You Tube.
About Finnish apartments, and homes generally. One thing that usually make a big difference is of person owns the place or if it is rented. Two appartmenst side by side can be completely different depending of the ownership. Also in Finland you don't pay property tax of primary resident. No school tax either. When I lived in Finland I saw both side of the coin. At least all the ownded appartments and houses where well organized and clear, where as rental properties varied depending person who lived there. This appartment presented most likely rental property although we lived short time also in rental apartment and that was more of the upper end of the scale and was guite nice and organized. At least in Canada we have seen many places about similar, so I think it is not necessary much different in Western world and depends of the personality of people and some about income. We now own our house in Canada and the main floor looks about same as similar in Finland. One thin though is that houses are better built in Finland.
35:11 It's called a "luohti", every animal has its own luohti and people can be given their own luohti but it's rare these days. The act ot performing a luohti is called "juoigat", or in English it's "yoiking". It can be either just the "tune" or it can have vocalizations like this man did, it can also have words but they are usually freestyled and include a description of the animal or person. For people, a luohti is a way of remembering that person, keeping them in people's thoughts. For anyone interested, one common yoik is the wolfs yoik, I recommend Inga Juuso's rendition "Gumpe". Search for "Inga Juuso - Gumpe"
When it comes with the Sami and Native Americans, is because there was a story from my Karelian aunty told me. These events was around the last ice age: There was two tribes in the ancient Karelia. Both tribes lived in peace and both of them went up north for better hunting grounds. Then one day, the tribes had an argument and one of the tribes left, travelled to the Canada coast. They became the Native Americans. The other tribe who stayed behind, became the Sami.
Thank you wery many! Nothing was "staged"🤔🤩Guess what band and from which country has the most amount of "reactions"/ "reactors" in Ytube?! Well, that shows the Finnish mentality and humor, Conan meeting our President. And the "mad man" doing crazy stuff. But anyhow, "Happiest Country in the World" 5th time on a row now. That is why we have more Metal Bands in Finland than any other Country in the World (relatively to the population) and 3,3-3,5 Million Saunas. Santa Village in Rovaniemi is open year round, but check the opening and closing hours beforehand, cause it is not like "Disneyland". Welcome to Finland, let`s eat some Rudolf (the RedNose) meat!!🤩😍
This really shows how much humor, pranks, and laughter is appreciated in Finland. You need a sense of humor there in every profession - and your jokes must be focussed on making fun of yourself to hit home. And now to serious geographical matters of definitions - you see, after the latest Ice Age, there emerged those sturdy mountains of what is now northern Europe. Many thousands a years ago, there was the empty Scandian peninsula in the middle, the swamps, lakes and small islands to the east, and a volcanic island in the Northern Atlantic to wast, but nobody there to name them or claim them. By and by people came to hunt to these regions and nobody knows what they actually spoke (maybe proto-Indoeuropean?). There namely were no countries, yet, and so all names have been invented afterwards - long afterwards. Ancestors of today's Danes, Swedes (including Finns), Icelanders by and by settled these areas. Not until some one thousand years ago (very rougly speaking) the first embryos of the kingdoms of Sweden and Denmark were constructed through many battles among small chieftains - a bloody history, indeed. They started to use the letters called runes, so we know that dialects of a language now called Norse were widely used. Nobody speaks or writes it anymore in real life. Modern languages and dialects have evolved from this base and all of them use the Latin alphabet. So Scandinavia is the geographical area, like the Mediterranean region, or the West Indies, i.e. Scandinavia has never been a name of a nation (country). It is a gegraphical region, where the Scandic mountain-range is the backbone - and where three countries are situated, and where the modern day Denmark, Norway, and Sweden have the shared political power. All three of them are kingdoms, within their 100+ years old political borders. Together with the two neighboring countries these three also belong, politically, to the Nordic countries. To the west we have Iceland on its volcanic island, and to the east: Finland, formerly a part of Sweden (and for about an interlude of a hundred years, it was a part of the Russian Empire). Finland is typically a land of thousands of lakes and islands. The countries Iceland and Finland are both independent republics and have presidents of their own. All Nordic countries belong geographically to Europe. All of them are capitalist, parlamentaric democracies, with elected parliaments, governments, and strict rule of law - there are no political dictatorships nor economic socialist systems. There can be a few stateowned state-owned companies and enterprices, like nuclear power plants alongside companies on the private market. The Nordic countries are famous for they high standard of living, and ways to guarantee all citizens a decent livelihood all through their lives. Their flags show a cross, indicating their Christian foundation, based on the New Testament in the Bible, and therefore Jesus' words about loving your fellow human beings like your equals and as free and valuable persons in the eyes of God. Few Nordic people are very religious today, but the equality and humanity have remained central values. Think about it! Hope you like the explanation! Thanks for a fun reaction video!

Finns have a good sense of humor, so someone coming to see us as a joke is a joke a Finn wants to be a part of. Also back then people didn't really notice us anywhere.
Also other points as I'm watching:
- Dipping into cold water straight from hot sauna is pretty invigorating.
Was it 2006? I thought it was a few years ago. Time flyis after 30...
And I never did
He was not the president at the time but I think he was like vice prime minister to Lipponen or such?
@@Jappe132 Who he? Conan? Conan came to Finland back then because our female president presumably looked like him.
i remember watching conan in finnish tv as a kid, i was born in 2000. the show always aired in the "evening prime time" and alot of people watched it, it was for sure very popular here.
Everyone needs to know and remember and this Conan video is 20 years old, but its 100% real and we still love Conan!
it's so sad that we didn't see him any more after the Tonight Show fiasco. I forgot about him for years until I found him again from youtube and later his podcasts.
there is a reason the finland videos blow up
I have been to Finland a few times in the summer. It’s really
nice and warm there during July/August.
OMG! Less than 20 years and everything looks so old world.
I remember this. None of that was scripted to look like that, those were actual TV shows etc. His show was aired daily for years on a popular TV channel for some reason, around 6pm I think in a time before UA-cam and streaming. It's not like he was a huge celebrity but Finnish people have a good sense of humour and will get on a joke and show up if we get mentioned globally.
yup, reactions of people were of course genuine but I'm sure a lot was edited out of the the more awkward bits
That Conan's visit to our country is so epic! Every Finn loves his humor etc. Unfortunately he came here in wintertime.
As an American Finn I love his sense of humor also, we might be slightly sarcastic? 👋😏
@@bradt8019 sarcasm is built-in feature of Finns :)
Australian here. I thought I'd watched all of Conan's visits videos (South Korea, Greenland, Australia, etc.) Glad I found a new one to watch. Love Conan's suit when he meets the President. Very James Bond villian.
This was his first visit. It all started from here. 😄
Yup, this was probably the first one, and because it's so old it's been kinda forgotten. The rest of the actual without borders episodes came much later.
01:20 Finland is definitely a cool place. Cooler then most places in fact.
As I remember, the airport scene wasn't staged, there was just a small advert about Conan arriving, and quite a lot news coverage.
Let me help you:
Leena's apartment looks like a typical 1970's 2-room + kitchen appartment.
You have excellent tastes might I add.
@@CristinaMarshal Thanks, Joanie! Since you're also a patron, I can say the same about you. 😄
@@Waldorf73 How kind - I must say, I am very interested in Finnish culture, especially their History; I wondered if you knew any good places to start?
Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮🇺🇸
The ice swimming is supposed to cool you down to be able to be in sauna longer. Also it releases stress and giving you a fresh feeling
Next goal: watch the Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations episode where he travels to Finland. It is a bit raunchier and alcohol is involved, but I enjoy it.
Yes! That was a great episode
I think it was terrible. It gives a very wrong picture of Finland. Finns heavy drinkers? No!
Watch the statistics in the video " country alcohol consumption comparison."
In Europe Finland's alcohol consumption is in the middle even under.
The highest alcohol consumption countries in Europe are: The 1st Moldova, the 2 nd Lithuania, the 3rd Chechia and the 4th Germany.
Forinstance Russia Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, France,Ireland, UK, Estonia, Latvia Hungary, Luxemburg, Poland, Portugal, Belarus, Cypros, Serbia, Andorra, Slovakia Slovenia, Romania etc. are ahead of Finland.
It's thanks to finnish people that we got the Conan without borders thing, kiitos
You should visit finland too. been watching you but have not seen patriotic songs yet. Hope the best for you in what ever you do, you level headed beast. Have a good one!
That was a huge event in Finland. I remember watching with my dad the whole thing back in the day
You cannot make so many Finnish to fake excitiment. They say the Swedish funerals are happier than Finnish weddings.
I watched this video twice to give UA-cam's algorithm the ride of its life 🤓
Ohh this makes me feel old, as I can clearly remember this happening :D
"it happened just couple years ago....." 👵👴
SoGal is our go-to for curiosity, sweet demeanor, and a cute auburn haircut!
We are sneaky 😊. Hello from finland ❤ Conan is the best 😊 .Watched his show much when i was young. Conan can visit me anytime he is finland 😊
@6:26 this definitely wasn't staged :D A 16-year old me was there at the airport with my friend: it was a huge deal here when he visited us ^^
Also the morning shows he visited were real too, though they were heavily edited in these clips to humorous effects; you can find one of the full interviews from youtube by searchin "Conan obrien huomenta suomi" :D
I love your channel keep up the great stuff
I rememb that visit, im sure all of that was very spontanious not scripted.
Welcome to Finland you too! 😄
A short clip of Conan meeting Santa in his Head Office in Rovaniemi, Finland:

Ice swimming has many health befenits including reducing stress and anxiety, lowers your blood pressure and helps with muscle aches and such.
Ice Hole swimming is healthy and feels great. As does sauna.
Finland: cradle of great and glorious rally drivers of the world👍👍👍
Pedro, how do you rate Conan's Spanish at 26:11?
@@Waldorf73 🤣Perfect pronunciation, but the sentence he says doesn't make any sense🤣
He says:
"""It is important that we get an idea of the people but it is not impossible that one of two Mondays and Tuesdays"""🤣🤣🤣
The Santa village is fun IF your in to it. Open all year. I'll pass it next Saturday, have a peek simply to get coffee on route.
I'd probably be into it :)
@@SoGal_YT I'll See If I can shoot some footage
That apartment (where 26 y old woman live) look more like small 1 room stundent apartment than actually apartement.
Torille! yeah us finns really like to watch foreigners react/talk about us :D
Airport greet is totally legit 😂 we only knew when conan is coming
I remember when this happenened. Almost none of it was staged, but a lot of people certainly were in on the joke.
None of that was scripted. Here in Finland we are just very exited to get any attention.
Telvis is a thing. Not scripted much in this video.
Well, show hosts cannot usually meet the president so easily, but this is Conan!
Keeping inmind that this video is almost 20 years old it of course isn't that average looking place to live now but that looked like pretty average studen'ts home from the early 2000's. Finland is a very modern country, would even say one of the most modern countries nowadays.
You should come and visit Finland. Summer time and eastern Finland. Its beautiful here 😊
Forss Fagerstrom? I remember this episode. Yikes .... way back in 2006.
Two lastnames - Forss and Fagerström!
Great vid 😆
Finland rocks
What an odd little video 😊 Have been to Finland a couple of times for work - but not to Helsinki (except to change planes). Lovely country.
its an old, yet heartwarming clip! :)
Didn't you know? Finnish people are *everywhere* in the Internet
that is so true
Well SoGal, I've been watching three weeks after you published this, and in that time you have achieved 18,000 views and (with a click from me) you have reached 918 likes. There clearly is a silent Finnish majority on UA-cam; I wonder when (if) they might get you to your goal...
Would you like to visit Finland one day? There is an episode of the comedy series "Little Britain" in which a character notorious for changing his mind insists on taking a holiday to Helsinki, but as the plane is taking off declares that he wants to go to Florida instead. Make of it what you will!
Sauna and Icebaths are very healthy.
This is the joyous repose I didn't know I needed!
The longer you spend on the internet, the likelier it becomes that at some point you will be absorbed by Finland.
He is in his own way a famous actor / comedian / writer / producer born in 1963. Regards from Scandinavia.
Yes, the song in the end was national anthem of the Finland called Maamme laulu=our country song
If you want to see Santa's village there is a live cam on you tube where you get a view of it.
Cool!
In Finland on average every 23rd man you meet is a current or past Formula 1 driver.
I had no idea about the link with F1 until all these comments, lol.
They are genuine. You just need to tell Conan is coming and perhaps tell to wellcome him. We have just that kind of sense of humour
Conan has talked about this trip in the Inside Conan podcast. There's also a quite recent episode where Tarja Halonen talks about the visit.
Secret underground Finland phenomenon..?
Oh no, I'm just from the cult. Here to watch some nostalgic Conan. ☕

It's called a "luohti", every animal has its own luohti and people can be given their own luohti but it's rare these days.
Thank you Hilarius and Conan. Fonland is very soo NATO country
When it comes with the Sami and Native Americans, is because there was a story from my Karelian aunty told me. These events was around the last ice age:
There was two tribes in the ancient Karelia. Both tribes lived in peace and both of them went up north for better hunting grounds. Then one day, the tribes had an argument and one of the tribes left, travelled to the Canada coast. They became the Native Americans. The other tribe who stayed behind, became the Sami.
Completely normal apartment she lives in :) Brought a lot of memories and nostalgia from 90's. The old TV
Norway here, this is a good way to gamble with a violent death in Finland😂😂😂 They dont take too kindly on invaders, or loud people👍👍👍
we just love watching videos about us hahah

Finland is Nordic. Or Fennoskandian.
Nice video and Conan is a lot of fun. 👍
ice baths is actually good for your immune system.
They might have been at home. But we don't 98% open doors if we don't know who is there.
Actually the crowd was not staged. I was there too at the business flight terminal
That’s cool!
Dipping in the ice cold water helps with blood circulation.
Conan is just awesome 😂
Think you can imitate going to cold dip in icy water from sauna and then back to sauna by having something like ice cream with coffee.
New video with Tennessee girl!
I'm a happy camper.
