Same here. There have been changes over the years on his farm, but he is consistent and genuine. I have much respect for Pete sticking with his beliefs, unless he finds good reasons and information for change, he doesn't do it because of a few people post something.
Great great video. We have just added 4 Dexters to our farm. We’ve been producing goats milk soap for years. But have always wanted to try cows. So this is the year. Thank you for all your advice and time in the making of these videos.
I love when you talk about butchering I'm a professional butcher I can really see you know what you're doing and it gives me great insight for direct marketing
So much to learn about beef.Maybe that’s why my brother didn’t get into to after selling the Dairy cows.Really enjoying watching and seeing the difference in farming.
Hello Pete, I want to tell you I just love your videos. I live in Pittsburgh, PA and my grandfather had a farm when I was young. Farmalls hold a special place in my heart as i grew up driving one of those along with a square bale thrower and New Holland round. Keep up the great work! I would love to have a little Farmall you use for plowing at my house, problem is, I wouldn't know how to keep up with the maintenance. Lastly, I would love for you to do some hunting videos!!!!!! Big passion of mine. Take care- Bill
Yes Pete, I am starting from the beginning and watching everyone of your videos. I do have a comment on pricing. A farmers market started up in our town and the manager sets the pricing. Everyone from the low quality to the high quality has to price their goods the same for like products. I won't sell there or buy there. I don't think that is fair for any of the producers because not all goods at a farmers market are exactly the same.
I’m still searching for Dexter beef meats for sale here in South Florida. NO @ Publix.. NO @ Western Beef.. I’m starting to check farmers markets. I’m not into farming but a great informative video. Thanks!
They are trendy, for lack of a better word. I brought all the tri-tips and skirt steaks I had to the market last weekend, and they sold in the first hour. And chuck roasts sell out before ground beef.
When I buy grass fed, I do with I knew the breed. I've had excellent grass fed beef from Uruguay, Utah, and Arizona, but I have also had gamey grass fed that was tough, origin unknown.
Where can I buy your steaks? What's the name of the farmers market you go to? We just moved to Corning New York from the Philadelphia area and have been enjoying your videos for a couple years I can't find the one from the farm market. Thanks 👍
What about the hide? Are there tanning options available and or fellow market stalls who work with leather that would be interested in your supply? Do Dexter cattle produce good hides?
Do you find that people are more willing to purchase individual cuts (like one or two steaks) rather than a package or variety of steaks? E.G. Grilling package for a BBQ weekend which would include 4 steaks, short ribs, ground beef, etc.
Hi Kassandra, yes I find this is the case. They have an exact idea of what they want to buy. We've never had much luck with bulk packs, I think because some people just won't use certain cuts.
Do you have your meat processed in a USDA facility? I don't think we have any in my area. So we pretty much have to sell beef delivered to the processor. So we can't get premium prices. So far we are the typical sell calves at auction but I'm considering raising a few head to sell to consumers. We have angus so I don't know if thats really a good idea or not.
Hi Wils, complicated question because we grow chickens, turkeys, pigs, and cattle. Peak freezer storage happens in the fall as they fill up with chicken, pork, and turkey. Since we're a pasture-based farm we draw on freezer stock through the winter for sales.
WOW most beef seller only sel by hole, haf, or quater, tha way ya do it myte be away fer me ta sell, thank ya fer tha tip an video,,,, p.s woud it werk fer pig, sheep, an goat to??
Hi Russ, there is more profit to be made in selling by the cut, if you have a market to do that. People expect a bulk price discount for halves & quarters. Cutting pork for market is different & I will do another video on that. As for sheep & goats, we don't raise them so I don't know, but I expect selling them by the cut would be more profitable.
Price it out for Pregnant women work with mid-wives because pregnant women usually lose iron rapidly. Any birthing hospitals in your area? Leave pamphlets emphasizing iron nutrition.
Going back and rewatching old videos and keeping up with all the new ones. Keep up the good work

I'd like a video on proper storage of beef to sell. What temperature, wrapping, how long you have to sell it, etc.
Thankss for the tips
I think your attitude about Sammy-burgers, is appropriate, as it will always be spoken with fondness and love for that animals sacrifice.💙🩵

Hi Pete! I'm a beginning dexter farmer in NJ- I'd like to buy a heifer from you
Looks like you have some serious storage capacity. How many do you butcher at a time?
Hi Wils, complicated question because we grow chickens, turkeys, pigs, and cattle. Peak freezer storage happens in the fall as they fill up with chicken, pork, and turkey. Since we're a pasture-based farm we draw on freezer stock through the winter for sales.

How 'thick' is 'THICK'??😜
I am writing my business plan for my farm, and Dexter all the way! No angus for me. My cattle farmer uncle is not going to like it!
Good for you Neil!
Have you considered a twenty four hour drive through window. More silly ideas to follow!
