Seeing chat have a collective aneurysm over the spoiler moment was excellent. Such despair they have never experienced. Been loving the guests on these podcasts. The breadth of GG content is great all around, and I'm on this train all the way. EDIT: Re: Skyrim: "You just get lost in this world with three voice actors." lmao
Do you mind giving a timestamp for the spoiler? Edit: Wait, I found it. Lol! He just keeps going! Poor JoCat. Why didn't Kyle or Garrett interrupt him?! Lol.
OH!!! You guys mentioned the Fight Pit House -- that was my FC in the balmung goblet! Yeah I highly recommend taking a look even just as a spectator, they're an awesome window into actual character-driven RP in ffxiv.
I still don't understand why people think Gridania is a weaker starting area when, having played all thre openening citiy strories in both English and German, I find it's doing the best and most interesting job at getting the player into the world. The first showdown with the Golem in the Tam Tara halls is set up as something that will have big consequences for everyone living in Gridania if not propperly resolved. The threat to the Guardian Tree is that but even worse and has the best cinematography of all three big battle showdowns alongside the Grand company. And as far as story goes and having an arc... Gridiana allready went through this, during 1.0 and transitioning into ARR. A lot has allready happened there and so much allready changed. And for a nation that is known to be reluctant to change, that is just the amount it needs. Obviously every person has their own expectancies, thoughts and experiences at every single point in the game; liking some characters more than others, feeling more at easy in some locations than others, having an easier time with some jobs than others... So obviously not everything works for everyone, I understand as much. But I still don't see Gridania as the weekest city state. I am so glad that I started there compared to anywhere else.
The way I like to describe FF14 is by calling it a modern day Epic, not unlike the Odyssey. There's not really anything else like it that was made in this era. Its a huge story. The only thing that kind of comes close, is telling your friend to watch all of 10 seasons of StargateSG1 three times.
Missed it live due to work. Catching up now while I wait for some nasty Tornado weather. This podcast episode is heart shaped!! Jocat is a great guest!
fun fact: catnip is a part of the mint family and has been used in the past in tea form to help with restlessness, nervousness, coughs, asthma, gas, and diarrhea. it can also be added to foods as flavoring. so would miqo'te catnip? i would say so
With Gridania I feel like there is so much potentual with it, with all the Gelmoran/Amdapor shit thats there. But we just haven’t gotten that. A good jumping off point, aside from the racism, would potentually be delving into the Gridania/Gyr Abania relations, and how the two recconcile the hanous war crimes they commited towards eachother in the past. Like sure Lyse and Kann-e might be friends but how do the average citizens feel about being buddy buddy? We got a little bit of this in the Bard questline and it is some of the most interesting Gridania lore in the game imo.
My DnD games always end up with the party somehow derailing the DM's plans in the weirdest eay possible and I've loved every minute of it. Nothing is too "campy" for DnD.

@@VioletMoonfox wasn't there some controversy with where the money ended up going to? I heard people talking about it but didn't hear anything about it besides "JOCAT FUCKED UP! HATE EM!"
I'm replaying the game cause... I skipped a lot ot dialog and cutscenes. And damn it really is a good experience :) arr is not as bad as people make it out to be
I really hope once nier automata is finished that Garrett plays Replicant. Automata is great but it is very philosophical while replicant is way more of the personal experience they were mentioning
I can describe why Hocus Pocus 2 doesn't work, and its because the original Hocus Pocus was campy humor, where the new one tries to do silly humor while the witches keep up the camp humor. The two just don't mesh right. #bringbackcamp
Oh, they always unlist the podcast vods, they edit it down and put out the actual podcast instead. (I think you can still get to it through the playlist)
AoE damage spell that stuns enemies with no cooldown. AoE damage spell that restores mana. AoE damage spell with 1240 BASE POTENCY. Surely this is the toolkit of a dps? Yes. A green dps. Edit: Skyrim, fallout 3 and fallout new vegas were all incredible games and I strongly disagree with JoCat's insinuation that they're lacking in depth or characters. I've put several hundred hours into all three of those titles and there is a LOT in those games.

Gridania was heavily leaned into in 1.0 and more care was taken but it took a back seat after that.

Re: voices at ~12:00, my son developed his father's deep base voice practically overnight at 14 😁🥰
Aftereffects is new math compared to old math

On Gridania: Kan E Senna is super boring...
Oh I think Garrett is focusing in on kid Ramza and not...ohhhhhh.
