Yes!! I built a CLC ocean kayak from their plans (Eek, 22+ years ago) in VT unheated garage during winter. So much fun! Tula's & CLC = perfect fit. This will be such a fun series. That shop is so cool. Besides, Bacon's is right there.🤯 Absolutely fantastic. Be well.

I always refer to Annapolis as the boat circus. I've always seen something very unusual and interesting there. A guy with a dog who would jump off the bow swim around and climb up the swim ladder run up and jump off again 3x till Capt. Commanded he stop. A wedding party with band on the bow, a guy sail down wind into ego ally and tack out in between boats lined up going in, a yacht once owned by Francis Langford. It certainly will be entertaining for you.

Look up Bangka boats from the Philippines. (Pronounced Bonka) They have been around for a couple of centuries probably, at least since the 1800's. Skinny ama's compared to Polynesian tri-canoes and they, since WW2, have been powered, usually by surplus USA genset engines. I saw several that were rigged for sailing similar to Hawaiian style when I was in the Philippines, and they haul ass. I don't know, check them out. At least look at some pictures before you build.... You can never have too many ideas before building a boat... Good Luck

@@charonstyxferryman You are most probably correct, and I would never argue about anything concerning watercraft with anyone named Lars Hansen! Sweden or Norway I'm guessing?... That's a pretty salty name. When I first saw Billy's drawings, they looked exactly like the "bonka" boats we used as dive boats in the P.I. back in the early 70's. I was already recommending those sweet little tri's before finishing his video to be truthful, I had to watch it twice... Anyway, Billy and Sierra are so much younger than me, and their style, other than that DeFever! tends to be much more trendy than mine, just thought it might be easy to overlook the simplicity of the traditional Filipino fishing boats. Sounds like he's on the right track though... Fair winds!

Sounds like great concept, I understand you and Chesapeek Light Craft have put in a huge amount of thought into this but from your video it seems like you may not have considered a few things ........ I know this won't change anything (and I'm not really trying to) but this would be my input into such a venture.
You seemed to be falling into western thinking......as this is an open outrigger canoe ..... look more to south east Asia for inspiration. Jukung Indonesian outrigger canoe or Waka Polynesian outrigger canoes would be my inspiration. Kujungs, are exactly that, open canoes, they have over hull length low displacement wave piercing amas ...... they rely on the main hull (which have a decent amount of rocker) for floatation and the wave piercing amas are more for stability (not so much heeling resistance) ...... they sail them to their limit in open ocean, reducing sheeting to reduce heel ..... this may be more of a reflection of pairing it with lanteen style rig and its inherent sailing characteristics.
For uniqueness and safety and sailability I would look at adopting a flying lanteen rig (specifically Romy Rig). This rig pays homage to the lanteen and to a lesser extent crab claw rigs traditionally used on outrigger canoes. It overcomes the inherent issue with tacking a traditional lanteen rig by adopting two masts/split mast, allowing the sail to be hung between them and clear of obstruction (easily achieved with double outrigger). To be even more unique you could even rig you kite to it?
Current technology/system could be adapted ...... you could start/develop the concept by using a modified windsurfer rig mast, boom (split the wishbone boom and modify into pair of mast sections like whale ribs), sail (minimal adpation) ....... then just need to build a bow slewable sprit.
Only issue is reefing not easy to furl (but may be unnessesary as lanteen readily spill excess wind and can be easily sheeted out) but the design has huge potential for anchored canopy structure, etc.....
Very easy to sail, safe footless sail, very forgiving sheeting tension, there are a couple of UA-cam videos demonstrating this.
Looks like you would use one of the pedal assist in the locked position and I would suggest the forward pedal assist be removable and temporary have a retractable daggerboard fitted (rather than a dedicated daggerboard case) .... that being said, I don't recall Jukungs actually using Lee or Dagger boards ..... so maybe the two locked pedal drives would be adequate
Please consider these notes as concept ideas generated by a common interest, they are not critisims or suggestions ...... more like friendly discussion points.

i actually wanted to build something like that for me and my large doggo for laguna madre. i think i'd need 2 different keels though because some of laguna madre gets very shallow.
