Also, two other Japanese indie/rock/shoegaze bands I can think of are Paint In Watercolour and condor44. I rarely hear Paint In Watercolour mentioned anywhere, extremely underrated rock/shoegaze band. They have a song called "You Are Here" which I adore. And then condor44 are more rock with a bit of shoegaze undertones I guess you could say. I love "db" and "Hush & Vane" by condor44. ^.^

There’s something about these early 2000’s Japanese shoegaze bands, they really sound like the embodiment of loneliness. To me, it feels like I’ve been left behind on a dying world.
So true. So much of real music that gets left by the wayside by the industry. But it's the inbetweeners that make revivals and new genres rise and thrive. As long as we never forget them, they'll always be around.
Usually I have no faith in the UA-cam algorithm, but lately I've been getting a lot of these hidden indie and shoegazing gems. If it's happening for everyone who shows any interest in this type of music, then it will all get the recognition it deserves.

this will probably get buried in the comments but love this band so much its the first japanease shoegaze band i ever found, and this song was all i listened to back when i was 16. wasn't the best year of my life, probably one of the worst. moved to new school after a whole decade. made new bad habits and old ones came back. was dealing with some derealization/depersonalization for a year at that point too. but i guess the only good thing to come out of that year was me finding a lot of amazing songs like this and getting a lot into shoegaze. i love you honeydip, you'll always be in my heart

Just found out about this song while walking through the corridors in art school ! Some upper classes were playing the song and I had to stop everything to Shazam the song - but it didn’t worked, so I asked the people which song it was ! It was on a album compilation somewhere else on UA-cam but here I am ! tron's tronique features lots of little nods, both by title and melodies, of a wide range of 80's Western bands they must've heard growing up in Japan.
Update 2024-10 for new honeydip fans:
-honeydip briefly reunited in 2009 for tron's last live gigs.
-Vocalist Jun started the band 'dario' with producer MOG in 2010. dario released one album in 2011: 'Summer of the dead'. A 2nd album was planned but was never recorded or released. Jun then went out to join the former members of Tokyo Shoegazer in 2014 to start the band CQ. CQ existed from 2014-2019 until Tokyo Shoegazer restarted their activities. In 2024, CQ announced reunion gigs to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
-After tron ended, Masato and Takahito went on the form 'phantom club' in 2009 which brought back honeydip's Eiji, who had been out of the music scene since leaving sugarcoat in 2004, having only played at honeydip's 2009 gigs. phantom club performed a few lives, some recordings of which appeared on youtube but most clips have since been taken down. -In 2024, honeydip announced their return with 2 live shows, one in November 2024 and the other in February 2025, to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary. Masato stated that they wrote a new song.
-In 2024, drummer Masato started 'Good Acres House' which will perform live at honeydip's reunion live.

@@i7ami That's usually the case for Japanese bands who were indies and never really broke into the mainstream. Their music is owned by labels or maybe even the band themselves and official digital distribution or re-releases of the CDs just doesn't happen for whatever reason. The result - the music just gets harder and harder to find were it not for file sharing by fans. Even tron's second album was released by Avex and was subsequently buried and hard to find after it didn't take off.

今年のslowdiveの来日ライブにも若者がいましたし、シューゲイザーの影響を受けたバンドが国内外から出ています

なかなか日の目を浴びそうで浴びないジャンルだったのでどんどん色んなバンドが出てくれると嬉しいですね。

Just found out about this song while walking through the corridors in art school ! Some upper classes were playing the song and I had to stop everything to Shazam the song - but it didn’t worked, so I asked the people which song it was ! It was on a album compilation somewhere else on UA-cam but here I am ! The song is amazing I had to comment this because if I didn’t walked in this specific corridor at this specific moment, I wouldn’t have known this song !

This song found me completely drained. The love of my life is 9,000 miles away on the other side of the Atlantic.
