I don’t think it’s a plan . I think that this was the trajectory regardless. Things had already been declining in SF, and the Bay in general since 2013. The pandemic just exasperated all the issues, and almost took the “veil” off if you will. Now, we are left with what we have currently. It can only all continue to crumble and hopefully be brought back to the great city it once was, or forever be ruined .

Exactly how I remember it. It’s no fun walking downtown. I had to keep my head down the entire time as I walked to and from my hotel because I was scared I would step in feces or needles. Just terrible. I don’t think I’ll be staying downtown/ Union Square again. I stayed at Hotel Epik, I could smell feces and urine in my room. That experience was awful. I’m not ever staying there again. The most I will do is take the bus to Neiman Marcus, Macys and Saks. That’s it.

Tenderloin has been skid row for decades. It is only a few blocks from major Hotels, like the Hilton and many others, so many tourists get shocked if they walk blocks in the wrong direction. 6th & Mission also a traditional skid row. In fact decades ago, all of SOMA (South of Market) was skid row, then Gays and Tech started to change all that and gentrified it. Bay View, Visitacion Valley, also very sketchy. But so many great neighborhoods throughout the city outside of these few.
I love it there.. my friends own shops there. I get pizza from there and Vietnamese food… and in the 30 plus years I’ve lived here it’s gotten worse. I enjoy seedy.. this is a new dimension move along .. look at the pretty stuff while Our city falls apart.

My wife had to go to San Francisco for 2 days of meetings, she took BART (local train system) and had issues both days in addition to the dangers to streets you see here. BART is so dangerous in the evening she took Uber home both days. There is ZERO chance either she or I will EVER work in the city, even for 2 or 3 days a week for employers to mandate this is really disturbing which no doubt the Mayor is pushing.

It’s funny that all these vids are of the Same area, 6th & mission and up into the tenderloin or up market from 5th to 10th these areas have always been like this, downtown from Kearny or 3rd south of market is packed with people, tourist are back, cruise ships are docked. Funny how no one shows that , I’ve worked in SF for 30 years it’s yes it got very bad but I would say it’s a lot better in the last 12 months , it’s got a ways to go but the cure will bounce back it always has
