I was 8 years old and growing up in Cardiff, Wales. I watched Italia90 under a blanket on the sofa with my mum because she would let me stay up late for the matches at night. For me there's never been a more magical world cup. There was just something about it. After the tournament, when we played football on the playground in school and someone scored everyone would shout 'Schillaciii!'. Greatest World Cup ever.

Italia 90 was a magical tournament, the atmosphere, the teams, the world was more simple, people more present without smart phones and internet.. united by a dream.. pavarotti singing nessum dorma as the theme.. artists like maradonna, schillaci, baggio, roberto baggio, roger milla's dancing and paul gascoignes tears... it was real life poetry and a reminder of how beautiful life can be.. RIP Schillaci you legend!

I had so many sports cards (World Cup) of him. That was the best phase of my life. I was 9. Now I am 40. I can never forget his dance dedicated to his new born babies with his great and creative finishing.
I had his card too. It came with a somewhat small sized bubble gum. It had the world cup printed on the wrapper. And it was NOT Big Fun. Big Fun ones were cricket. Im 35 btw. Im a die hard Azzuri camp supporter but I had sports cards of different greats back in the day like Marco Van Basten, Gheorghe Hagi, of course Schillachi, and many others.

That goal against Ireland is imprinted in my memory. After beating Romania on penalties it was heartbreaking. He was in a beer advert here a few years ago. To this day, the town I live in, there’s people whose nickname is Schillaci. And if someone doesn’t know your name, they call you Schillaci.

My nickname was toto in the summer of 1990. I was small for my height but scored goals against the bigger boys at my park. So they nicknamed me Toto :)
