  • In this video jeweller and diamond setter Niels van Dooren setting 1.1 mm (0.005 ct) white loupe clean diamonds in a white gold slip on halo earring. This unique slip on can be used to top of an existing solitair ear stud. The diamonds are all exactly measuring 1.1 mm to create this smooth pattern. The use of Micro Pavé Technique creates a unique piece of jewellery.
The diamonds each weigh approximate 0.01 ct and are hold tightly with shared prongs. By creating seats with a carbide round bur you can see the distance from another. Afterwards with a cylindrical bur the side walls are slightly removed. These are then cut down even further with a hand made cylindrical graver. These are polished with ceradent polishing wheels to create the optimal high gloss. Furthermore tiny prongs are created by removing excess metal with yet another cylindrical burr. Then, gently the diamonds are put in place into the ,relatively soft, yellow gold. With a tiny prong pusher the golden prongs are bent over the diamonds thereby holding tightly the diamonds at the same time.
The jewellery piece was later polished with high gloss diamond polish.
All in all this was a beautiful solitair ear stud to work on.

Very nice. It would be nice to see the setting being made too. Even if they are cast, but would rather see handmade components and findings

Hi Folley, Currently I don't have the correct microphone and video setup for that but I might do so in the near future.

How do you know how much spacing is needed to mark? Is it 1mm more than the diamonds size or???

Hi, We always take the exact diamond size. Then we array this around the center curve to see if it matches nicely. ;-)
