if you want to get back to the boxy mesh view, after you hit the number 3 key to preview smoothing, just press the 1 key to go back to the boxy mesh.

For the part that he used Extrude-
SHIFT CLICK AND HOLD + Extrude Faces so it can curve through the lines

I am doing the same thing but it is supposed to create a straight line but instead of that it is creating a deformed surface and when i increase the divisions it creates the shape of curve and also a straight line connected to the ends of each other now i can simply select face from straight line and delete the faces of straight line but its not the right way, please tell me what I am doing wrong?
