The answer to the question about whether or not I love the 2020 YZ250FX when I’m in first gear is no. I don’t love the bike when the going is slow. It’s a 4 stroke and will stall very easily unless the RPMs are kept high. It’s not unique to this bike, it’s a property of all the modern 4 strokes like this. The bike is an absolute blast to ride in the wide open terrain you see in this video. When the going is slow, that narrative changes. Since I ride a wide variety of terrain and love the do some nasty, slow type riding as well, this can’t be my primary bike. It’s just not good enough in the gnarly stuff for that purpose.
    Enjoy the video!

i have a 2020 250fx, of course it is more stall prone than a 2 stroke but you just have to adapt to a slightly different ride style. i found that its easier to leave it in 2nd gear and slip the clutch a bit in tight stuff. being fuel injected, i found 1st gear almost impossible because its so jerky with even a tiny bit of throttle. and maps deff make a difference.

So, to comment on Kyles observations and expand upon it. I own a 2019 YZ250F (basically the same bike) that I do a lot of single track riding on, lots of log hits, etc. but nothing like the crazy rock terrain Kyle does. I think that's what he's saying it struggles with, and I can see where and why. I've experience flame outs when riding some bigger log hits when riding at a crawl, and unless the bike's momentum and rev's are not close to idle, it does have a tendency to flame out. However, if you can keep the bikes momentum up usually it will do just fine.

I know they are push to talk so you have to have another button on the bar and I didn’t like that idea when my dad and I got some radios a few years ago. We went with the sena 20s and now regret it wishing we had some style of push to talk so you could mute yourself really easily when you need to cough or sneeze or in your case talk to the camera.

For any of the cross country type bikes you'd need to do some gearing changes to make it capable of enduro/single track. Not a fan of the rekluse clutch since you lose the ability to clear obstacles with precise clutch control. Would be curious to see it go down one tooth in front and maybe up two in the back.

The lack of power and suspension are noticeable for more advance riders, but for a beginner rider, I believe it is a great bike in many ways: almost completely indestructible (no readiators, no complicated electronics, etc.), almost impossible to stall, enough torque to get anywhere, low height, cheap to fix, etc. The only problem is that when you start gaining confidence and ride faster, steeper, looser trails, the lack of power and suspension are a big handicap.

3 more teeth is a huge change and it messes with all the ratios including lowering the top speed, all of which can be terribly annoying. I disliked going up even 1 tooth on my 300. Flywheel weights can help stalling but don't eliminate it and makes them rev slower and when it's already on a "slow" 250F that's not an ideal scenario. Why settle when you could just buy a 2 stroke and have the power, the stall resistance and fast revving.

1 tooth on the back is plenty to make a difference, let's you get into second gear early smoothing out throttle response and you still have to have big balls to hold it open in top gear. Suits my local riding any way. Add far as maps, Take it to a dyno! Get it tuned properly Max horse power that comes on very linear, then you learn how to ride with throttle and clutch control.

I have the 2020 150i and LOVE it! SOOOOOO fun! You can't go wrong with either - I like having linkage a little more so 150i it was...for me and my wife (technically hers, but I ride it just as much). She gets on the 300 sometimes as well...

Kyle if you get the chance you should try the 2020 KTM 350 exc-f. The bike won’t stall in first gear at all. I just purchase one two weeks ago and it is an all around Great machine. It feels like a mountain bike with a motor that is so smooth and handles amazingly well.

I would love to see a video about the different types of terrain and riding. What’s the difference between single track/fast flowing and slow technical? Could you do a comparison of one of the 2t’s and the FX through the slow technical trails? I’m sure that I’m not the only one that wants to see how the 4t struggles in the slow stuff. Thanks Kyle.

The 250FX is technically yamaha's offroad race (GNCC style) bike. Not a motocross bike.

David Smutz I am from Germany. So I have no idea what GNCC means... 😂
But in my opinion is it a Motocross bike with a “X“ in the name and a 18 inch wheel.
A real offroad bike is a KTM EXC (for you X-CW I think)...

Jonathon Davis Of course I mean “X“.

    • @jonathondavis170
      @jonathondavis170 4 роки тому

Haha That makes more sense! Lol A simple typo error...although the suspension/mappings/gauges make it much more usable for offroad/trails...the "X" is actually the "cross country" designation, so as stated above, it's designed for hare scrambles, GNCCs - basically all cross country applications. I was a previous owner of the 16 version and really loved it...just love my Husky 2 smokers more. ;) Cannot beat the versatility of a TX300i or XC300Tpi. :)

Is this your idea or slow technical? I'm not being a dick about it but this to me is open. I'd ride a 450 in stuff all day. Hell I'd ride my 990 in that even. Technical for me is rocks, roots, signal track hard Enduro. Things normally the domain of a 250 or 300 2T, less stalling, less heat build up. My KTM 350 XC-F is a pain in the ass in slow technical. Hell Karl, you owned one too for a while so you might have some idea what i mean. They won't chug, like revs but go like hell. Still need to ride them like a 250F however. I preferred the 450 for that reason. 450 = lazy power and i like that alot. I am 108kg naked if anyone cares. :0)
