    I'm learning so much from these videos. Just the little gem about BOGO vs giving away bushels was a great piece of insight, which I wouldn't have expected to get from a walkabout video. Thank you!

    Thanks for your videos, I love learning from you. May I share my shock of hearing that Quebec can't make as much money as Alberta? I keep hearing that we're the "have" province and goodness, I've always been jealous of what you "farmers" can grow in the east. Congrats on your wonderful harvest this year, I'm so happy for you! Get more working at things like that to take advantage of your wonderful climate...Ontario and Quebec can produce much more than we can in our growing season out here...know that from farm friends out there.

    Thank you Stefan for generously sharing your knowledge and experience. I’ve been subscribed for about two years now and have learned so much from you. Last year I planted my first trio, this year I planted five more. I think I’d like to add tree more trios next year, to include some nuts and some more uncommon types of fruit. It’s because of you that I started. I look forward to watching my little orchard of trees, berries, and herbs grow and mature over the next few years. It’s exciting. Again, thank you.

    Growing up here in CT my most enjoyable times was going to an Orchard picking apples, peaches and pears. I invited my family and friends to celebrate one of my birthdays picking apples then having a picnic. Don't tell anyone but I specially ordered perfect blue skys and temperture.
    Glad to hear you have a good population of frogs, they're having some trouble globally. Take care and stay well.

    Paul Wheatons permaculture forum site has videos on home made driers, sun heated driers, with a long tongue sort of, peice of square tube with metal on top, metal to heat the air within, whihc air will move up into a cupboard in which you can dry fruit . Not that they are much use at the time of first frosts.

    I always wondered what happened to the Bleu Jays in the summer. I observed them this summer. They were squawking about but not coming for peanuts. They will come visit my ledge in the winter! This year I will try to go outside and feed them like Lesley the Bird Nerd does. The Pennsylvania whitetail deer would've eaten ALL the low hanging fruit. I am guessing that those wires are used to control the deer? Wasps are excellent pollinators and I'm glad they saved your orchard! "Free" is never good. It makes people either skittish or greedy:-) Paula Red and Empire apples are delicious cultivars of the MacIntosh:-) I fell out with (2) garden clubs bc I told them that weeding did not make any sense. I sheet mulch at my latest club. They got all up in arms, smh:-) I compost in place. I found I was to lazy to drag compost over a fence and up a rolling hill:-) Sebastian has beautiful sun kissed hair and James looks like he gets down to business:-) Merci Beaucoup.

    good to hear 2019 harvest went well....as I just watched your 2018 video of things not going well. Great you never gave up! $1 a pear is a reasonable price. It cost me $2.25 for 2 Bartlett pears the other day in the store - and they weren't even that good. I have a neighbour with a pear tree that I prune and they don't use chemicals - and it makes delicious pears!! better than anything i've tried in the stores!

    If you are permaculture should not you plant some trees that are not eating ones. Dont maples help other trees and poisonious plants, dont theyhave a place too. Rosemary and such to ward off insects and are a good bee food. Rosemary flowers in early spring or late winter and lavender in summer when it is too hot for many flowers: Strawberry tree arbutus uneda i think its called flowers in winter which helps bees which come out on a warm winters day but then I live in Spain.

  • @rosemacaskie
    @rosemacaskie 4 роки тому

    You talk of having plenty, too much, enough for a time of famine somewhere else or in some other disde of food production. I live in Spain a Catholic country and am amazed to find here an enormouse disapproval of having more trees than you need, so much so that if you plant an early apple and a autumn apple and a late one, they get annoyed. Why not have a lot, enough for critters too, maybe you can give it to friends and relations in town, or make and freeze apple sauce or apple filling for pies.
    Everyone is complaining about people eating too many hamburgers and here I am, in a place were people get upset if you grow too much fruit! Maybe you have to find somone to truck the apples out to a poor district, some local gypsies perhaps who might pick and carry it off, to sell the fruit there.
    Saw a TV show of a Spanish cook traveling in South America, talking of the food there and he went to a lama farm where the lama farmers said the same, "We only have as many lama as we need". In South America! Where there is so much hunger! Crazy. There you have it again, another Catholic country and people only growing as much as they themselves need to have a bit of money. HOw much fruit do such places have for everyone on a bad year. Suppose there are enough protestants in Poland or that you are near enough to Protestant countries for that part of Catholic ideas not to take root:
    I suppose that in a year of too much, the charities wil take fruit. Trouble is they are so aggressive about sharing that they will want to clean you out all the time, their suggestion is tha tyou can live in a hovel. I dont dare go anywhere near them, they will want to take all your fruit all the time.
    I hope what I say does not offend you. I myself was educated as a Catholic. I cant stand them any more, my sister is in the Legion of Christ and htey hav emade her so mean it just isnot true. That lot are so horrible to people. I understand that religious people are offended if their religon is insulted but I think all religions have their crazy side and such sides need to be commented on.

    • @StefanSobkowiak
      @StefanSobkowiak  4 роки тому

      Nothing wrong with abundance, it’s there to share. Start with neighbors, local kids will enjoy taking abundance. Just do what you have on your heart. Don’t pay attention to what others say.
