    I used to do craft fairs a few years ago, they were always very hit or miss, you have covered everything people need to know if they are thinking of doing them. Very informative video.

      Yeah they can be really hit and miss can't they! That's why I have really cut back this year and will only be doing a handful of them. Thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! ☺💖

    First video Ive watched of yours Milly and really enjoyed your tips and tricks. I really love the part about projecting your brand and colours as you see so many busy stalls at fairs that dont have prices and are so full you cant actually see the products. I expect yours looks lovely! And youve definitely had me looking at how Im going to set up mine!

    My childcare let me down at the last moment and I had to manage a market day with a 3 year old, and it was NOT GOOD 😌 my husband was with me but even so our boy got so bored, was constantly underfoot or being a distraction to potential customers, took all my husband's attention so he couldn't help me... We gave up and my husband left with him so I did the rest of the day alone.
    So honestly, my own opinion - make sure you have childcare!

      My children are slightly older and my son is a mini 7 year old salesman and I won't do one unless he's with me lol so keep that in mind when your son gets older he can be an asset with your customers!

I’d love to do a craft market and have always had questions, but no one to ask… so this was PERFECT! Thank you so much, you are wonderful! Ps. On a side note, your eyebrows are incredible 🥰 xxx

    Hi Milly, I have done many craft fairs over the years but I am in Scotland. We actually require to have Insurance for Public Liability for £2M - £5M.
    I liked the fact that you mentioned people should have clear prices on everything. Again, in Scotland we need to have clear prices, name and address of business on our stands because Trading Standards can suddenly appear and I was caught out by them. They took all my details and told me to get prices on everything and have a clear company name and address on my table and they were going to come back the next day to check. That was a bit scary.
    You are so right though. It’s all a bit hit and miss. I have recently changed my business from designing and selling rubber stamps to designing and making paper products, like yourself, but I also make paper earrings and wooden necklaces. The second fair I went to last year I sold absolutely nothing. Years ago I would have been gutted. Now I think, oh well never mind. Hopefully I’ll do better next time but it does stop me from doing them.
    I have really found that over the last year I have had no motivation to push myself. I even went to the Trade Show in Glasgow and that was not great for me. I had wondered whether paper earrings were a step too far. Still haven’t made up my mind but like you I have my first fair on 1st April so I’m hoping I do okay. Did it last year and I was happy with what I made as no one had seen my earrings at that point. I brought in £99. I was happy with that.
    Good luck with your fair on the 1st April. Hope you do well.

      Wow thats so scary! Im in scotland aswell ive just done my first fair and have another one next month but im not a buisness or anything its just me and my friend selling things that we have made. Is insurance mandatory for doing craft fairs? And do i have to have some kind of buisness situation even though we are just doing it for a bit of fun?

    • @colourific
      @colourific Рік тому

      @@rachaelabbott2599 it’s not compulsory but advised. Some craft fair organisers stipulate that you need it.

    • @colourific
      @colourific Рік тому +1

      The problem with doing it for a bit of fun is that if you bring in £1,000 from that in a year it’s classed as a business in the eyes of HMRC

    • @colourific
      @colourific Рік тому +1

      Sometimes it’s easier to set up a business and as long as you keep your income under £1k in the year starting from 6th April you won’t have to fill out a tax return but you should register with HMRC. You can register as a sole trader. It gets more complicated if you are a partnership

    I was watching your video and when it came to the part of not socializing? I actually gasped. Socializing is EVERYTHING at a craft event, if you sit like a sloth on a log, people will just pass you buy. Don't get me wrong, you do not want to overly socialize, but you have to work your table at craft events!

    • @printsbymilly
      @printsbymilly  8 місяців тому +3

      Hey, absolutely! I always socialise with my customers! I meant it's a good idea to have your products priced clearly, because if someone is socially anxious, they may not want to speak to you/ask how much something is, so you won't miss a sale if your products are priced clearly.

    I have been to many many comic conventions over the past 20 years, but I have never tabled at an actual craft fair. Those are still on my list to try in the future now that i do a lot more stationery products. :)
    Very good list you made there, I feel in general the things to think of and bring for those two are quite the same. :D

    You'd need to take your total sales - stall fee - cost of the sold items - petrol etc to get what you've actually earned, and then that £££ should be divided by total number of hours (the actual market, the commute to and from the market, and the time spent on making the items you sold). How much do you end up being paid per hour then?

Do you have any photos of how you staged your stall , layout etc just for ideas. Thankyou again for sharing.

    Hi Milly, when using sunup card reader does it have a fee? Do you charge the customer that fee or do you take that loss? Thank you

    • @printsbymilly
      @printsbymilly  Рік тому +2

      Hey! Yes so they take a 1.69% fee per transaction, so if someone buys something for £10 as an example, they’ll take a fee of £0.17, so it’s not much at all. I don’t personally charge the customer as it’s such a small fee but if you’re selling more expensive items then it might be worth taking the fee into consideration when pricing items :) hope that helps!

    I plan to do only one market, just for funsies, so I don't think it's worth it for me to buy a card reader just for this one occasion. But using cash only can be a bit stressful because I will need to somehow acquire lots and lots of coins to give people change 😅😅
