The hindsight of this kind of ' terrifying death ' is that you would've experienced a very slow excruciating pain . Personally, I'm the opposite of a claustrophobe, small spaces make me feel safe, and squeezing between narrow edges is super relaxing and fun ngl. You'll die in a cave if you're not careful, like you'd die in roller coaster if you don't put your safety lock on. The difference is in a roller coaster everyone knows that if you don't do that you're in stupidly preventable danger, whereas with caving people do completely stupid things without the awareness of it. They're both just as deadly, just as fun. Caving is pretty safe if you're not a complete moron about it.
It's not the getting in part that would scare me, it is the getting out part. Some of those squeezes you have to do a certain way and going backwards would be harder I would think.
Sorry for the late response. But if the guy had moved those rocks they'd pile up making the opening more narrow. It would probably be counter intuitive.
Chiefmanywrenches I was thinking the same thing. Especially for people with really tight clearances. Dealing with some of those obstacles would be completely different, from coming to going. Just watching some of these vids gets me so fearful, like that no-mount diving.. Dont even think I'd try it in a life or death situation.
Getting stuck isn't so bad so long as you keep your body level, and don't end up upside down. You would have days, even weeks to survive so long as people keep giving you food and water until you can be pulled out. Much bigger dangers are death drops (cliffs), and getting lost without anyone knowing you are there. There are some caves like Airmen's Cave that go extremely deep into the earth, and are filled with dozens, if not hundreds of dead-ends. You can easily get lost inside them. Those are much bigger fears than level wormholes, birthing canals, or whatever you want to call them. You'd have to be some kind of special to actually think it's a good idea to crawl downwards headfirst through an area you can't turn around.
Like most everyone else, my first thought is that you are all thoroughly batshit insane. However, I realized that it's actually your incredible ability to keep your emotions at bay and make rational decisions that allows you to do these things. And the best part is that you're all motivated by little more than curiosity and a challenge. It shows the great lengths that humans will go to and the risks they will take for the sake of exploration. It's very admirable and you all have my utmost respect.
This is an excellent spelunking video. Love the ending "What did you think of it?" "Not for everyone's taste i suppose" ".....very unique cave" "what a shithole" lmao

Another great video Keith that brought back some good memories. The first time I went down Lionel's we ran out of time so had to turn back. The next time we got further but again had to turn back after one of my stouter friends had a panic attack. It became something of an obsession for me and my best friend each time we attempted it we'd get a bit further then have to abandon our attempt for one reason or another (usually because we were with beginners who decided they'd had enough!). We also came up with our own names for various sections such as the rift which was known as "The birth passage" due to the various grunts, groans and heavy panting it induced. The first wet squeeze was "Luke's duck" after my friend Luke decided he was stuck and began to panic. At first we tried to be calm and supportive but when that didn't work his best friend and housemate took another approach by goading him about his weight, size of his arse and a variety of increasingly offensive insults. Forgetting to panic Luke became increasingly angry until he suddenly shot out of squeeze with a surge of anger fuelled adrenalin, at which point his friend cheerfully said "I see you're out now. You can thank me with a pint later!".
What a great comment. I know exactly how you all felt. This video was filmed over two trips and on the second trip we only kept going as one member of the team didn't want to go back through all of the obstacles we had come through on the way in. Keith, I love your caving vids. I'm terrified by the driving on the other side of the road! My mind just can't make the switch. I'm glad my lady can do the driving thing when we visit. I'm sure I'd tie up traffic something fierce.
The UK was driving on the left side before the US even had a concept of roads. So it is in fact YOU that drives on "the other side of the road" I know it's hard for Americans to understand this but I'll try to explain it as simply as possible. The USA is NOT the centre of the earth, other countries are not weird, quirky subcultures that have chosen to deviate from the american way of doing things, they all came before you! YOU are the subculture, YOU are the ones who do things differently.
@@joelad6365 Well, I don't understand your anger. I never meant to denigrate driving on the other side, I just said I find it terrifying because its not something I'm used to and I'd probably screw up in a bad way. You're making assumptions that just have nothing to do with my admission that I find the transition to driving on the "other side" of the road rather intimidating and scary. I don't want to turn into the wrong lane, just out of habit from my being an American, driving in foreign country.
The way you phrased your comment just screams USA, and it's quite irritating. I'm not angry just a little tired of having my language and culture judged to be quirky and weird by people who did it second. There must be something in the way you phrased your comment right? How did I know you were american and not one of the many other people who's country drives on the right?
I was in the army and thought I was a hard nut, until one day they took us caving in the welsh mountains, it was that day i was brought back down to earth and had a taste of humble pie, scariest bloody thing I ever done getting stuck in those letterboxes was the worst! Edit: all these squeezes look the same and bring back memories, is this cave in Wales? maybe this was one of them we went to haha
I think i could just about push myself and manage to pluck up the courage to take on something as narrow as the 2nd squeeze, but that third squeeze i'd die of heart failure before i made it through. It's strange. I don't have any fear of small, enclosed spaces but not being able to move my arms and legs freely is terrifying for me.
Pardon me for saying, but a couple of you could do with losing a bit of Ballast....If you know what I mean... Wouldn't that make going down a sh-t hole covered in mud, easier!....Good Luck Though!! 9/10 On the Terrormeter.
5:15 Whole time I was thinking camera is is "wide" space so he wouldn't need to be long time in so tight space: Horror is when I saw that is just effect of ultra wide camera, and still small space. And to crawl on your back, that is kinda worse in my head.

I’m pretty sure we did this cave on a school potholing trip when I was like 13 years old; with a crazy teacher back in the 80s! We were all relieved to get out alive!!
Your caves in the UK are a lot more accessible than ours in Canada. Most times I have a significant hike in the bush to get there and are more likely to get lost than to find the cave. Great video.
It's always great to get a comment from a fellow cave videographer so thanks. Most caves in the UK are fairly easily accessible but there have been occasions when we have walked a long way and failed to find the cave! Keep making videos and greetings from England.
I've actually been caving. It was really cool once down there, but getting in and out was very difficult even with an instructor helping. I thought that was narrow, this cave is insanely small.

Army groups of quite often taken to Porth Yr Ogof which does have a letterbox squeeze. Caving is definitely an acquired taste.
Can't help watching it but rather you than me lol :)
Two minutes in and I'm already perspiring.
I can pass almost anything if I know I don't have to go back through it. For some reason knowing I have to go back through stops me
your videos helped me to heal my claustrophobia a bit :) ty
5:13 is where I'd burst into tears and demand someone put me out of my misery.
Humans are weird animals ^^
Crazy but i loved it!!!! Great video 👍
why they still refuse to install a rope for everyone's easy crawl... idk.. but please be careful
Watching this makes my palms sweat and I'm in a warm bed LOL
First squeeze
"Ah that doesn't look too bad"
*Helmet barely fits through*
"Uhhh"
My only sources of comfort, lookin up from my screen to see my big open room and lookin @ the end of the video to see if they get out
it must be a pain in tbe ass when trying to go back.
It can be.
'Remember We Do These Caves So That You Don't Have To.’
Well, what if I'm so crazy that perhaps I WANT to do it? Great channel, love the stuff. I'm thinking about trying caving for myself, so I guess we'll see how that works out!
Good for you. Hope it does work out.
Hope they don’t gain an extra 10 pounds.
The can barely fit now.
Can’t turn around..... what if it rained?
I- I COULD NOT DO THIS I COULDN'T BREATHE
Wonder how the camera got there first.
Zalo A 1 person goes in then places cam and sits behind it to film.
someone taped a camera to his arse then they just stay still when the want a shot of the person squeezing through cave
I’m pretty sure we did this cave on a school potholing trip when I was like 13 years old; with a crazy teacher back in the 80s! We were all relieved to get out alive!!
Nope nope nope nope
Thank you for 6 claustrophobic panic attacks
Why do you like things like that?? XDDD
Keep making videos and greetings from England.
i would go down in the entrance, puff some herb, and gtfO
Remind me exactly where the fun is in caving
When I see this type of videos I can hardly breath....
I've actually been caving. It was really cool once down there, but getting in and out was very difficult even with an instructor helping. I thought that was narrow, this cave is insanely small.
YOU ARE crazy people!!!!! But I respect your courage.....
Great Video. loved it.
Thanks.
I watch these videos when I want some inspiration in life, I watch the video , clap my back and say Look , you are intelligent, you love yourself and stay away from that kind of stuff, be proud of yourself.
It that makes you feel happy then I'm pleased for you.
@@CaverKeith it was an overly exaggerated comment, a funny take on caving, though I still prefer to keep as much distance from these sort of sports. No hard feelings bro. ✌️
No hard feelings.
fantastic stuff!
I like how they say dial 999 like your are going to have cell phone reception down there.
bodybait I can’t even get a good phone signal standing near a antenna lol
The views are just spectacular. I wish I had the stomach for this, caves look alien and gorgeous.
I've just developed asthma watching this!
😩
Imagine squeezing your way through there, using all your might and concentration. To be met with these god awful jokes about being moist and having a large breakfast! Haha!
You guys are fearless....
Bro i cant even fit in my laundry basket without nearly dying of fear
Why are you trying to get in your laundry basket!??
I think we took about five or six trips in Lionel's until we eventually worked out the round trip. For a smallish cave, it's quite complicated!
+Ian Cymraeg I agree.
So glad these guys wear baggy protective clothing. Thats definitely the first thing I would do too. Since these are super tight areas I would never wear something that was skin tight. Hopefully the extra slack helps slide around the jaggies and hard edges easier.
I cant imagine having to figure out a rescue in these caves with such tight areas
VERY COOL
"After becoming wedged in Lionel's Hole all you have to do is dial 999 for your cave rescue needs. Our cave rescue response team will make sure to return your call within the next 24 hours. Hang tight as Mendip's very own cave rescue team will be there. While wedged feel free to take part in any of our cave waiting games such as the shrivel and scream, wiggle your toes, and many more. Thank you for choosing Mendip Cave Rescue as your cave rescue response team." 0:47
Don’t know why I keep watching these kind of videos😱😱😱
This video gave me more fear and anxiety than any horror film or haunted house could. I had to kick my blankets off.
great video
That’s actually looks fun to me just don’t get stuck it’s just like solving a puzzles maybe I should try it at least once
