Thanks so much for the suggestion of using ratchet straps to add stability and your idea of using sand bags in an earlier video. I'm going to use both of those ideas tomorrow when I set up the 2nd level of my scaffolding for the first time. Both ideas sound great.
Thanks for the video. I bought the MetalTech Rolling Scaffolding Tower, Safeclimb 2-Story Baker Scaffolding with Outriggers, Guard Rail, Climb Through Platform. Not sure if you got a different one, they didn't put in the correct parts, or maybe MetalTech saw these complaints and changed their design, but with mine, they included 4 plastic inserts for the safety box railing to fit the round poles into the square frame to eliminate the wobble. I bought the hose clamp like you suggested in this video, so turns out I didn't need it (can use it for other things though). I also got the straps like you suggested. Definitely helped stabilize things because I'm HELLA uncomfortable with 2 story heights. Very pleased with this scaffold to install 8 high bay lights 15' up, conduit and 2 ten foot ceiling fans in my shop. Appreciate the tips.
Hello Andrew, I appreciate that you pass along product information and knowledge you have learned. Your reviews are always honest and straight forward. Thank you.
The round tube Metaltech railing doesn’t seat firmly into the square receivers, it feels extremely rickety. I purchased some metal plumbing pipe and cut and drilled it to fit into the receivers and take up the slack. Enormous difference in stability.
i have cleaned rain gutters for 30 years as a good portion of my business. I am comfortable with heights...but,...that does look a bit less stable then I would prefer at the top. Greta idea with the ratchet straps...but I think I would need to be on a more stable platform...like a square one. I think the extra money would be worth less risk...but great video lots of stuff to think about...learned a lot
EXCELLANT idea on the straps for side bracing. I wound up using the smaller super strut in a cross configuration on one side with the X bolted so it is rigid. Worked OK but it should be on both sides. However, I use it for storage when not in use. The metal bracing would prevent that to a large extent. Straps will be used next time. I also made some X bracing out of EMT for the ends. That helped a LOT.
Thank you for sharing and lucky I found your video! Excellent tips and suggestions. Just ordered the straps and cage to stabilize my Werner Baker Scaffolding. It is very spooky working up two high on these scaffolds.
I love the safety and review on Baker style scaffolding. Great job 👍 I did one of my channel as well. One very important thing you left out, I wish you had mentioned. The importance of using pins in all the points of connections. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much! You just saved me thousands. My cedar sided home needs sanding and restaining. Best estimate was 11k. My wallet not that deep but I'm afraid of heights. I'll do some simple 2x6 long stabilzers for a little extra stability on uneven ground. I think I can do the job with this set up. Figure this will save me about 7k. Thanks!
I'm afraid of heights too and it bothers me to overpay for what is otherwise a do-it-yourself job because of that. Still, I wish this product was a little more stable. I was wondering whether buying and extra pair of the platform supports for the very bottom would help stabilize it.
Hi Andrew great review. Thanks. You explain things very well and I have learned lots from you. Love what you do and appreciate your videos. You and Tiffany take care and have a good day. 🇨🇦
Thanks for this Andrew - I have the exact setup at exactly the same height, probably because I have exactly the same comfort level! I'm painting the outside of my house, so the ground is not as straight at a floor obviously. Going to roll it into place tomorrow to see how stable it feels - thinking of drilling a hook into the house and roping it in if it doesn't feel good , , , but as you demo'd in the earlier video, it felt really stable using one scaffold and working second from the top rung , , , it does take a few minutes to get used to the slight wobble, but once that comfort level kicks in, I'm really comfy up there to the point that I don't actually 'feel' the height. thanks again for the strapping tip!
I've been trying to find just the rails (for the platforms) to use as grab rails for low heights and stabilizers for a double stack. I love the strapping trick I can't wait to try that. I love my scaffolding, I do have the outriggers and rail topper and mine has paid for itself too. I was able to use it and charge it to a few jobs and it paid for itself after 3 uses or so. Much better than ladders for some. Great review and safety tips! One thing I like to do where possible is use holey iron to strap it to walls and that keeps it really stable, but that's not always possible.
Good information Andrew. About to do tongue and grove on the bedroom ceiling and will definitely be purchasing some scaffolding based on your information. Thank you!
Your videos are great! Watched this one from start to finish . . . could not have been narrated any better. Excellent thoughts and safety suggestions on your part. Thank you again. Thumbs up. Aloha. K Inouye Honolulu, Hawaii
A wise man who worked with my Father once told me a quote from Terry Prachett “You're just as dead if you fall from forty feet as you are from four thousand fathoms, that's what I say.” That's stuck with me, whether climbing a ladder, a tower or a roof. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the updated scaffolding review - the original review is what first brought me to your channel and now I’m a subscriber. I’ve bought several sets of led ceiling lights from Amazon and have had a mix of good/bad units in each set. It seems like the build quality isn’t always the best. I did notice lots of failed solder joints on many of the failed ones, so I’d recommend checking soldering job on these lights before getting them set in ceiling.
Its spring, people are looking to do work, some of which involves scaffolding. Your review is probably showing up high in the algorithm. I hope that you get a lot of subs because of it.
Personally as a bigger guy that bought a similar set for working at 14’ walls for my barndo and with 2 sets and stabilizers and it was too shaky when trying to climb. I actually got the trap door deckings and the 39” kit and used that instead of full 2nd ladders the height I needed. Climbing up inside is much less frightening
Excellent video. Been thinking of getting the outriggers for my HF scaffold...not really using mine as scaffolding most of the time, I use it as shelving for implements for my tractor LOL...however, I plan on doing some finish work out in my shop, so a 2nd scaffold would be excellent to finish the ceiling. I think I'll pickup the outriggers and the safety railing. Its nice that it all breaks down so when not in use as a scaffold I can remove all the additional stuff. Plus utilize the 2nd scaffolding for more shelving. I palletize my implements, so a couple minutes with the pallet forks on the tractor to offload implements to use the scaffold isn't much of an inconvenience or not really inconvenient at all compared to having to find all the parts and pieces if it were disassembled HAHA!! Again, excellent video, and recommendations. They do make steel cross braces for the scaffolding, heck you could make your own, but I like your ratchet strap idea, a lot of people already have a few sets of those lying around, and 1 less thing to try and store somewhere and remember where you put later.
Nice follow up review. So many say they will do a follow up but never do. I’m considering getting the WEN baker-style one on Amazon. They look very comparable.
Good job man - I have the exact same setup all Metaltech. I also picked up the leveling plates for uneven dirt, grass etc. I have found ratchet straps on just ones side works fine
Next time I have to drag out my scaffolding to fix the 14' high lights or the leaking gutters I'll replay this video. I've used 3 high when building and oye was it SCAREY! All the extra bracing is a fantastic idea.
Bummer on the LED light fixture, I almost bought some of them to replace some can lights, think I will hold off on that purchase for a little while longer until I get your "long term" review. 😁
After the house is done, one of your projects could be to build a large drone mount a lawn chair on top of it. That way you don’t have to worry where you are if you’re in the house you can just fly up and change your lightbulbs you can fly up to the roof or up to the top of a tree. I think everybody needs a drone with a seat on it
Should buy extra of those led ceiling lights that way if any go bad in the future and they go out of style/stock you still have some as backup to replace them. Trust me I wish I had done that with some things.
Did you win a lottery? How in the world do you afford such a big house? I hate to pay your heating bill. Very nice house. Good for you man. You are certainly blessed brother. Thank you for the great videos.
I think LED lights that are a whole assembly are less desirable than installing normal recessed lights with which one can retrofit with an LED bulb. This is because one can add the correct hue/temperature bulb one desires versus being stuck with a all in one system light. Not to mention one can change lightbulbs with handle long pole attachments.
Appreciate this and your related videos. Ascending to the high platform is a concern. Climbing over 1 cross member is fine, several cross members blocking your way is another matter. Swinging around the side looks like a scary stability issue. If you have a tall enough ladder to climb on, then I guess you would use the ladder, not scaffolding, for simple light bulb changes. Any insights for the wood deck? Concerned about damage/degradation over time. Would you use it as a template to cut out a replacement from thick plywood? Any ideas for a DIY base plate or something to capture wheeled foot and spread out load, to facilitate using the scaffolding on ground?
I don't recommend using on ground with double height unless you can tie it off to something. The plywood is thin, but has steel supports underneath, it's holding up well. Stick with it as it snaps into the frame and allows a lock to swing into place.
Wow, that's quite the set up! Thanks for including the options. Any idea if there is a way this could be used outside on level ground (without tires of course).
Great video Andrew! If you find a creative seamstress they may be able to turn the scaffolds into a nice couch and loveseat set so you'll be able to quickly setup the double-stack scaffold if/when you have anymore light issues in the Great Room! :-)
Hey! Thanks for the tips, great video. I have a similar set up but hesitant on using it on finished hardwood floors. Have you noticed any marks or wheel indentations left behind on the floors? Thanks!
🙋🏽♂️ question why didn't you have this set up while you were on the rooftop 🤷🏽♂️. Also is there going to be a permanent ladder attached to the house via rooftop 😉....
Don't use the wheels, buy the feet pad for it. Don't go high if possible and tie it off to something solid. I'd be nervous about using these on ground.
I couldn't help but notice your fan on the patio. It is moving in both directions from the wind. Is that going to cause a problem for the motor down the road?
If people need to go higher they could just wear platform soul boots from the 70s like kiss boots that will get them an extra 6 inches if they really need to go higher they can just put some cinderblocks under the wheels. 😂😂. If anybody actually does put cinderblocks under the wheels and then climbs all the way up, please make sure you have a camera on it. 😂😂😂

OF COURSE RATCHET STRAPS
I feel confident in my set but I have been trying to get that next level of stability. Ratchet strap cross bracing, genius
It helps!
Have you seen the Baker scaffold addon by MetalTech called "Climb and Go" to move around using the batteries you already have? I'm a little impressed!
I just seen it yesterday! Awesome invention, although very pricey.

Lol my heated space is only 1500sq ft. Last several bills have been around $100 a month. It pays to insulate very well.
And I built my house, saved me 6 figures in labor.

I have LED that are switching for color temperature so no problem there.
These are also color changing, three different temperature ranges.

What brand/model is it?
That ladder is 20 years old, a Werner 8ft model
