The greatest service that artists like malini ji have done is "decoded"(using her own words) the folklore in such a positive light that was needed to give confidence to a civilisation that has been wounded since centuries. I feel really fortunate to be born into a country and a civilisation that is served by artists like malini ji.🙏🙏
Wow! Thanks for inviting our national gem , Maliniji , it was both enchanting and enlightening to listen and know in detail on folk songs and it’s history , I hope gov put such national treasures like her and others in a position where they can shape our next generation’s education. My gratitude for this artist who’s being is in-sync with BHARAT.goosebumps….MALINIJI 🙏🏽🌺 most amazing singer !
This was one of the best interviews on this podcast. Thank you Smita for having Padma Shri Malini Awasthi on your show, I have been a fond of her folk singing since I was a child. Thank you ❤❤
Goosebumps! Lot of pseudo intellectuals consider people especially women folk who are iiliterate as jahil, anpadh, gawar, dehaati but as per Malini j's reference regarding the village ladies who worshipped her daughter before sowing potatoes, made be cry. हे प्रभु मुझे हमेशा इस भारतवर्ष के गाँव के हिंदू परिवार में जन्म देवे l इतनी अद्भुत संस्कृति 🙏l
Thank you Smita for bringing this Beautiful, Melodious Ravishing Beauty with brains Vocalist on your show. I love the way she fills the show with her surili awaaz. Maliniji and Shubha Mudgal have broken the myth that Classical singers can be English speaking and very contemporary in their looks and nobody can doubt their virtuosity in their Art and Talent.
Thanks to the ANI team for an illuminating interview with Malini ji! Not only was her voice so powerful and expressive, but she is so articulate in both Hindi and English. With her training in classical music and her knowledge of the significance of folk songs and the many dialects, she offered the listener a glimpse into the many unique threads that are woven into the cultural fabric of folk songs, from U.P. Her revelations are as much a treasure as India’s many weaves and fabrics and their astounding regional variety. Malini ji’s recollections of her gurus, including the legendary Girija Devi, and her descriptions of the guru-shishya parampara as a continuous learning process in many aspects, was fascinating.
Smita ji, I watch all your podcast episodes. All are lovely and lively. This one in particular is vert touching and has brought tears in my years.Malini ji is outstanding. I keep watching her videos on UA-cam. But smith ji, don't degrade your show by calling duffers and negative people like Pavan Verma.
Smita Prakash ji, this is a precious episode. What wisdom based on her experiences, Shrimati Malini Awasthi has shared...JUST stunning!! I would like to congratulate you for your choice of guests and flexibility in your interactions with them based on their personalities, their occupation and expertise. Great job ANI Podcast with SP. This episode I am gonna watch many times. Thanks for the delightful treat.
Amazing person. Every word she says and sings is so beautiful. Thank you, Smita for interviewing her. You've introduced me to this gem I never heard of.
Then you must tune in to any of the you tube/ visual source of her brilliant performance.. I had the privilege to watch and listen to her live in Chandigarh... the uniqueness of her performance is that she completely understands the contexts, meanings, layers and inherent local knowledge and history of the very song she chooses to perform 🙏
Great Interview. Learnt so much from Malini Ji about Folk Songs and how the reality of life is depicted in the folk songs. Thanks Smita Ji for such a wonderful podcast.
Kudos to you, Smita, bringing विदुषी Malini Awasthi on your podcat and letting us know more: what a wonderful lady she is and how brilliantly and tirelessly she is serving Ma Bharati. Lately, I came to know about her (though I was also born and brought up in the same district but left India after graduation in late 80s), and now the more I learn about her personal & professional life, the more I find her fascinating & intriguing. I see her as a modern role model embodying परंपराओं का बोध, आधुनिकता का परिवेश. संस्कृति का समावेश. Keep it up great work, there are millions across the globe who love to learn many more beautiful personalities who are making India as a great nation and serving Ma Bharti proudly & selflessly..🙏
Excellent podcast Smita ji! What a gem Malini ji is! Such power and confidance in her rendition. We are really blessed to have artists like her in our midst. Thank you for getting her on your show. My heartfelt respect to you and Malini ji 🙏 🙏
Oh my god, your pod-cast is overtaking everything because of the Guests like these what an interpretation of Folk-art never ever listen to anyone like this please bring Malini Ji more & more on your show to get enlightened of our primary roots and what a person she is so admirable, so much respect to her.
It was one awesome podcast. Esp it highlighted so many nuances of the Women & folk culture of India. And How they contribute, asset their identity, and how all of it connected with our India. Thank you Smita ji for this podcast with Malini ji. Dhanyawaad 🙏
Over more feather to your cap Smita.l have heard Malini sing and speak earlier too but this episode opened a very refreshing side of her personality that inspired me add as listener to connect more to folk lores. Thanks again. Congratulations again
One of the very few podcasts I have watched at normal speed! This is as beautiful as Maliniji and her singing. In this podcast, Maliniji has gave the essence of our Indic civilization and social structure. Beautiful ❤️👍🏾
Very interesting podcast. Equally pleasant surprise was Smita's command over Hindi language & Malini's treasure of folklore & folk music tradition. I remember Malini participating in a Mumbai reallity TV musical contest where late Jagjit Singh found her not suitable to go further in the show. It was a real jolt to her as well as to the viewers at that moment but her devotion and sacrifices have made her an undisputed star in the Indian traditional (non-filmy) musical world.
The best episode! . Malini ji is such an amazing speaker that she touches everybody's heart. Unke har ek gaane k sath lagta hai ye to is situation me gaya ja sakta hai. Unka gana Koyal bina bagiya na sobhe bahut pasand hai. Humara Dher sara pyaar or saadar pranaam unhe.
Maliniji's voice is amazing, we have lost all this because of bollywood songs. These are ever green songs, In karnataka also we call them Janapada geethegalu. Recently one of the kannada folk song about lord shiva became so famous, it has been viewed and commented by people across India and abroad. It was sung by Ananya Bhat.
Exceptional interview and analysis full of knowledge of Indian culture, folklore and tradition. Highly impressive podcast. Congratulations Smitaji and Maliniji. Look forward to all your podcast. Turly Overwhelming!
This is just too amazing an interview. In Awe of Malini ji’s in depth knowledge of folklore and it’s origin with beautiful stories. Lots to learn from our Culture in a proper way by reasoning it and not forcing it. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Excellent conversation! Just loved it. This was the best episode. Maliniji's voice is divine. Got to learn so much about our culture and women of previous generations.
This is the best podcast I learned so much about our culture & heritage how our grandmother past education, history & culture through orientation because our scriptures & books were burned by inventors this how our culture survived
Can you please get Shridhar Vembu, Founder of Zoho for the podcast. He is a visionary entrepreneur and he is trying to revive village economy by having offices in village. You can ask about starting a company, his PhD, starting electronic manufacturing in India, bootstrapping the company without investors.
Amazed and speechless .... whatever Maliniji said about Folk culture os absolutely correct ... I have experienced the richness of folk in my village ... but very sad that our youth is very away n have no respect for Folklore. I didn't miss it even for a second ...
Pranams to Maliniji .... Such profound knowledge of poetry, literature & Music... Smitaji u should do more such podcasts with diverse artists ... These knowledge will live for posterity .... Before this class is extinct record as many as u can ...
Such a beautiful podcast . I am fRom Kerala but still understood and enjoyed every moment , was really amazing , thank you very much Maliniji and Smitaji.
Maliniji is a Treasure House of Knowledge on Folk Songs/Music. It is enlightening to listen to her. It is ingrained in her heart and mind ,and comes naturally to her. Came to know so many things about folk sings for the first time. The Present Govt did the right thing by presenting her Padma Shri. Award. Thank you Smitaji for bringing her in Your ANI podcast.

Smiitaji I don’t know how to thank you for interviewing Malini Awasthi. This interview took me back 40Years while growing up in RuralBharat with my mother who loved singing gujarati folk songs and bhajans. Aaj to din Dhanya ho gaya
My father was in Indian Railways, posted in Gorakhpur.Saw Malini Awasthi ji in Carmel Convent Gorakhpur, she wàs one year junior to me ,the year was 1978. With pride I can recall her voice ,her performance in Gorakhnath temple Sanskrit saswar pasth ,even I participated from the same school. Listening to Malini even then used to fill me with love affection and appreciation.God bless you my great achiever.
I watched the episode last night only and felt so elevated and blissful and knowledgeable by sheer depth of music by Malini ji and all the knowledge imparted with sharing the rich experience. I feel so enlightened and simply joyful after soaking in the music and conversation of great artist Malini ji. Thank you Smita Prakash ji.

What a beautiful, enlightening experience!! I have downloaded this episode. Thank you so much for doing this podcast. It was out of this world or at least our world. I have never experienced the rich music of U.P. So rich, so beautiful. It is great that this Government is promoting & encouraging the revival of our ancient culture, of our rich heritage, of our Sanskriti & spiritualism, of the scientific facts written in our texts thousands of years ago, which the Western world claimed as their own centuries later.. Just goes to show what we, the Convent School & missionary college, English medium educated, have missed. It's true that the Convent culture has taught us much, but, at the same time, we did miss out on the teachings of our own rich culture, our heritage, our mythology, our rich languages, our arts. We learnt about the Pandavs for the first time while watching Mahabharat on TV with our kids. I remember how ashamed I felt then about my ignorance of my own sanskriti. There was no culture of puja or celebrating our festivals at my home. My parents grew up in Mumbai and we're more influenced by Bollywood & Congress party leaders belonging to the freedom struggle than by their sanskriti and culture. My mother never prayed. We didn't have God's at home. My father prayed to his Guru, as per his convenience. We never went to temples or for religious functions, they never taught us any shlokas or aartis or about our religious texts. There was nothing spiritual in our upbringing. With the result that to this day, at the age of 61 yrs., my daily prayers are - 'Sab Bhagwan, sab Devi Ma, Sai Baba, aap ko mera naman. Thank you, sorry, help us, guide us. Sadbuddhi dena (learnt this from my 3 yr old son who learnt it from my neighbour), hamari bhool-chook maaf karna.' Again, from my son, I learnt the shloka - 'Guru Brahma, Guru Vishnu . . .' & 'Shubham karoti kalyanam . . .' Somehow our weird prayers have reached the Gods and been accepted 🙏 But I do feel deprived.
