I only have outsider knowledge, but normally for a tangi (funeral) a body would be brought to the marae and family members would stay with the person at all times. There are rules for who speaks what and when, and normally songs between speeches. Having to limit the number of people present during Covid has been really difficult. There's a bit of information here and probably links to more: www.korero.maori.nz/forlearners/protocols/tangi.html e-tangata.co.nz/reflections/tangihanga-a-dying-tradition/ Now I found Tess' funeral unbelievable in that I've never been to a pākehā funeral where everyone is wearing black, it's pretty old fashioned, though the old women on the marae would definitely be wearing all black. But that's TV for you.

I love seeing different religions and customs. If anyone has any knowledge of what's going on I'd love to hear an explanation 😊
