I'm watching your videos because I've been binge-watching Danish television shows lately. After three seasons of Borgen and two of Rita I started to remember some of the patterns and words. :) I'm an English editor/proofreader so I found the vocabulary and sentence structure I was just casually picking up from the shows interesting and was anxious to try to connect the dots with some basic Danish lessons. (Okay, maybe I'm also slightly nerdy.) Thanks to you I feel I've learned a lot already. By the way, I want to compliment you on your teaching style - it is super clear and very easy to follow. As someone who has taught ESL in the past I really appreciate how difficult it can be to explain even the basics of a language. You make it feel very approachable! Tak!

Well, in English, you can phrase a question as "Bites the dog?" But it is considered archaic. It is still valid, however, and is often used in poetry, drama or music. Likewise, you can say "the dog bites not". Same thing applies.
If anyone can tell me, I'm really curious WHY English usually only follows the standard Germanic question format with forms of be, do, and sometimes have. It seems bizarre to have to put an extra "do" in there.

Unfortunately I cannot answer your question, but I can tell you that in German it's exactly like in Danish.
In German you could also apply the English pattern, but it sounds childish or foolish, like someone without education. I wonder if this also applies to Danish.

Van Hyde Tak og selv tak! I do what I can to give the videos enough new content, without it being too much of an overload for one sitting.

blackandsilky Thank you! Yes I am indeed Danish but I've lived in the UK for a couple of years now and I put a lot of effort into sounding English because I don't like my Danish accent.
Other people have called the videos funny. I'm glad that's how they come across :)

Could you do a channel for how to get a proper accent in English as a foreigner? It would be VERY much appreciated!

@@thedanishlessons7300 You have done an amazing job of imitating a southern English accent. RESPECT.
