Another beautiful song cannot seperate Kevin or Ray Crawford as the best I ever saw for Town but Kevin's back story is heartbreaking and that wonderful statue and this wonderful song does him justice Lived up Chantry just asI did as a kid
1962 I was a young schoolboy and idolised my great hero Ray Crawford. Then a decade later 1972 young Beattie made his debut away at Man Utd. I was actually there that day. I met Kev on several occasions both during and after his playing days. In pubs mainly. We all loved 'the Beat'. I'm a Kemball Street boy who went to Copleston but I have had endless connections with Chantry over the years and will be up there at Goldcrest tomorrow visiting my 95 year old mother in law. I've enjoyed sharing the nostalgia with you mate!
Just discovered this song and the video. Both are very good. I would love to have the lyrics written below the video because UA-cam's automatic subtitles do not work through the whole song.😕
Hello Kai ! Thanks for making contact. Its appreciated and I'm pleased to hear you like the song and video. I will try to put the lyrics under the video as you suggested. In the meantime here are the lyrics below. Best regards George 😃 Kevin Beattie ‘The Story of the Beat’ (The Beat Goes On ) Words and Music by George Baker There’s only one Kevin Beattie, That amazing young kid who stepped who off a train straight into our lives He had nothing, just some worn out old boots in a brown paper bag The day he arrived. Just fifteen, and all alone So, this town adopted the boy, made him one of our own.
He was special Unbelievable power and speed. Superb in the air we remember, his howitzer left boot, the springs in his heels, and his long flowing hair Full of fun, young and raw, An unstoppable athlete the likes of which we’d never witnessed before. CHORUS: We all loved the Beat we know he loved us too. Our hero and or Buddy our favourite ever blue He played with pride and passion. He was Ipswich through and through The Beat goes on and on and on and on and on What a debut. Man. Utd away Bobby Charlton George Best Dennis Law The Beat was awesome, He stole the headlines, it was 2-1 to Town. Final score. From that day, sure to play, a star of Robson’s incredible team, And we all sang his name.
CHORUS: We all loved the Beat etc …………Aa above The Beat goes on and on and on and on and on When his playing days were over , we loved him even more, Cos, he stayed and lived amongst us all - respected and adored, He left this world too early, but in our hearts, you can be sure, The Beat goes on and on and on and on and on The Beat goes on and on and on and on and on ….The beat goes on. Terrific tribute to the best player ever to pull on the town jersey. Also one of the greatest human beings whose work among us for the whole of his life enriched all of us who had any contact with him. He brought joy and enthusiasm to anyone who's life he touched and although he was born in Carlisle from the moment he set foot in Suffolk he was Ìpswich through and through. We are priveleged he chose to share his life with us. I was fortunate enough to be 18yrs old when I saw him make his debut for the town and I reckon I saw 90%of his games in a town shirt and I think it's fair to say that we will never see his like again. Long live the beat.!
Your comment and fine words about Kevin Beattie are greatly appreciated and will be much enjoyed by all who were privileged to have supported Town throughout the Robson era. I was also there for The Beat's debut at Old Trafford aged 20 and so proud that my programme was used in the making of the video. You have succeeded in putting into words thoughts and emotions that so many of us share. Thank you Ken!
@@proudtoweartheblueitfc8650 thank you so much for your reply, it's good to hear from other survivors of the old Trafford match the great man made his debut in ,I don't think many of us there realised we were witnessing the birth òf an ITFC legend COYBs
Awesome vigilance gone into your research of knowledge, amazing lyrics, great understanding of The Beat as more than the footballer, BUT person he was too, superb tribute to ITFC's Greatest! The Beat Goes On, and on and on!!!
As a passionate Ipswich fan only a couple of years older than The Beat, I know the extent to which he was adored by the people Ipswich and Suffolk. As you rightly say, he was an incredible player but also a remarkable person who made himself accessible to all. There are no words to describe what he meant to us all, but thanks for your kind comment regarding my effort.
Thank you for this great tribute to a fantastic player and warm hearted indivdual. R.I.P. Kevin.
Give my love to Chantry,,,,,,,,raised to have total respect for Copleston!
Keep em coming mate!
