What the human genome sequence doesn't tell you.

  • Until recently ~8% of the human genome sequence was missing. It is now sequenced - yay!
But, what information does the human genome sequence actually tell us - is it the 'book of life' as you may hear it described?
Why did it take us so long to get the full sequence, how was it done? What are the consequences or next steps now we have the full sequence.
These are just a few of the questions i raise and discuss in this video.

lol, during the editing i managed to cut out me saying "the book of life is in our hands", so just imagine i said it before i listening here 00:14

It would be so awesome if our advances in AI can give rise to a database of what every gene codes for or the function of each gene, as well as the function and structure of every protein and molecule in the body, as well as an extensive library of epigenetic triggers and modifiers.

The amount of processing power and the scale of servers required to maintain such a database and the energy consumption required would be astronomical

What practical applications does this technology have? Can it be used for reversing aging or enhancing human capabilities? I haven't viewed the video yet.

The program of life resides in the morphogenetic fields from which all that is material maniFests. I love this material science and it does not easily allow quantum biophysics to be easily integrated. Thanks. I really enjoy your podcasts. Thank you for the time and energy you bring to this!

Excellent video! The higher level effects from tertiary and quaternary structures, and how the DNA interacts with itself in ways we still haven't even imagined, certainly leave untold amounts of knowledge to gain. This analog nature of DNA makes understanding cellular molecular biology perhaps and endless endeavor.
Aren't there parts of the Y chromosome that are also extremely difficult to sequence? Not even the centromere and telomeres, but large parts of the rest that are extremely repetitive?

    • @TheSheekeyScienceShow
      @TheSheekeyScienceShow  2 роки тому +2

Not entirely sure about Y chromosome composition, but combining both long read sequences (high error) with short read (low error) sequencing, at least using the same approach here, is likely also now possible to sequence.

Isn’t another important component whether or not a gene is expressed (epigenitics)? From what I understand, if a gene is present but not active, it doesn’t play an important role.

Its discouraging to think about the complexity and multitude of factors that make gaining control of our biology more difficult, but you have to acknowledge that the great points in this video are true. Wouldnt you say though that understand genetic processes is one of the most important areas of research for potential impact regardless?

I'm not permitted to tell you a lot...
But if I can give you a hint...
The programming of DNA molecules is more of an out of order stacking of genes over time.
Much like a program that gets updates but doesn't clear the cashe.
    Hopefully this will help.

I think it's about your skill of adaptation for diverse English pronunciations in reality. I am not a native English speaker, and I can hear this channel's English comfortably.
