It's late. I just finished reading the Book of Revelation. As I finished ch. 22, I found your congregational singing on YT and sang On Jordan's Stormy Banks I Stand. Whatta blessing. The LORD be with you. Thank you. Amen!
Gareth Ifan it is an old African-American spiritual composed slightly before the American Civil War. The hymn has less to do with heaven than it does with slaves running away to the Promised Land of the Northern States where they would be free.
On Jordan's stormy banks I stand, And cast a wishful eye To Canaan's fair and happy land, Where my possessions lie. Refrain: I am bound for the promised land, I am bound for the promised land; Oh, who will come and go with me? I am bound for the promised land. All o'er those wide, extended plains Shines one eternal day; There God the Son forever reigns, And scatters night away. (Refrain) No chilling winds or poisonous breath Can reach that healthful shore; Sickness and sorrow, pain and death, Are felt and feared no more. (Refrain) When I shall reach that happy place, I'll be forever blest, For I shall see my Father's face, And in His bosom rest. (Refrain)
I love this song. So encouraging to think our promised land is with our Lord.
The organ being played at it best..god loves this hymn..so do i...❤
Beautiful words, notes and rendition by this Church. Display of the words gives greater effect and appreciation of this great Hymn of the Church.
As I'm getting older, and more feeble, such hymns quickly bring on the tears, especially when so beautifully done. Thank you!
A hymn that gives me great comfort in knowing that I am bound for the promise land were a new and everlasting dawn awaits all ....

On Jordan's stormy banks I stand,
And cast a wishful eye
To Canaan's fair and happy land,
Where my possessions lie.
Refrain:
I am bound for the promised land,
I am bound for the promised land;
Oh, who will come and go with me?
I am bound for the promised land.
All o'er those wide, extended plains
Shines one eternal day;
There God the Son forever reigns,
And scatters night away.
(Refrain)
No chilling winds or poisonous breath
Can reach that healthful shore;
Sickness and sorrow, pain and death,
Are felt and feared no more.
(Refrain)
When I shall reach that happy place,
I'll be forever blest,
For I shall see my Father's face,
And in His bosom rest.
(Refrain)
Sweet heavenly delight!
Cape Fear brought me here
I heard this from Cape Fear.
Max Cady sung this right before he drowned!
very sad.
Oh my! He knew where He was going and that Christ lived in his heart before He died! That is the comfort.
