Orestiada of Evros Thrace Greece is a city in the prefecture of Evros in Greece located very close to the border with European Turkey It is the newest city in Greece because it was founded in 1923 with the exchange of populations by refugees from Estesrn Thrace and Eastern Romulia According to Sravonas, Plinios and Byzantios when the mythical Orestes killed his mother Klytemnestra chased by remorse (Erynies) he went the Oracle of Delphi who advised him to bathed at the confluence of the river Evros and the 2 tributaries of Ardas and Tounzas and got rid of Erynies In remembrance of Orestiada, which would later become Uskudama which was the capital of the Thracian Tribe of Odrysses In 127 BC it was named Edirne in honor of the Roman emperor Hadrian In 1361 Edirne was occupied by the Ottomans and in 1920 Edirne was given to the Greeks only for 2 years together with its suburbs with the Treaty of Sevres 10-8-1920 After the Asia Minor catastrophe and the truce of Moudania in October 1922, the 3 forces ceded Eastern Thrace to Turkey and the Greek Army was forced to abandon it. The river Evros was defined as a natural border between Greece and Turkey So Edirne now belonged to the Turks The suburb of Edirne Karagats located west of the river Evros remained in Greece However, at the request of Turkey at the Lausanne conference, the 3 powers(England France Italy) succumbed to the demands of Turkey, which demanded 4 billion gold francs, half of the Greek warships and merchant fleet, the removal of the ecumenical patriarchate from Constantinople, and proposed a referendum. Then the three forces decided to sacrifice Eastern Thrace and so Karagats and the other villages of Edirne were given to the Turks purely for military and economic reasons and to have Edirne train station The uprooted Greek refugees chose the area just 18 kilometers from their hometown, loaded with their memories with ox-carts and others by train arrived where they wanted to build Nea Orestiada with their emblem Iphigenia to symbolize the sacrifice of old Orestiada for the interest of Greece 900 families and with the help of the 11th Dilochia Engineer of the Greek army They built the New town of Orestiada, with perfect streets plan, roads, wide streets, squares, schools, high school, church In 1925 the building of the old station was built because the railway line still existed when Thrace was under Ottoman occupation The intercontinental train of Europe Orient Express passed through Orestiada Station Despite the problems of the new city, the mud and floods of the river Evros that reached the new city or the founding of the new city was a fact. Through the responses of the young journalist of the time and war correspondent Ernest Hemingway, he introduced to the general public the horror of the Asia Minor catastrophe who was present at the population exchange in Thrace and gives shocking descriptions of an era that has marked the souls of Greeks.
