Carlos Gonzalez he did say he isn't into those types of knives though. For someone that isn't really into knives spending $200+ on one is a lot. Just like spending 1000 on a gun if you are not a gun person might be a lot or spending 60000 on a car if you are not a car person. There are better ones out there but for most people that don't know, a knife is a knife, a gun is a gun and a car is a car.
A good 'down to earth' video about what you use. It's not about blade strength or torture tests, it's about ease of use in the day to day that a lot of consumers use these knives for. Very good video.
The only OTF that I can think of with a good drop point is the Microtech Scarab, unfortunately they are a bit pricey; current list price on BHQ is $400/$535 for a non-Marfione Custom. Others have already suggested it but the Zero Tolerance Emerson collaborations are excellent. The 0620/CF models both use premium blade steels and very solid construction. The new 0630 has a very cool blade shape as well, kind of a modified drop point/clip point.
Benchmade 940 ;) The AXIS lock is completely ambidextrous, faster and more ergonomic than an auto, less parts to break than an auto, and the best part..............legal EVERYWHERE 8-)
I have carried autos for 15 years or so. I gave them up for the ZT CF Sinkevich flipper , S35VN or zdp steel, slim, feather weight, ultrafast blade deployment and fits my hand like a glove and the manufacturing is outstanding. Another great knife is the Mel Pardue benchmade auto, very light. For those in states like mine, where autos are illegal, HK makes an auto that is unfortunately AUS8, but the blade deploys buy a lug on the side or by a pivot built into the handle, so it doesn't look like an auto, unless the person examining it knows how to work it, then you're hosed. Buck also makes nicesmooth heavy sv30 auto
So jealous, Tim. I spend six month in NYC and six months in Minneapolis. Both places its illegal to carry a switch blade, although I can "own" one in Minnesota. Since seeing the Rat Worx blades 2 years ago, I can't get it off my mind. BEAUTIFUL!!
I've been searching for a new knife for the last few months, and after watching your video I bought that Zero Tolerance model. That knife rocks! Extremely easy blade deployment, beautifully machined and assembled, and it has a nice hefty feel in the hand. Not a cheap product, but you get what you pay for, and it's US made. Thanks for making this video.
@17:22- I am a knife guy and have been since before I can remember. The two go to knives I use are the Spyderco Endura and the Chris Reeve Sebenza. I have owned and used about a ton of blades - but for some reason these two are the ones I use the most.
I am a knife guy and a gun guy. I had to buy a Rat Worx MRX.......for $320.00 and a tool kit, sharpener, a lighter, a titanium survival container, knife bag to carry 12 knives and a few more things last night. All of it cost me $463.00 and I can't wait for all of it to get here!!!👍👍😎🔪
I highly recommend James Williams knives from CRKT. I have the Hissatsu and Heiho which are both incredible. I personally carry the heiho everyday because the county I work in doesn’t allow blades over 3”. It is very compact. The blade folds nicely inside the handle so you don’t have extra bulk sticking out like you do with a lot of the Spyderco knives as well as most other knives. In my pocket it doesn’t get in my way at all. I love it. I had bought a lot of different knives trying to find MY perfect knife. After I found the heiho I haven’t changed knives since. It’s been 2 years. The hissatsu is a much bigger knife than the heiho, but the blade still nicely tucks inside the handle. The handle is quite thick though and is more suited to self-defense. The video they have on the hissatsu penetrating power is pretty incredible.
I Have carried an auto Benchmade Stryker for many many year, when they issued it to me in Special OPs. It has never once failed to open or work in any manner ever.
The metal inside your folding knives , the part you called a cross block safety is actually called a liner lock system as it locks the blade from inside the handle, hints liner...lock... Hope this helps. Sam
The locks on those folders are called "liner locks" due to the lock being a liner inside the knife as well. That emerson commander has developed what they call "blade play" and if you send that back to emerson they will repair that for you! Next time you're looking for a knife that's high quality and has a drop point, look into Chris Reeve Knives. Their Large Sebenza is THE pocket knife to have.
Any good edc knife needs to have a serrated edge part. For me that is often in a marine environment, including diving a serrated edge slices through synthetic ropes, fishing nets. Even when opening boxes that have thick plastic straps on them, the serrated edge will slice it immediatly.
As a knife guy, that's a hell of a collection for "not a knife guy". If you're looking for a high quality spring assisted knife I would look at Darrel Ralph's Gunhammer series. Some of them have a minute amount of blade play, mine doesn't, but the spring assist mechanism is stupid strong and simple. One stout spring attached to the blade and the liner. However the quality comes with an msrp around $300.
I like the Kershaw Onion series knives, with the thumb assist. I'm a finish carpenter so I'm constantly using this knife to hollow out mitres and trim cope cuts etc. Having to re-sharpen them continuously gives them a useful life of about a year and a replacement cost of $60. For years I carried a really good, zero tolerance, German made switchblade. This was a serious knife, but the risk versus the benefit of one hand opening was too great. I made the mistake of pulling it out in public to cut something and a Detective from the local Sheriff saw it. I was lucky because we were both Veterans and he cut me some slack. So I went with the Kershaw.
I've picked up an OTF habit since relocating from DPDR Kalifornia to Free America, aka Texas. I have a Combat Troodon, a great hair beast of an OTF with a drop point blade, ~3.95", and nearly the same two Ultratechs, both a bead blasted spear point and a black drop point, though the bodies are both black. Also picked up an H&K Tumult OTF in black/brushed (Benchmade, D2 steel) and a Pardue side folding auto in black/black, the sole side folding auto of the group.
Your have a very valid point. Military guys like them because they are a reasonable price. We'll most likely loose it, get it stolen or break it or perhaps the airforce will confiscate it. Why spend a fortune on some super steel etc when you have to replace it. It's just a tool not a nice watch. How many servicemen do you see wearing a Rolex 😊
That wabble that you talked about while you were talking about the Emerson, is one thing that I'm extremely picky about. When I'm looking at buying a knife, that's the very first thing I check.
I'm not a knife guy in the least, but the Fox Dart knife seems like it could be an interesting option. It's got the lip which allows for quick deployment of the blade like the first one you spoke about in the video, but it seems like it's a higher quality knife. What I think is cool about it is the fact that it couples the quick-deployment lip with a ring on the butt-end of the knife to give the user superior retention. I might be wrong, but it seems like it's a great knife for the money.
Dude, Get a Doug Ritter Benchmade Griptilian full sized. You'll be glad you did, it's one of the best folders available and the axis lock is outstanding. Fast deployment and closing with a single hand. and the M390 steel is killer
Zero Tolerance=S30V Blade is a VERY hard steel! That's why it holds it's edge so well... I consider it, "The Poor Man's Strider." If you don't want to spend $500 on a Strider, but you want a very quality knife; get a Zero Tolerance! 0350=$150 (3.25" blade) 0302=$250 (3.75" blade)
Heh, the cool thing about my knives is they're modular, if you beat the crap out of the blade I sell spares, and I machine to ten-thousanth's tolerance on the critical geometries so they just drop right in. No assisted opening or auto mechanisms to have to deal with either, just a good detent and a caged bearing system, so they're legal pretty much anywhere and mechanically much more simple with no compromise to speed ;) Copper Custom could always pick up a few if you don't want one lol, I'm looking for dealers.
I paid $240 for my ZT 0300. So far I've used it to open an ammo can, many pieces of mail, boxes, plastic product packaging, and I also used it to help strip a car (mainly for cutting wires, removing the quarter windows, and I even cut the brake lines with it). I can say it was money well spent. I've beat the hell out of it and the blade is still nice and tight and it is also very easy to get an edge back. The Tungsten DLC even held up to the brake fluid which anyone who knows about cars knows that brake fluid will remove most coatings it is exposed to.
You should have someone that does sharpening and moding fix up the older knives. The Emerson should be able to be fixed, polish the pivot surfaces, then tighten it so the blade doesn't wiggle and locktite it in place. It should work fine then and you could have some lines cut in the G10 to improve the traction. I don't have any experience with OTFs (other then owning a cheap Nato Automatic as a kid) but they should be able to be cleaned and adjusted also. You could also have that black blade on the OTF stripped and stonewashed, it would give it a whole new life.
Tim, If you have not, you should check out the Columbia River (CRKT) knifes. I have the Ikoma Fossil 5471K. I got this one because of the size, it is longer than a typical pocket knife but not to long. It also turned out to be extremely comfortable to hold, the contours are like no other knife I have held. The CRKT knife look nice, feel nice, stay sharp longer and are great tools. Some of their less expensive ones are good value ($20-$40 range) and their higher end knifes are fantastic ($50-$200+). Not a sponsor, just like the brand. I'm not really a knife guy either but I do prefer a nice knife that keeps working and stays sharp as apposed to some $10 el-cheapo that comes dull and need re-sharpening every time you use it.
Can't go wrong with the Emerson Commander. I use mine like it was intended, heavily. I have other knives, Spidey's, Cold Steel, Buck, Kershaw, (No ZTs yet. I have a buddy that pressures me about them but the Commander hasn't failed me yet so I haven't really seen the need with so many guns and ammo to buy) but the Commander is usually in my pocket unless I can't carry a knife. Just tighten the blade occasionally. If corrosion is an issue and you want a light weight folder, try the Spyderco Pacific Salt, also a tremendously useful blade, especially around water or vegetation. I chose the black handle black plain edge blade, good stuff Maynard.
The Emerson you have looks a lot older. The newer emersons I've carried haven't had blade rock issues. Plus with the warranties you can ship them to Emerson and they will replace the liner lock if it's an issue for free I believe.
Military Arms Channel Thanks for sharing your EDC Knife Collection. I have gone to Blade Show the last 4 years and I love going to it. I hope you will come to Blade Show this year. I think you would enjoy it. Even being a major gun guy.
In your next Microtech get the Stonewashed blade or satin if there's no stonewashed available, bead blast is the most likely to rust. Their black coating, like most companies will wear unless its the DLC- that wears like iron. Try a Combat Troodon or regular sized Triodon, then a Scarab. The Tanto blade is very utilitarian and pokes nixes holes in stuff if need be. Try a higher end Spyderco, they make nice knives. If you want one of the ultimate OTF's try a G&G Hawk Deadlock- no blade play at all, user serviceable, and awesome! But it'll cost you gun money. For a side opening auto you MUST GET a Microtech LUDT, the blade will still lock both open and closed even if the spring were to somehow break.
The benchmade afo 2 is a great automatic I carry it every day and that 154 cm blade holds an edge for a really long time and its military spec so it will work in any environment
That Emerson should be able to have a solid lock up without any play and still be able to hook the wave from the pocket and open. Both of mine are very smooth and easy to open and there is no play in the blade when open. Might be something Emerson can fix if you send it to them, for the price of them it should be solid.
I carry a homemade knife made from a file. It not good to use for screws since its briddle file metal, but the edge it holds will cut through anything you need it to. I got bout $10 in it. Was cutting rope about 2 fingers thick the other day.
I personally love the Benchmade Axis lock, it is tough and when done properly (such as on my houge K320) the blade is loose and very easy to flip out. Also the steal use on that ZT is the best, has to be my go to blade steal
I just learned more about knives in 18 minutes than the previous 28 years. I have an Emerson and I like it, but I bought it because the price was too good to pass up.
As of last year I began doing private knife and impact weapon training which totally changed my perspective of quality in knives. Before then you couldn't convince me that anything would beat a Spyderco (although they are great work knives). However if you want an extremely high quality knife check out the Al Mar S.E.R.E. 2000's, on cutleryshop they're a hair under $200 and hands down the best knife I've handled in years along with the MRX's.
I bought a ZT350 in all black, a few months ago. It's my first ZT, Wow, have I been impressed. My results have pretty much mirrored exactly what you said. Opens enthusiastically, with a wee bit of pressure on the assist, held an edge very well, but I have used my tip several times and I knew it was about to break.......never did. Glad to hear you say exactly what I've experienced. I will buy more ZT's in the future. p.s.- Thank You for all the wonderful videos that you routinely produce. p.s.s.- you're right, you aren't much of a "knife guy" ;-)
I own a couple of Spyderco blades and I love them, but I now carry my SOG Trident tanto and it's pretty hard to beat for the price. But for my house blade, I treated myself to a Boker Plus Kressler Subhilt Inergral Fighter. It is a show stopper and a conversation starter, it stays next to my mantle so it's a piece of functional artwork.
The Cold steel knives have the strongest locking mechanism on the market. They easily support 200 pounds of force. They have rather soft steel though. Check out the code 4, ak-47, and lawman knives they offer. I think you'd like them.
TheMotorick I checked them out ,nice . I didn't know about them . Thanks for the info but for now I'll stick with the one I have . Something to look forward to .
Al Codie Agree I love the endura 4. really want a calypso didnt realize how much I loved the look of that knife until spyderco stopped their most recent sprint run of them.
test18258 I just checked out the calypso , very nice , I like the shape of the blade . I recently upgraded my pocket knife . Not because I don't like my endura 4 anymore , its because I was stripping a wire and the breaker was shut off , just not the right one ! I said to my wife " Did you shut off the breaker " yes came back the reply , KERFUCKING SNAP ! It was like a flash from an arc welder , melted out a ¼ inch wide ⅜ inch deep gash out of the blade ! One good thing was I didn't get a shock and I had a great excuse to up grade and my wife agreed :) Any ways I bought a paramilitary 2 and since my anniversary was coming up I bought one for my wife . Mine is camo hers is black and she loves it .
Kershaw makes a knife identical to the ZT with the same "speedsafe" opening. I believe the same steel blade for less than $ 100.00 and it's made in the USA !
Another great video. I've never seen the chain drive by Rat Worx, very cool. Wish I could have one in Commiefornia. Now if Rat Worx would engineer the MRX to be an "assisted opening" chain drive they'd sell a boat load. They should also change the steel to M390 or S30V, but I'd be happy with 154CM. Thanks MAC
Big 3 in folders: Chris reeve sebenza, strider sng, hinderer xm-18. Fixed blade: busse combat then everyone else. Tomahawk: Rmj tactical and then everyone else.
im a collector and user i personally dont like the looks of the strider, hinderer or chris reeves knives....im a fixed blade guy and im mostly concerned with toughness on the blades i carry and looks when it comes to my collection....thats why i love Bark River knives, there gorgeous and they use cpm3v which is one of the toughest out there that also holds an edge and is corrosion resistant (250.00 - 400.00)...for a folder i like the spiderco mannix 2....i also carry occasionally a microtech halo 5 just for fun!!! im thinking about checking out medfords knifes but they get pricey!!
I'm like you Tim, I'm not really a knife guy (but you still appear to be one more than I) - and it sounds like we use our knifes in the same way. I recently picked up a Kershaw Tanto Blur knife, and it's great. Like $50 so if something were to happen to it I wouldn't be totally PO'd (just PO'd that something happened to my knife), but it works well, deploys quickly and so far has been great tool.
I am the same way in that I am not a "Knife guy" but carry one all the time and appreciate a finely made or designed knife. Having said that, if I ever complete my gun collection (as if that were even possible), I might could become a knife guy.
I like your knives. They remind me of old WWII spy movies where the German spy would come up from behind and press the button and the knife would pop out and into the unsuspecting American spy. He would push it again and the blade would disappear. It's probably one of the reasons they have been illegal in so many places. Thanks, Hollywood! They don't deploy out the front, but I like the Benchmade Barrage for a spring assist knife and the Griptillion for a manual knife. Both of them have the Axis lock instead of a liner lock, so you don't have to put your thumb in the blade path when closing.
Blade hq has some OTF knives made by or branded as Heckler & Koch. I can't remember the model but i handled it @ Blade HQ in there show room in Lehi Utah. The HK OTF felt every bit as nice as the microtech and was a bit cheaper too. I'd look into one of them.
not gonna read through 200 comments to see if someone has already suggested it but if you like your emerson and really like your zt you need to get their collaboration, the zt 0620. i finally got a hold of the 0620cf with the carbon fiber scale and upgraded blade steel and love it, solid lock up and smooth as butter
Hey MAC, I know how you appreciate things that function as they're designed. One knife that is very inexpensive yet very under-rated is the MAGIC line of knives from Smith&Wesson. I love my ZT350, but it's just a tad heavy for me to carry at work. My 3 S&W are just the right size for that, and the ZT still hits my pocket when I'm done or have the day off.
In terms of OTF knives though, you got the best option with the ultratech! You could check out the HK OTF line. They got three different models. Asheville steel has some super cool single action OTF knives but I don't know if they are up you ally because I think, since your not really a knife enthusiast, you would so better with a double action OTF than a single... But if you want to check it out, Asheville has some super cool options.... Microtech troodon too! Around the same price as the infidel...
We have no state preemption here in Michigan so local governments almost always enact 3 inch knife ordinances. We also can't have any double-edged knives like daggers, dirks, and stilettos. Anything double-edged can only be used for hunting purposes.
Move. Here in Alabama we aren't allowed to have Bowie knives. There isn't a great definition of what a Bowie knife is, so unless it's written on the blade, you're ok most of the time. Then again, I don't own one of those so I just ignore it like I do to any other law that doesn't affect me. No laws on blade length, no laws against autos, none on daggers, nothing. I love it. Plus we have a beach and "snow" is something you put in a cone; it doesn't fall from the sky and ruin your drive to work. You really should look into it.
Don't get me wrong, I love Michigan. We are rapidly moving toward very pro-gun legislation, which I'm sure will lead to better knife laws. Carrying a 3-inch blade doesn't bother me, if I've got my Glock 19 :)
lol korbyn49 your state beats lots of other states then. I've heard of people arrested for simply carrying ANY knife in some places. New Orleans seems to have a law against tourists carrying them as I've known plenty of people to get arrested the moment they stepped out of their car in that city while carrying small knives, but locals don't get bothered for carrying them. Detroit has some of the dumbest knife laws ever. You can carry a knife, but it can't have a lock. Because that lock is what makes a knife dangerous...
I think thats how it is in any major city, they are looking for"crime". Of course, I'm only 20 and I've had very few police encounters. I'm white in the white part of town so that might have some effect, who knows. Michigan is pretty mediocre in it's arms laws. Not too ridiculous, but not nearly the most freedom
That commander is worth a lot of money. It is at least a 2000 if not older. The model with the screws in the center of the handles signifies that. It also has that special brand logo. I would not be surprised if it was worth $400 or more.
Interesting, but it's just a knife to me. :) The Range Master logo was done because the owner of Range Masters was an investor I believe in Emerson. Brian Bush passed away a few years ago and Range Masters is no more.
That's one of the first few hundred commanders made. They went into production in mid 1998 if I remember correctly. I believe only 200 something knives where made in 98. You have one of the earliest knives emerson made.
xxbryan715xx I remember showing it to a guy at the Emerson booth at the NRA convention a few years back. His eyes lit up saying it was an older one and desirable. He then showed me one of the original 200 knives he said was sold to a customer but they bought it back years later.
That's an old school commander constructed with the 3 screws down the middle..badass(Emerson are my fave) that being said it should not be that loose at all, you could if you wish send it in to Emerson and they will still service it....also for the pivot screw coming loose its recommended you blue Loctite it.
Check out KA-BAR. They make a small fixed blade for EDC (I can't remember the name if it). On their UA-cam channel, they have instructors demonstrating the knife. All you have to do is draw the knife and it's there and don't have to fumble around trying to deploy the blade.
I've recently watched a few knife reviews from people who aren't 'knife guys' and I'm really enjoying them. They don't give a shite about fancy steels, bronze phosphor washers etc, etc. Does it work well? Great! Good knife 🗡!
i use a CRKT M16-14T it has a titanium handle it finger assist im not sure what the blade is made of it may be titanium to but its a great knife for what i use it for it also has a double safety it has a cross block safety and a little swing pin that sit behind it making it very hard for the saftey to move off the blade and cut yourself
I have carried Microtechs and Benchmades as well as others last couple years I have honestly been carrying a Cheap Chinese OTF from BladeHQ called the Lightning OTF for 35 bucks I beat it and it is still chugging along just fine. it ain't pretty but works and if I screw it up another 35 bucks and I get a new one but it has handled tasks I didn't think it would.
You should check out the Cold Steel Recon 1, and or the S.O.G. spring assist knives. I have used these knives for everything from Box opening, to gasket scraping and they're still sharp, still sturdy and don't hurt the wallet to bad, ranging from about 40$ to 85$.
Great video!!. I enjoy all of your videos . Your channel is hands down tops on my list for UA-cam. All other channels seem like they are trying to be tacticool. I appreciate how practical and down to earth the videos are. I used to hate the design of bullpups until I watched the tavor videos. Now I want to buy one. Keep up the good work. Hope your business can continue to grow. I plan on checking your website before I make any purchase so I can support quality. Thanks again and keep them coming.
Lionsteel Knives make very nice knives and not super expensive. They also are very nice looking also. Not sure if they make automatic or spring assisted opening. Regardless they are awesome knives and have great designs.
if you like ZT quality and the Emerson Wave check out the ZT0620. Its and emerson design with the wave feature and instead of of a screw as a pivot it has a big ass bolt that wont loosen up on you. I own the ZT0620 and its my favourite knife.
The ZT0350 has been my EDC since I got it last year. I LOVE this knife. Just don't go to NYC with it. I also recommend a Kershaw Knockout for EDC as well. Another AO knife with a nice steel and it runs about $70 on the River Site.
Try a Kershaw blur in s30v. It is assisted opening and is the best value for money in my opinion. It cost 60 dollars and comes with a s30v bead blasted blade. Please give it a try.
MAC, it seems many people are recently confused about the ATF and the Sig arm brace. The source of this confusion is a recent letter. However, its not illegal to shoulder. Everyone is confused about the letter but let me explain. The shotgun in question had the original intent to never be fired as an arm brace. This classified it as an NFA item. If an AR pistol is built with the original intent of being fired with a single hand, it can be fired by any means with the SB 15 arm brace. This will only ever be changed if the ATF views the arm brace as a stock. The power is in the wording. You have a tremendous following while I have next to zero. If you would help me, please make a video to help everyone know and have the tools necessary to defend their families. Way of the Warrior.
That is where many are confused. The statement reads," The pistol stabilizing brace was neither “designed” nor approved to be used as a shoulder stock, and therefore use as a shoulder stock constitutes a “redesign” of the device because a possessor has changed the very function of the item. Any individual letters stating otherwise are contrary to the plain language of the NFA, misapply Federal law, and are hereby revoked." It does not state that shouldering the device has created a NFA item. It is inferring the arm brace may not be a substitute for a stock on an SBR unless it it approved. However, if you installed the brace with intent to support one handed fire, the ATF does not recognize an incorrect method of firing the pistol. The ATF does not recognize the device as a stock. It is therefore no different than using the second hand as support. It's been the same since day one. Then power is in the wording. If people go around saying they are using the arm brace as a stock, they are only bringing SBR law upon themselves. The rest of us are having fun and shooting with any method we choose
Hey, chances are you wont get this, but I worked on the team the made auto knives legal here in Nevada! So you can in fact bring you autos to SHOT show, you are welcome. As payment, I will certainly take that MRX off your hands...
The Benchmade 2750 Adamas is a real nice automatic knife. Well built and not a safe queen. I use mine everyday and have had no problems. You can find them for around 220 dollars.
Not a knife guy.... Here's my Emerson...Benchmade...Microtech...etc.
Lol
I thought the same thing. Not a knife guy, but they're all $200+ knives. Heck, I AM a knife guy and I don't even have some of those.
$$$$$
There all medium to high end production knives, nothing special compared to a mid tech or a custom knife.
Thanks for making this video.
the Emerson and Benchmade can be sent at the factory for repairs.
When talking about knives it’s nice to know more details about them like what type of steel it is, how it locks and what type of pivot it has
I Have carried an auto Benchmade Stryker for many many year, when they issued it to me in Special OPs.
Two of my Ultratechs have full length serration. Very useful.
I think people are supposed to dislike Kershaw, but every knife I have so far owned by them has been simply awesome.
Was turned onto a Benchmade Pardue a few years ago. Has been a great knife.
take a look at the crkt m16. it has that pocket catch. and they are made well enough to be used by our troops overseas.
Who Doesn't love a sharpened piece of steel!
That wabble that you talked about while you were talking about the Emerson, is one thing that I'm extremely picky about. When I'm looking at buying a knife, that's the very first thing I check.
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 should be in there.
Toki52 nah it's over rated and spyderco's qc has went down man
Andrew Gross I disagree I love my PM2
Josh Arthurs most people do but I can only speak of my experience with the knife and it was not good.
Andrew Gross I very much disagree. Spyderco is one of the best large manufacturer of knives in the business and are much better than Benchmade
i actually like the mannix 2 better....jmho
0350=$150 (3.25" blade)
0302=$250 (3.75" blade)
Pm2 by spyderco is also a great choice
MAC you need a Moon. I can even etch your logo into the scales if you want. There's a world of options when you go custom and hand built.
You do make Awesome Knifes....I got one of your models as a birthday gift two years ago. So please don't stop what you're doing.
If only I could justify something like that. :) I think $200 is a lot for something I beat up! I like your work though, I checked your site out.
Wow, your knives look amazing. Even better that you are in Apex and I am from Raleigh.
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 made in the USA its a great knife
the first knife i bought at the shoppette when i was in AIT was a CRKT M16-14T. Still usin it til today
I love my OTF auto knives, I don't care if they are illegal here in the UK I still use them. Just got 3 new ones last week.
9:57 "I wanted to get another knife for what I use it for, Wich is primarily cut things" LOL
I just learned more about knives in 18 minutes than the previous 28 years. I have an Emerson and I like it, but I bought it because the price was too good to pass up.
ZT makes a couple of Emerson wave knives. ZT 620 and 630. The 620 is a tanto style blade, The 630 is more of a drop point.
I've had expensive knives and cheap knives ,so far the best one is one right in the middle "Spyderco endura 4 flat grind" Its a beauty .
TheMotorick The Spyderco Stretch looks like some kind of retarded duck.
TheMotorick I checked them out ,nice . I didn't know about them . Thanks for the info but for now I'll stick with the one I have . Something to look forward to .
I'm actually about to get one for my 16th birthday. Can't wait.
Mine is camo hers is black and she loves it .
to be honest, stick with folder or spring assisted for EDC unless you want to go back with straight blade, side note those Benchmade are really good
Kershaw makes a knife identical to the ZT with the same "speedsafe" opening. I believe the same steel blade for less than $ 100.00 and it's made in the USA !
The liner lock on the Emerson utilizes a titanium lock bar.
G&G Hawk's new OTF is great. No blade play. You would love it!
Thanks MAC
I carry a benchmade minigriptillian semiserrated. Love it.
Depending on how tall the thumb ramp is on your 0350, you may be able to wave it. My 0200 has a nice tall ramp and waving it works like a charm.
Spyderco para military 2!!!!! It is also s30v and cost 130 on bladehq. You won't regret the purchase
I carry a m16-14sfg, the Carson flipper works very well, I re sharpened it to a 20° angle, works very well for every day use
Benchmade 940, Benchmade 531, Spyderco Paramilitary 2 and Old Timer Landshark.
Military Arms Channel I have the exact same MRX. So far I LOVE it.
not gonna read through 200 comments to see if someone has already suggested it but if you like your emerson and really like your zt you need to get their collaboration, the zt 0620. i finally got a hold of the 0620cf with the carbon fiber scale and upgraded blade steel and love it, solid lock up and smooth as butter
If you look under the emerson logo it will tell you what year it was made. It will either say 98,99 or 2000.
xxbryan715xx It's a 1999.
Id recommend the Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Sometimes they are hard to find in stock but since picking 2 up I never carry anything else.
That's an old school commander constructed with the 3 screws down the middle..badass(Emerson are my fave) that being said it should not be that loose at all, you could if you wish send it in to Emerson and they will still service it....also for the pivot screw coming loose its recommended you blue Loctite it.
I don't want to mess with it, I'll leave it as she is. It served me well over the decade or so that I carried it.
Check out KA-BAR. They make a small fixed blade for EDC (I can't remember the name if it). On their UA-cam channel, they have instructors demonstrating the knife. All you have to do is draw the knife and it's there and don't have to fumble around trying to deploy the blade.
TDI
You don't have to pull the blade out by hand if it doesn't fully deploy. It's a lot faster to just "whip" the knife than pull the blade out by hand.
I've recently watched a few knife reviews from people who aren't 'knife guys' and I'm really enjoying them. They don't give a shite about fancy steels, bronze phosphor washers etc, etc.
Does it work well? Great! Good knife 🗡!
Absolutely love my ZT 0350. Carry it everyday. For the money I really don't think you can get a better knife than a ZT.
On the d/a autos when the knife hits something and stops is more of a mechanical quirk to have the mechanism work both ways than a safety thing
i use a CRKT M16-14T it has a titanium handle it finger assist im not sure what the blade is made of it may be titanium to but its a great knife for what i use it for it also has a double safety it has a cross block safety and a little swing pin that sit behind it making it very hard for the saftey to move off the blade and cut yourself
My favorite carry knife has always been the balisong.
Just like guns, I got in to knives and now have a nice collection of nice knives. They go together.
That looks like a Bulova watch. I was given one as a graduation gift that looks EXACTLY like that one back in 1997 :P
Lionsteel Knives make very nice knives and not super expensive. They also are very nice looking also. Not sure if they make automatic or spring assisted opening. Regardless they are awesome knives and have great designs.
MAC should have a Benchmade Bedlam auto. You won't be disappointed. For a workhorse budget friendly OTF scoop up a Lightning, believe it or not.
i love my ZT 0350, its an awesome backpacking/every day folder, its a tad heavy but its slim and well made
if you like ZT quality and the Emerson Wave check out the ZT0620.
The lightening OTFs on blade HQ are pretty good and are very affordable for an otf and they have a ton of colors available
Try a Kershaw blur in s30v. It is assisted opening and is the best value for money in my opinion. It cost 60 dollars and comes with a s30v bead blasted blade. Please give it a try.
Emersons have come a long way since that iteration of your Commander.
I hear what sounds like renovations for the shop in the background? I hope it's for more wall racks to place rifles and shotguns on!
You should look into Spydercos!
Any individual letters stating otherwise are contrary to the plain language of the NFA, misapply Federal law, and are hereby revoked."
It does not state that shouldering the device has created a NFA item.
I'm into tanto style knifes. Got a bunch. Looking at the H&K tanto. Brother got one and it seemed solid.
AFO11 Benchmade is a tough tacticle Auto and is well thought out and durable
The Benchmade 2750 Adamas is a real nice automatic knife. Well built and not a safe queen. I use mine everyday and have had no problems. You can find them for around 220 dollars.
