Thank you - I knew about the Euryanthe Overture but have never heard or seen the Bernstein VPO version. It featured as part of the same concert as the Brahms Piano Concerto No 1 and the Haydn Symphony 88 (arm's folded when he repeated the final movement as the encore to that concert), so I knew this overture must have been recorded and released somewhere. The Manfred Overture I have seen before - it was released with Mozart Symphony 25 and the Mozart Clarinet Concerto shortly after LB died.

I rather enjoy this short clip than suffer watching Maestro. My opinion.

This is not a short "clip" these two pieces are Overtures not long symphonies ....

Interpretation of Schumann Manfred by Bernstein is the highest point of art. Lots of tempo changings and very tiny rubatos... There is no conductor who has his tecnique. For example 18.28, the tempo is a bit relaxed and ıt is getting fast then. As if a baritone sings instead of cellos. And 19.01 this time first violins do the same and as if a tenor answers to the Baritone. The end of the piece is an art of conducting. Tempo is very slow but very togetherness is very well. He was one of the best...

Am I the only one who notices all the missing people in the orchestra?
