The pause after "and thanks God the game is not broken like that yet" had me cracking up
This video is really constructive I would really like to see videos on medium and heavy mechs too. As a newer player I felt a bit deprived of actual good tactics to use in game. I have a quick question as well, what does 'mech lab loss' mean?
when you feel that no matter what you do, your skill is irrelevant and you lose regardless, even if you have amazing skill.
For example, direwolf vs flea is a mechlab loss for the direwolf
@@JGxDATA Actually I enjoy your help for newer players like me. I played a couple of hours now (around 100). While I'm getting quite comfortable with lights and mediums. I still struggle a lot with assault mechs. For me they are the hardest class to play in quick play. Some advice would be very helpful! thx.
@@4sh2k8 With assaults positioning is incredibly important, even more so than with the faster weight classes. If you are in an annihilator you can't easily back out of a bad move. I see a lot of assault pilots think they are invincible and walk out into the fire with no care for anything, but your armor won't carry you.
Some basic tips:
- Stay with your team. A lone assault is a dead assault.
- Be careful when you push, you can't get out of a bad situation on the quick. But when you do, be decisive and commit to it.
- Please, PLEASE, don't run an lrm assault. Your team needs your armor up front to take the hits they can't take.
- If you are right in front of your team, they'll keep your back clear.
- OVERRIDE
@@SpielkindFR Thx for this little guide!
What is the keyboard shortcut to activate the neurons?
Thank you! I didn't know about the bouncing into rocks in order to glitch the hitboxes. This video was very helpful!
Yup, rocks and staccato jump jetting messes with hit reg a bit.
Hey about 16:22 or so idk what happened but the clip was paused or stayed on that one frame even though we could hear the clip's audio.
sorry, idk what is going on, i'll try to find a link to the clip
Well done. I find that some of the things you are teaching I just do... never really thought about it but I actually did pick up one or two points and I have been playing for years. I disagree on one point. There are times when I 'run ahead' but not to attack.... scouting for the team is important in some matches. Also, sometimes harassment shooting from cover early and then fleeing will break up an enemy murderball by drawing off the 'rabbit chasers'.
4:25 -
me playing urbie with 210 engine and rac-5: "Make me."
but seriously, good tips
Does running into the trees that get knocked down also glitch the hit boxes like hitting rocks does? What about hitting building corners in the city maps?
I can't believe I've played all these years and never noticed the differences in the skill tree based on mech type.
"Complete trash, bullshit, light mech mafia propaganda". My favorite sentence of the day.
Sure, I would do it exactly the same, or at least try, since i am not a good light player, but YES, this is absolutely annoying, somewhat broken and frustrating when u play an Assault or even just a Heavy! Good breakdown of the lightmech-playstyle btw!
ua-cam.com/video/QOivANIon6A/v-deo.html
Imagine it's two or three lights, it's game over, but one skillfull lightpilot is clearly enought!
My advice, if you are in an Assault or Heavy and have to deal with this, always keep walking backwards, that can on rare occasion save your life. If you are dealing with more than one light, or any other assistance the light has, you are literally screwed!
Edit: I just noticed, the enforcer looks like the doomguy, almost LOL
> "How to play lights"
Well, I found the perfect solution for me: I just don't play them. Is it below 40 tons? Nope, not touching that...
Changed up my skill tree on my two “best” light mechs per DATA. I suck at Lights (and in general 😆). It has helped! My scores went up by 50%. Plus, now I have some confidence using the little bastards. Still a heavy/assault guy but in this 8 v 8 stuff, trucking a light is a good strategy for me. Thanx!
And then newbie player happy to face lonely catapult on flank, piloting their broken op piranha. Ready to enjoy free flag, but that was splatapult.
Interesting style of presentation…
Have you got a Locust video I can watch you put this stuff into play?
5:40 this tactic is true as you going to pick battles at the edges of their defenses,
but 7:40 tactic is practically flawed since you might end up splitting the team into a lance of wolfpack while the rest of the team dies and if you do this alone, you won't pull it off that easy.
That hit reg stuff blew my mind
You're the best UA-camr for MWO tips and practical knowledge. I enjoy watching dudes like TTB, NGNGalaxy etc, but they either don't get into the details like you do at all (or possibly even know them ; ) .
Harass, provide line of sight, don't get shot
Lights is about spotting, hit, and run.
I get what you are saying about light mechs vs sniper builds, but lights are the only reliable thing to counter snipers in good positions. Otherwise sniping would be worse than it already is. If he brought quad gauss, then he knows the risks in the mech lab.
Lights aren't the only counter to snipers just play out of their sight lines or brawl rush them
Light mech mafia propaganda 😂
Great patience in life, horrible patience in PvP games. Gotta work on that…
How much of this is still viable?
Now I won't barf when I'm dead and spectate light mech pilots thanks alot XD
Mistake 1 - killing the game
😗👌
In pug bum rushing with 1-2 stealth lights properly on a small map is EXTREMELY effective. It throws the enemy team completely off and you can potentially land a fantastic artillery strike on their grouped up assaults.
You haven't covered a really popular headless-lazor-chicken strategy which is very unfortunate;D
Otherwise - thanks for solid piece of knowledge;)
Jesus thx Data. I have 3000+ hours in MWO and still didn't know some of this stuff. Thx so much!
I see your Piranha also is painted like a Rick Dom
Thanks for this brief lecture. I'm less hesitant to use my Light mechs now.
I don't feel it's a failure of game balance at all. The game requires teamwork. If you're built as long range support, of course a brawler will stomp you up close. I specialize in light mech hunters, and I know that after I zoom out in front to catch any nascaring folks, I'm going to drop back and cover the most obvious snipers and lrm boats that I have on my team. That was a fail on that team, not that mech.
You seem to be implying that any mech should be able to fight any other mech, which goes directly against what you said earlier in the video, so I just don't know what you're wanting out of this game.
If sum1 asks for help its my duty as a light to back that lad up
In no world, videogame, tabletop, or even real world, if you want to go that far, should a 30-tonner be able to easily kill a 100-tonner with machine guns. Are you aware that this whole leg-humping exploit (and exploit it is, it is not even a gameplay) is only available because 1) PGI can't do a proper mech scale, 2) PGI is too inept at implementing melee/mech physics, 3) PGI can't balance/properly implement TT rules at all? This is not only a failure of a game balance; it is a complete failure of the elementary game design. Lights have many uses in Battletech. Soloing anything heavier (let alone assaults) is not among them.
You're absolutely right on all counts. I think being able to kick a light mech would change everything about this tactic.
I’ve seen fools repeak literally the exact same spot, and suck start gauss or other PPFLD that way. Some people just don’t learn.
My Game experience with light mechs got much better, after watching this Tips. Thank you DATA, for youre amazing work here.
I feel personally attacked starting at 4:14 lol. That said if you ECM and JJ's I personally think bum-rushing the enemy jumping up and ticking them once or twice is a fantastic way to cause their entire team to lose momentum.
I really enjoyed this Data, please keep releasing more content like this because there are hardly any similar instructional MWO vids on UA-cam like rhis one and even fewer from such a qualified player. Thank you.
Very informative, some things I have doing by instinct alone. This video confirms I was right. I also learned from your lesson as well. Thank you !!
I still disagree about balance. Seismic sensor and a team that does not rotate and voila`, snipers are relativly safe
This guys a virtuoso. All of us regulars can only hope to slow him dowm
Thank you thank you.i've learned so much
I really like how you break this info down. Very relatable and understandable. Looking forward to checking out the rest of your catalog!
Fat mechs need seismic, skinny mechs need armor. =)
Man such skill. I AM Humbled
Love this kind of content!!
thank you that really helps
Sempre meglio questo content!
Thank you Data!
6:32 ...guilty
Hey D A T A! What does the HXP symbol mean in your skill tree?
historical xp gained prior to the skill tree existence and never used
21:30 - 25:00 add melee and grater enemy hit collision
,Ram collision damage,
WTF u got a MWO-Tactic-planer? Are u kidding me? lol
You thought JGx just win without planning? Most units do this... they just do it extremely well!
@@gbprime2353 well, I am no comp player, just walking around around with some friends looking for fist fights^^
Phenomenal guide! I learned a great deal about using light mechs!
The biggest lesson I've learned is: NEVER count on your teammates for anything. They are either too slow, too stupid, or not paying enough attention to adjust to handling an objective in any reasonable amount of time. Everyone else needs to be thought of as a pile of mashed potatoes piloting a 32 kmh mech for a light pilot to survive and do its job. This sounds like a really mean thing to say, but trying to win the game with teamwork doesn't work for a light as nobody will be there, or care enough, to work with you. This is especially true when every med, heavy, and assault makes like a trailer park girl and goes around the outside.
You go on enormous tangents and generally take way too long to get to the point. You wasted a lot of my time.
22:30 I don't feel like it's that broken. Piranha borders on broken, but the problem with that Night Gyr was that he was standing alone miles from his friends. My defense against light Mechs is my friendly mediums.
He literally has a friend some meters away and another going for the back some 10 seconds later. The Gyr lost one leg even before anyone else could know what was going on. What does 800m effective range weapon builds have to do, stay 400m away from the enemy team so they can be surrounded by brawlers? At that point you just get a brawler build
Hi Data, is verything ok? It's quite a while you do not publish MWO content...
I am waiting for mw5 clans. RN i can't tolerate that trash that Tyos and Navid have done with the game "balance". It's simply not a fun experience to have for me
@@JGxDATA Good to know you're fine! Are those names from the Cauldron members or Piranha Games programmers pool?
tiyos both, navid only cauldron, but those are only the ones with the most power, the others are still all responsible, with few exceptions...
people like justcallme ASH and MR somaru also played a big part in the downfall of this game
