I am SO jealous of that Tall Stacks deck!!! As a kid, Cincinnati would have the Tall Stacks Festival every few years. It would last a week or two, and steamboats from all over the US would come into town. Unfortunately, the last one was in 2006... As a kid, it was so amazing to not only see, but take a ride on the different steamboats.
That is an impressive collection. It was amazing to see a playing card collection almost as big as mine (infinitely better organized though). Lots of fun to see some similar decks. Also a huge Jocu fan.
I’d bet Jose would say Cardistry Con if you’re into those kind of decks, but there is an annual convention held by the 52+ Joker club that is specific to card collectors. It’s very reasonable to join the club price wise, and you get to meet not only collectors but designers like Jackson Robinson, Lorenzo (Stockholm 17), Sherman Tsao (Caratcases), and so many more. The convention is in Niagara Falls this year and happens in October!
I wouldn’t say a hefty bag lol but definitely are in DS1 or acrylic cases to display and protect them, But still visible though! I can see why some people will have mix opinions on why we don’t open them but I mean at the end of the day i know some people that collect sports memorabilia and have never played football themselves or some people that collect guitar picks or guitars and can’t even play one so I guess it’s mostly up to the person collecting on what they get out of there collection as far as joy, satisfaction or enjoyment and happiness, Mines definitely the satisfaction of buying enough decks to open and enjoy and still have some extras to open in the future or of course to sell/trade etc to get more decks and so on and so fourth !
It’s a great point, but I actually do open tons of these decks including more rare or sought after decks. I like to buy extras in order to preserve decks for future generations to enjoy as well!
I understand the questioning of not opening certain decks, but it’s part of the hobby in my opinion just like some people collect shoes and don’t wear them, or comics that will never be enjoyed by a reader, but at the end of the day it’s about what the deck is worth to you not about money not about what the deck is famous for but what it means to you in a personal level, I myself have a lot of unopened decks and just seeing them sealed give them more value to me knowing they’ll be/last a very long time In my collection and when the day comes I can still enjoy the deck just like the first day it was printed, And at the same time it’s the feeling of opening the deck for the first time is what is meaningful to me, I mean that’s what this hobby is all about to enjoy what you collect and to use the decks weather it’s for cardistry or card magic, 🤙🙏
@@jgpcardistry620 How would you feel if you did open one or two decks one day, and only to find there is a card missing, or cut in half (by that time you will not be able to get a replacement deck(s). This happened to me, but I only found out because I had opened the deck.
