Use to love listening to these tunes as a child during downtime of Channel 4 Back in the 1980's, Switch on tv at home with family at weekends and during school holidays to find the testcard with great music., i even remember the runup to launch of Channel 4 way back in November 1982 and this music was play during there trade tests transmission, Happy days.
Thank you for this. Disco Dive & Fast Fistful are favourites. Added to my channel's playlist, 'Music For Bunking Off in the 1970s/1980s''. I think the title speaks for itself. ;-)
This is great. I loved these synth tunes (seemed so modern at the time!) and made recordings off the telly on my old cassette recorder! Needless to say, this is much better quality. Thanks!
@@dvidclapperton Yes, they added those two on because the Carmen Suite tape ran to only just over 50 minutes, and they wanted to make the running time of the combined compilations up to 3 hours! The complete "Almost Together" tape was eventually re used to compile the final 3-hour programme when 21 Denmark Street arrived about a year later.
19:44, Autorythm yeah that’s the one I was waiting for and the other Fast Fistful. That’s cleared up a mystery for me. I wonder if Tim Cross is the musician that worked with Mike Oldfiel?, another mystery to solve.
@@dvidclapperton They were added as "fillers," because the running time of Carmen Suite fell well short of the hour. The "Almost Together" tape was also re-used in its entirety as the second hour of the 1983 compilation "Colour Supplement," which was "And I Love Her" (minus the first track), "Almost Together" and "21 Denmark Street."
Initially, we only got to hear the first 55 minutes of these tapes. This meant that the music would fade in the middle of "Planters Punch." It was several weeks before we finally got to hear "Fast Fistful." After the tapes were combined into three's, a full play of the tape became the norm.
And there's a video on UA-cam where it was also played during BBC2 continuity just before programmes started for the day. I will find the link and post it here.
"video paused. Continue watching?" This infuriating thing UA-cam keeps doing endlessly gets on my nerves, but I've never had it on any of the test card videos before. I wonder why it singled this one out to do it on

I heard it every day for 2 months in the summer.

That's just what I used to do!
It was great when you heard Almost Together and Ten Four at the end of the 3 hours when they played the 3 x 3 hour long tapes.

Yes it is
Thanks for the confirmation.
Great keyboard skills!
Totally adore our gorgeous David Snell at 8:10
Fantastic collection, Dragon! My collection for the 1982 to 1986 period is complete (apart from the classical tape). Brilliant work!
The last 2 tracks of the classical tape were the first 2 tracks of the Almost Together tape.
Do you have the 3 hours tspe Paths of Progress/Grooved Root/Csrmen Suite to upload on UA-cam?

happy day memory music forever live
Great to see this one reappear in my Liked Videos list.
Thank you so much for this!
Are these things uniquely British, or did other countries have this marvelous now mostly forgotten genre of library music.
To my ears, that first tune sounds almost Emerson, Lake and Palmer-esque with the crazy keyboards. Except, of course, it doesn't go on long enough!
The 4th tune was once used on Sunday Sport on RTE Radio 1 in Ireland.
And here by the IBA (30 seconds in): ua-cam.com/video/D6_6EL5OTaw/v-deo.html
And there's a video on UA-cam where it was also played during BBC2 continuity just before programmes started for the day.
I will find the link and post it here.
The track @ approx 26:30 sounds a bit like Country Express.
Grooved Root to follow this tape, then it's the Carmen Suite.
Track 2, Disco Dive was used by HTV as an interval track.
And also on S4C's Logic Circuit tape.
Love the bluegrass track around 26.30!! Ye ha!!
Very country and western. The one before that made me think of The Grand old duke of york.
It sounds like Country Express.
Just before Misty River, there's a track that makes me think of the Coronation Street theme.
Great!

It sounds like someone's digital watch is announcing the hour at 23:15!
did the channel 4 test card have a name? - if not i'll call it THE FIREPLACE
The IBA called it the ETP-1. Electronic Test Pattern 1.
Love this what song is 37:31

Do you have Progress by Andy Clark?
Has anybody tried to copy the women's high pitch "ah ah-ah ah-ah....." on Misty River.
No. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 !!
19:42
10:02
34:32 and 37:52
34:32 sounds the same artists on the second last track of The Theme and the fourth track of Barnyard Bounce. But I don't know the title of it.
When analogue (not Charles) was king.....
