“Make habits.” You cannot think your way into a new way of living, you have to live your way into a new way of thinking. Best life advice I have ever received!!!
I prefer the stoics myself Amor fati, memento mori... all that good stuff 😉😅 but if Aristotle is your thing, might I respond with this “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”. Well I’ve entertained the thought of discipline... 😉😉😂👌✌️🤘🖖
“Don’t make goals, create habits.” This is the best advice I’ve ever been given. I’m not self-disciplined. I love Bible study but life’s chores get in the way. What I’ve experienced is that, whenever I do that studying for an hour or so, I’m much more productive throughout the day because my spirit has been lifted. I’m going to make daily study not a goal, which is for the future, but rather a habit, which fulfills the now. Thank you for this advice/encouragement. I tend to let the trivial fill my time. Ironically, I get more tediousness accomplished when I feed my spirit first.
True that! I decided about 35 years ago to make spending an hour in God’s Word, first thing in the morning, the priority of my life. I pray, ask God to take over my life for the day, ask for the Holy Spirit to teach me, drink two glasses of water and begin to study. Been doing it ever since. You would probably be hard pressed to find a Bible with as many notes written in it as mine. Thousands of hours of notes. Often I read stuff in those notes that I didn’t even know that I knew. But it comes back to me. Anyway, if you do that, you will not regret it! As you read, thoughts will come to your mind, for example short comings, stop right there and ask God to help you overcome it, or start practicing it, or whatever the case. God bless your effort to create this new habit if you haven’t already!
Kelly, I read 1 proverb each morning. Then find something else inside my bible to study at night. It's full of post it notes highlight Mark's underline and notes in margins. Ahhhhhh the peace of knowing God is in charge
My wife and I like to say things like "there's just not enough time in the day" when in reality, we make our days short by wasting them. Maybe not a positive note, but definitely something I think others can relate to.
Can relate. To turn that thought into a positive: we choose how to spend our time. In other words. The next time you think “there’s not time for this”, change that to “I choose not to make time for this.” It helps you figure out what is actually important for you. Aristotle: “We are what we habitually do.” Habitually choose how you spend your time, in accordance to what is important to you.

Also his works were stolen from 7 other scientist and his papers mostly written by his wife. But he had connections. When questioned about the details of "'his"' theory by a schoolgirl in New York he could not answer the question. The MC of the event gave the "'genius"' more time to recall, he could not. Fraud!

This year I’ve lost 84 pounds since May. For me, I just woke up one day and decided enough is enough I need to get healthy. I now go to the gym every other day to lift weights and I only eat healthy foods. The biggest drive for me was craving a healthier, leaner body. By being more active and eating healthier it will also affect your overall perspective on life. I’m trying to get my parents on board, especially my dad, but you can’t beat a dead horse. You really need that internal drive to make it; at least for me I did. I did set a long term goal, but once you see progress after a little bit, you realize it’s not as hard as you thought and eventually it will become a habit.
Anti-SJW great job brother! Internal motivation definitely helps and you’ve got to ride that wave while it’s there The challenge comes when the motivation subsides - that is when the habits you’ve built will come in handy To piggyback on John’s excellent video, you can’t win or even compete in a race without taking the first step, then the second, then the third…
I also tried to get my mom in shape and she always said that time was over for her , well guess what after 2 years of her seeing me go to the gym she finally decided to do something for her health ! Keep at it and lead by example
I doubt you would share my opinion on the matter, but I do recall Jesus supposedly said something on that topic... “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. My kingdom is from another place” I’m afraid I can’t remember the chapter and verse off the top of my head (it’s been a VERY long time since I was a Sunday school teacher 😉😅😅 to quote from your favourite book again “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me”) but from his own words it’s still pretty clear even Jesus himself wouldn’t have agreed with you on that one 😉😂😂✌️🤘🖖

Young Christian and new gun owner. My pastor and his kid have all started shooting together and are all noobs. We found your channel and have really enjoyed it. You are stern and sincere, it is obvious you are not messing around. What we like most is you are a gentleman about it. We have started to use your videos and tips and go over safety each time we go out, the way you teach it. Thank you for you time, advice and videos. We truly appreciate it. God Bless. My "goal" (habit) I am going to start working on first is my morning routine. Up early & Bible study w/ one of Gods greatest gifts, coffee.
I have been meditating every day for the last six years. My meditations have all centered on one word: gratitude. Gratitude is one of the cornerstones of my life and I have been carrying that word for 6 years.
Thanks John, in 2020 I’m gonna be a better husband and father to my wife and kiddos. Gonna invest ample quality time in my family. I try to do that anyway but, this year I need to make more of an effort to put work aside and just do a better job of being a great dad and husband. Thanks for all the work you do.
Benjamin Eadie, so far, so good. At least I still get to sleep in the bed. 😉😉 But really, it’s going great. We have 5 kids (25 yrs boy/girl twins, 24 yrs girl/girl twins and a 17 yr old boy that we adopted when he was born).Only the 17 yr old lives at home. But with the virus going around out of the oldest set of twins, the girl and out of the youngest twins is working at hospitals. They are going to school for RN. The boy of the oldest twins and the other girl of the younger twins works outside the house. My youngest boy helps me with my woodworking business. I’ve been taking it easy with the business and doing stuff as a family. Everyone has a day that they can pick what they want to do. As in yesterday, for example, we all went fishing. The day before that the wife and I went to a park and hand fed wild squirrels and looked at the flowers. The flowers were her idea but the squirrels were mine. My grandpa and I used to do that at the lake. I had about 20 of the around me and maybe 10 up in my lap. We had a good time. But we’ve been doing stuff like that as a family when the kids don’t have to work.

Great video! My priest gave me this advice about my writing (and my prayer life). The way he phrased it was, "Consistency first. Quality will follow." I'm trying to get back into my old habit of writing 30 min a day, even if it's garbage, and maintaining my daily prayers, even when I'm distracted.
John wakes up, and he prays. Thank the creator of this universe for the mercy he has shown us by allowing to wake up, many go to sleep but never wake. Good job John.
Agreed! I wake up each day and THANK THE LORD for the gift of another day of life. I thank him for EVERY BREATH and it has become a habit. It seems like something small and perhaps obvious, but it really helps me to keep things in perspective and to remain humble and grateful before God.
“I’m acting like I just got here; I’ve been here for hours, we just thought it’d be more engaging for me to walk down the street, carrying an African war club.” 🤣😂 the realities of good video-filming 👌🏻 Awesome content, definitely needed the reminder - I’ve had great discipline in the past but I’ve dealt with some health issues for several months and I’ve let a few areas of discipline such as my workout routine slip off the wagon 😐 Time to get back on it!
One thing about discipline is that as you develop it you feel better about yourself. What you say you are going to do you follow through on and that infuses confidence and a sense of purpose. You build greater trust in yourself and that overcomes doubt. It also increases our capacity
Good vid. "Every man should sit in quiet contemplation for 20 minutes every day. Unless he is too busy. Then he should sit for an hour." Mental rehab is important. Morning is best.
I enjoy cigars for that reason, go outside sit back and just think for an hour or so. Having the cigar keeps you from mentally wondering too far and keeps you aware because you have a simple task to do keeping it lit and simple actions that keep you physically engaged. You can keep on track and really go through and solve life’s things just by thinking about them.
So can't necessarily say I'd do that but all day Saturday and Sunday morning in the deer stand, that's my mental rest/ de stress time. Then I'm clear and relaxed for Sunday afternoon with the wife. After deer season still use my crow and coyote hunting for the same purpose
Some men can operate near those levels of temptation...where the interlocking fields of fire of a combined regimental-sized ambush consisting of flanking pawn shops, E-1 financing-and-up used car lots, surplus stores, tattoo parlors, and strip clubs are waiting for them outside of the main gates of their duty stations. Others succumb to the dark side and get chained to a dependapotamus who knows their Leave and Earnings Statement blocks far better than them from the prior 3 marriages under different names, so she can collect multiple retirement stipends if she plays her cards right.
Habits I want to form for this year. 1- Exercise. I will start with 10 minutes a day, and work up to 30 minutes. 2- Read for work. 30 minutes a day. (job is an academic desk type job, so it will develop my job knowledge.) 3- Dry fire my pistol and rifle every day. 3 minutes of each. 4- After work time, walk away from the work. Be with my family, not at work. They are good goals. 1 is for me. 2 is for work. 3 is for my protector development. 4 is for my family. I think its a good combination.
Why not 10 minutes of pistol a day and like 20 minutes of rifle once a week. Your pistol is what you are likely to use to defend yourself because it is what you have with you daily.
I don't know how to do any of type 4, if I get into anything (which is hard) but if I do, it's really hard to mentally disengage afterwards. So for the rest of the day I'd be thinking it over and over again. The way I like to accomplish things is by doing a little bit of all the things I wanne do, so it's hard when I can't disengage and transition into another topic.

I really loved every aspect of this video. I've been a big fan and have watched tons of yall videos. I'm a big fan how your not afraid to mention your faith or how your wife and family are a big part of your life. I've been getting up at 5ish. It's hard to always stick with it every morning and fight the urge to hit that snooze. I want to pack so much in those two hour before work, and have been unsuccessfully. I really appreciate the starting off slow. I'm going to really commit to going to my knees first thing instead of the coffee pot every morning. Then I will schedule my study time and fitness. Kudos to you Brother.
Mr. Scott You can do it! Practice getting up within five seconds of the alarm going off. You stay in bed any longer and it becomes a debate between getting up or hitting the snooze button. You will lose that debate!! Best wishes to you!
Creating habits and substitute bad for better are two most important tools in our toolbox. And it takes time to master their use The time to create new habit depends on familiarity of attempted actions If you're creating habit which in some form relates to something you're already doing habitually AND you are able to see/understand connection, then the time frame is shorter (11 days in some instances) If you are venturing into absolutely new territory than it can take up to 3 months Thats why there is such a thing as 100 days grace period To create new habit is to make unknown familiar Starting with 'low bar' helps because you're doing small change which does not affect your life in too disturbing way Once you are familiar with that small action, you've got a bridgehead from which you can expand your habit Creating new habits closely relates to elimination of bad habits You simply don't have enough time for both, good and bad ones Eliminating bad/old habits is changing familiar into unfamiliar Here comes the second advice from video, => substitute Find something similar but better (even just slightly better) and substitute After some time, when the old faded into unfamiliar, substitute the slightly better for something better. Rinse and repeat
Dude just for the record, I subscribed because you just mentioned Jesus, the Bible and prayer. I'm sold. Seriously I'm glad you're bold to say it and not ashamed. Where do you live I want to be one of your neighbors :-) and serve. God bless my friend. Stay true.
I'm so bad at self discipline ! However after listening to this I already feel empowered. I've set a time limit for a good habit that I will begin tomorrow.
it'll never happen because people are too emotional so they only act when the emotion is strong. you have to learn how to depress your emotions so you can just function and follow through without the need for emotional motivation. its not natural to be emotionless. some people are more sociopathic so its easier for them to just do things without feelings pulling at them.
Be discipline and scroll back up ☝️ to focus on the video until the end. Make it a habit to read the comments/leave a comment after you've watched the whole video. Stay focused! 😉
Some people can do both, and my time is precious. I either watch a video at 1.5x or 1x w/comments. As he gets into a sentence that grinds my brain a bit I stop typing, but what he's saying here today isn't something mind bending like first vs second plane reticles, so I'm pretty secure in saying I can do both during this video.
@@HuntingTarg Yes, I should clarify, I'm not commenting on the video until the end, but I'll reply to comments I disagree with while watching: generally though I'm only reading comments to see what others are addressing so at the end of the video I know what comment is constructive to the conversation.
Great advice! I would like to add something I've been using: get started with the smallest amount of work possible. If you want to do something but lack the discipline, you can just do the minimum amount of work. For example, if you want to start reading books, tell yourself to read just one sentence. Once you have gotten the book, went to wherever you read books, gotten your glasses, turned on a light and turned to the right page you will not stop at that one sentence. One of the hardest things relating to discipline is to get started and this really helps with that.
Man, I love 90% of what Jocko has to say, but sometimes he just seems so far ascended that he is out out touch on some subjects. Discipline being one of them. Like, if he hovered over me, im sure he could teach me discipline- but just hearing him talk about it, I feel lost.
This is a really practical vid, thanks...."Discipline is doing what you don't want to do right now so you can get what you really want later" - Maxwell.
Excellent instruction! I probably ought to listen to this first thing every morning! I've always set BIG lofty goals, only to in the not too distant future find them unmet. Go big or go home, that's me, that's how my family knows me. So, I go big and then go home to the same ole me. Tomorrow I will sit and think about what you shared, and then I will take an inventory of my habits good and bad, develop a plan to get rid of the bad habits. Then having done that I will prioritize the habits which I want to weave into my life, choose 2 or 3 of the highest on my list, and then set attainable milestones by which to measure my progress. It shall be done!!!
Weird as it is, I said I was going to do it, and it took a little while but I just did it. It just happened over night one day. I don't have it in all areas, but in some important ways it just happened as far as getting into shape. I finally be ame an early riser. Awake up to 3 hours before the sun and I don't go to bed any earlier. I'm also unmarried, no serious relationship and no kids at 38 years old so I have unimaginable reserves of untapped energy lol. The hardest step for me, shit the only hard step was the first. Once I finally just did it, I've been doing great for a year and a half. I've become a new person. God bless, anyone out there, you can literally do anything you truly want badly enough. If you don't do it, you didn't want it badly enough. Oh yes, start slow. Don't kill yourself on day one, start slow and build. That helps.
This popped up in my feed today and I’m glad it did. Really needed to hear the tip on making habits vs goals. Been trying to do that lately to improve myself and while it sometimes doesn’t feel like your moving forward it all about developing the habits. Thank you!
Hey John theres a great app I use for this exact thing called “streaks” it helps you set habits and string them together every day your streak gets longer and you can see on a calendar and then you don’t want to break the streak!
I completely forgot how to take care of myself while I was depressed and now that I'm working on building myself back up the thing that made the biggest difference for me has been building better sleep habits. Wake up 30 minutes before the fajr prayer, after that read Quran until sunrise and immediately after ishaa I'm in bed. Since I've started doing that I've been able to give up weed, cigarettes, and drinking; I make all 5 prayers every day when I could maybe sometimes do 1 a month before; I'm better at keeping up with hygiene; discipline starts with waking up in the morning. It sounds simple until you've had to live a life where it's difficult to even get that far. I've finally reached a point where I can be proud and grateful of what I've accomplished and it all started with waking up. Keep up the good work man.
Ol' trooper here from the 82nd. Your best vid ever. Used to teach survival training based on the Mors Kochanski saw, "the more you know, the less you have to carry." And you know as well, the single biggest survival skill one can have is to think calmly and clearly. And Teddy R's old saw of "do what you can with what you got where you are" is foundational to the OODA loop. So glad to see this kind of talk as one tires of EDC and gear vids. Great stuff, "build habits, not goals" and find substitutes for what needs replacing in your life. Which is the embodiment of Mark Twain's old saying, "Habit is habit and not to be flung out of the window by any man, but coaxed downstairs a step at a time." - Pudd'nhead Wilson's Calendar. Now just "why" would I be so locked on to what you've done here? Simply because what Twain also said about habits is very true..."You can't reach old age by another man's road. My habits protect my life but they would assassinate you."- 70th birthday speech, 1905 So it's not the goals (another man's habits) but rather the habits you develop that guarantee your success, or failure. Blessings to you brother, stay strong in the faith.
I really like this video. I think a lot of people needed this, and more need to watch it. One of my big challenges to try to squeeze in is exercising/working out. I am very active due to the nature of my job and personal life. I work in a mine and live in the country so I’m always moving, lifting, climbing, working in some physical form. I get up at 4:30, go to work, come home at 6:30 or so. I have basically one day a week to do stuff for myself and my family. It doesn’t leave a lot of room for me to do anything else. I’ve made a point of this year, trying to do some basic workout stuff each evening before getting a shower. Push-ups sit ups that kind of stuff. Haven’t been the best with it to be honest. Some days I come home filthy and covered in mud. I just want to shower and something to eat and then go to sleep. But at the same time I don’t want my family to feel neglected so I try to spend some type of time with them. Maybe watch an episode of their favorite show, play with some Legos, play outside for a bit. I don’t know if this is lacking discipline per say, but I definitely struggle keeping a workout routine. I don’t want to turn into the fat dad bod type but I feel like it may be inevitable
Amador Delatorre it’s an open air mine. We have all kinds of equipment to maintain that keeps us pretty busy. Belt conveyors and heavy machinery. Some times you shovel rocks and mud all day cause there was a big spill. Sometimes you are putting on a harness and climbing up structures to weld or fix something. Keeps you moving most days. According to my phone I average around 10k steps a day and about 120 flights of stairs. I don’t have it on me all the time though. Sometimes you know you are about to get wet and nasty and you leave it somewhere safe

"Excellence then is not an act, but a habit." -Aristotle
Excellent quote! And now it’s on the fridge.

“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” - Will Durant paraphrasing Aristotle
I prefer the stoics myself Amor fati, memento mori... all that good stuff 😉😅 but if Aristotle is your thing, might I respond with this “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”. Well I’ve entertained the thought of discipline... 😉😉😂👌✌️🤘🖖
It's amazing that someone from 340 BC figured this out.

That's awesome. I'll have to remember that quote.

Internal motivation definitely helps and you’ve got to ride that wave while it’s there
The challenge comes when the motivation subsides - that is when the habits you’ve built will come in handy

I’m afraid I can’t remember the chapter and verse off the top of my head (it’s been a VERY long time since I was a Sunday school teacher 😉😅😅 to quote from your favourite book again “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me”) but from his own words it’s still pretty clear even Jesus himself wouldn’t have agreed with you on that one 😉😂😂✌️🤘🖖

Thanks John, in 2020 I’m gonna be a better husband and father to my wife and kiddos. Gonna invest ample quality time in my family.

Habits I want to form for this year.
1- Exercise. I will start with 10 minutes a day, and work up to 30 minutes.
2- Read for work. 30 minutes a day. (job is an academic desk type job, so it will develop my job knowledge.)
3- Dry fire my pistol and rifle every day.
Excellent list I hope you don't mind if I shamelessly steal 1 or 2 items
@captain obvious Pretty much every great leader in modern history was also a prolific reader. People who don't read tend to be intellectually stunted.

Creating habits and substitute bad for better are two most important tools in our toolbox. And it takes time to master their use
The time to create new habit depends on familiarity of attempted actions
If you're creating habit which in some form relates to something you're already doing habitually AND you are able to see/understand connection, then the time frame is shorter (11 days in some instances)
If you are venturing into absolutely new territory than it can take up to 3 months
Thats why there is such a thing as 100 days grace period
To create new habit is to make unknown familiar
Starting with 'low bar' helps because you're doing small change which does not affect your life in too disturbing way
Once you are familiar with that small action, you've got a bridgehead from which you can expand your habit
Creating new habits closely relates to elimination of bad habits
You simply don't have enough time for both, good and bad ones
Eliminating bad/old habits is changing familiar into unfamiliar
Here comes the second advice from video,
=> substitute
Find something similar but better (even just slightly better) and substitute
After some time, when the old faded into unfamiliar, substitute the slightly better for something better.

Whoa! Curious, what is it that you do for work?
Amador Delatorre it’s an open air mine. We have all kinds of equipment to maintain that keeps us pretty busy. Belt conveyors and heavy machinery. Some times you shovel rocks and mud all day cause there was a big spill. Sometimes you are putting on a harness and climbing up structures to weld or fix something. Keeps you moving most days. According to my phone I average around 10k steps a day and about 120 flights of stairs. I don’t have it on me all the time though. Sometimes you know you are about to get wet and nasty and you leave it somewhere safe
Just had to dig this video out again just to say thank you. My life was on a serious downturn and I was feeling really down about everything, this video among a couple of others have me words of encouragement I didn't realise I needed. Fast forward seven months to today and I couldn't feel better about myself, there's a longer trail to hike up ahead but I'm ready to tackle it head on.
Thanks again you beautiful bunch of bastards.
Just seeing this 11 months later, and I hope you've turned that downward spiral into an upswing, whoever you are.
@@BuckFoeJiden life is leaps and bounds better than it was this time last year but still working on it. Thanks for caring.
@@AMillar1 you're welcome man. Glad you're doing well.

Great video John 👍 my next habit is to read more books especially the Bible

We all eventually face problems and obstacles that we can’t force our way through. I don’t like to underestimate the power of will, but it isn’t the only tool in the shed.
This guy. Man every single one of his videos I saw "Wow" at least 10 times. Keep rocking, John and the WPS!
"Jesus did it". Amen. You got my vote.
1/4 of the population, at best, isn't "taking over the world."
@@TheGunguy461 what a pitiful "man" you are... nothing better to do than regurgitate your ignorant comment to everyone that appreciated John's shout-out to Jesus. You obviously don't even understand what was said. Funny thing is... your scoffing was expected and predicted by the very man you ridicule.
@@charlie10tango39 You obviously don't understand math.
@@TheGunguy461 Thank you for proving that you don't understand what was said in the video. It's not a matter of math. It is about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you would like to discuss it; we can move forward. If you are just a keyboard warrior looking for an argument then consider this conversation over.
@@charlie10tango39 Even if you believe the Bible, Jesus in now quantifiable way "took over the world." Taking over the world means you have control of everyone. Since at most 25% of people alive today are Christian (which assumes that all self-proclaimed Christians are Christian, which most Christians don't) then how did Jesus take over the world?
If someone takes something over, then they have total control over how it runs. Is the world in which we live exactly how Jesus wants it? I sincerely hope not.
We can approach this from whatever angle you want: historically, religiously, philosophically. If it's not a matter of math then how do you quantify it?

I love this channel. Started following for guns but got so much more
I've worked as a sales trainer for 35 years. The beauty of this channel, the guns. that part's nice but inner reflection on developing one's self. Nothing could be finer. An investment in Yourself is the BEST investment YOU can make. No one can ever take that away from You.
Here! Here!
How refreshing it is to see a man that’s not a preacher but loves Jesus. The world is in desperate need of men that love Jesus. Being prepared to do our part as protector of the family God gave us, is love. Not being prepared is a product of love for the world. When my eyes were on drugs I didn’t even know I wasn’t prepared. When God pulled my head from my ass I saw pretty quick that the world is decaying and that I better be ready to face what’s coming.
Late to the game but, thanks for the advice. My first three habits I want to work on...1. Faith (Prayer and Word) 2. Fitness (Adding dedicated movement) 3. Self Defense (Dry Fire).
I love the 2 minute epic walk build up to be “ruined” by the dad joke style “we thought this would be a cooler intro” 😂 keep up the good work.
? That totally made it
I wasn't sure what to think of these videos, this is my first one. Then at 1:00-1:20 -- you sold me. If you can profess faith in the true and living Christ so bravely and with courage, I see a true warrior. I'm in (subscribed)

@@TheGunguy461 what year is it?
@@carlosperezdelema For most of the world, it's currently 2020, in 3 days it will be Thursday, in 8 months it will be January.
@@TheGunguy461 it is 2020 AD. Jesus, whether you believe or don't, has marked a before and after in the history of mankind. And it doesn't matter where you're from, you still count the years in relation to His birth.
I'd say his argument is more than valid.
@@carlosperezdelema There are several countries that don't use the Gregorian calendar. Thursday is named after Thor, god of thunder, and January is named after the Roman goddess of beginnings and endings. Does that mean those are real too?
When Wendy's is calling your name but John says discipline
Just eat the burger meat. You don’t need anything else anyways
If you're gonna go for a burger, go for a quality craft burger. Ultimately better for you, and is worthy of a cheat meal, while not being 100% garbage for you.
@@valiant545 I convinced my coworkers to head to the market and get some 80/20 beef, cook up some burgers in the kitchen the other night. Alternatively, they could have gone to McDonald's and eaten a bunch of crap. Instead, we chowed down on some excellent home cooked burgers with all the fixings.
It wasn't as healthy as a nice fresh salad with some baked chicken breast and homemade vinaigrette, but it was good eats and a damned sight better than any fast food joint.
@@0num4 Absolutely! I don't closely monitor what I eat. I just aim for healthier options and more protein when I can. I eat chicken a LOT but if I have a burger or some good pasta now and then who cares?
@@0num4 not to mention it was probably more fun overall
I'm really going to focus on reading and praying every single day! Making it a habit
Discipline comes from the word disciple. A disciple is one who always learns and strives to be like his teacher. Good enough is never good enough. Its counting the cost and moving forward
If I were as disciplined as Johns Beard, I'd darn near rule the world.
Regarding a soda alternative, check out an Italian carbonated beverage "San Pellegrino" (with pomegranate and orange). Amazing. Very light, and tastes great too. For bonus points, you can also use it as a mixer, but hey... that's not the scope of what we're talking about here. You can buy it on Amazon. Love the stuff.

Thanks for stopping and sharing your experience in this. Making a bite-sized habit to lead into a more significant goal is what I needed to hear. My “I need to…” statement to myself and wife lately has been about reading more in general but specifically I also have had a goal to spend at least 15 minutes a day reading the Bible. I’ll start with 5 mins as in your perfect example. Thanks for the motivation!
The situation he mentioned about discipline at work and not at home is exactly what i am going through right now. It's also one of the reasons i am searching for role models. I have neglected my manhood for so long. I have avoided moments for fear and laziness due to a weak mind.
My family deserves more.
I am in the process of making massive changes and i pray that God allows me to prove myself.
Getting to CHURCH weekly with my family(as soon as they open again)and spending much more time in study of scripture is my goal.
You can do it man
