Indeed there’s a disconnection. Unfortunately none of the Orthodox I know and am related to are merciful and forgiving.
They go to church with their new haircuts and shiny shoes this Holy Week without understanding that the person standing next to them is in pain.
One can only rely on giving mercy/patience, pray it gets better 🙏 peace & blessings

The Lord tells us that Mary chose the good portion, NOT Martha. That there is One thing needful, and that is being with our Lord, keeping ourselves in His Presence. In this parable Martha symbolizes all the distractions that prevent us from Uniting in Christ, from sitting calmly with Our Lord, communicating with Him, Loving Him. THAT is the good portion. YES, we are also to imitate His Virtues and help the poor and evangelize, but St Isaac of Syria says don't be fooled by the devil who tries to put in our head that we need to be active and feed the poor, while we are with Christ. He says make no mistake, not even feeding thousands is more important than being with Christ!
Perhaps you are misunderstanding the word "active" as the Fathers interpret it. "Active" virtues means bodily toil/asceticism.

Excellent points, Father. Plus, Idolatry is ANYTHING we put before Christ. Is Christ in our Presence? That's our checking point. If He is not Present, chances are, the demons are... The Power of the name of Jesus said aloud keeps them away.

Thank you Despota for your love and concern for our souls. The truth you speak of us being in danger of losing our souls, is so scary that I pray everyday for the help from my guardian angel to help me to remember all my sins, so I can repent and confess them. Time really is running out !

The chanting in Orthodox churches is often chanted either too quickly or garbled. I often cannot understand what is being said. I agree with the Bishop that this can cause chanting without feeling.
Thank you for sharing the wisdom of the relationship of Mary and Martha in the understanding to raise up our hearts and minds to be in union with Christ. There are so many layers of understanding to God's word to help us awaken our soul to become like God through grace. I truly need more illumination to not be deceived by the evil one. To the title of this video, Yes I know what danger at present, and different people are in. Set warnings out ages ago, and the church and the whole ignored those warnings until it was too late. Now I live in a constant lament....had they just listened, had I just listened all the times I didn't and had we just listened. The importance of listening to warnings that are sent out, they are sent out for a reason, don't ignore the reason. While you have to deal with this now, I am and where we are in process of coming out of this danger. Dealing with it, we are ahead and dealing with what no other has yet, except God.

God has ears and it's always our own heart needs most attention.

We typically use the King James Bible for the New Testament, I would really recommend getting the Gospel and Epistle commentaries of St. Theophylact. They are essential for deepening your understanding of the Gospel.

The danger is always there. We need encouragement and love and joy to move forward and confidence in our brave teachers.
Have you listened to what he said? Have you been listening to the services? If you think the Metropolitan "blurrs," then you think the Holy Fathers do too. It's all the same language!
If you pay attention to the services of Great Lent, you may think that they "blur" too.

sends with the goal of scaring people into following them. Those that are part of the Orthodox congregation do not need to be reminded in this fashion and those that are searching will welcome our nurturing traditions...Thank you
We're sorry you didn't like the title. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Opinions are not necessarily factual, though. The title comes almost word for word, from the sermon.
The truth is: we ARE in danger and we should be fleeing with urgency, to true repentance.
(Repentance being changed behaviors and full forgiveness.)
Holy scripture says: repent ye, for the Kingdom of heaven is at hand. That is no small sentence.
What do you mean we don't have to be reminded of this!?! We should ideally have our death, and judgement on our minds at all times. This video has gotten 15k views in three days, many of whom have never been exposed to Orthodox Christianity before. Our Faith a faith of reality. We shouldn't preach watered down garbage because it might hurt someone's feelings. We are in danger. The demons attack us now, and will try to drag our souls to hell at our death. What brings us consultation is Christ, not nicey-nice messages on UA-cam.
