If someone is kicking your door in or running at you with a weapon, you don't have time to call someone to show up to protect you. Police aren't personal security or body guards. They give tickets, arrest people who have already committed crimes, and investigate past actions. Allowing yourself to think that police are supposed to protect you is the same thing as choosing to be a victim, and any cop would tell you this, it's not a secret.

Police stations should have a program where women volunteer to help with domestic violence calls and any calls involving children to help the woman or kids, while providing comfort and care. Even though the male cops are there to help, it is still very scary when a bunch of men are yelling and creating chaos. We should be able to take the woman out of the situation once it is clear to do so, keep her safe and comfort her. In any calls involving children we should be able to gather any children, take them away from the scene and take care of them while the other police officers handle the call. I would absolutely volunteer to do that. All I kept thinking the entire time was "she needs some water" "she needs a blanket" "she seems so terrified and alone" "she needs someone to help calm her down before she starts to try and answer questions" "she needs someone to be there with her"....

There is in my city in Canada. They're all volunteers that wear safety vests that say crisis team. They arrive on a scene such as this within 20 mins.
